Is it just me or are we really good at starting projects, but have difficulty finishing them?

HolyWorlds has many people with creative minds, minds that come up with ideas around the clock. Problem is, with so many ideas, and lack of time and sometimes leadership... I feel that it's like jumping on stepping stones, constantly moving all around. Then nothing gets done. :(

Everyone here on HW has their own interests (usually connected by writing ;) ) so sometimes they want a project they can enjoy which I completely understand. I also think (I'm guilty of this too D: ) that we tend to consider our projects as the important ones.

(Now keep in mind, this is me havering so it doesn't really mean anything...) I think it would be cool to develop a system like the one below. (I think this is similar to what a lot of people do now but just throwing this out there...)

  • Present the idea. Make a post, see how many people are interested.
  • If enough people are interested, start organizing. Perhaps the core/guts of HW should get better at coming behind projects, (only keeping a few projects on our plate at a time of course...) if not, then maybe it's time to consider whether the project should be on here?
  • Appoint a leader. Just because you had the idea doesn't mean you're the best person to lead. Some of us have a gift in leading, others have a gift in creative minds that can help make the project come to life.
  • Work on project. If the above was done correctly, enough people should be interested to keep the project alive. Get it done then move on to the next.

The main reason I'm bringing this up, is because I was browsing through some old projects, (for example the fantasy music project) and the biggest issue seemed to be support because nobody had the time, and nobody knew about it (or maybe didn't want) to help out. I'd be interested in hearing some feedback on this plan, I think in general though, we've sort of moved away from projects as a whole because rarely (to my knowledge) do they get finished which I at least, find sad.

:book: um.... *raises hand*
I think that this is a good idea, but may I make a suggestion? How about a few projects are brought to the table. We can't do everything all at once that's stressful and takes the fun out of it. How about a select few is voted on and given a certain amount of time to work on it. Then move on to the next project. In that you set so much time to hear other HW opinions ...then after that close the discussion ...vote .... and go from there.

Just a thought. :D

Thank you for bringing this up, Rio. I understand the frustration, however at the moment due to how quiet we are, we have decided to leave off on projects for now. There really aren't enough people to be involved with them, without taking them away from what little time they can give to writing or etc. We have left some open, so people can look in there if they want to, and have a bash at whatever's in there up to now or etc. However at present, we don't have any official projects that are ongoing.

If we ever get to a place where we are busy enough to start projects up again, though, this is definitely a good system to follow! :)

Certain things like the Fantasy Music Project where hard as well because not everyone played an instrument that they could be involved, and very few had decent recording equipment. It was a fun idea, and those with the time and resources were very eager to give everything to it, but it simply wasn't attainable at the time. Hopefully something like it will be again.

Then again, The Sword and Pen, Heralds of Courage, and numerous contests went over very well. It's really a matter of having the time and skills to commit to things, and having the topic be something with which everyone can be involved. That can be a bit harder just now.

First, we have to get to know our new frequent members. :D

This looks like a good plan - it's obvious you thought through it well. :) Though yeah, as Elanor said, activity around here has been quieter lately.

*Agrees with Rin* :)

Ah, eventually it'd be fun to perhaps try and put together another anthology. I know it was a lot of work, especially for those heavily involved, but it was a nice project.
