Hi Everyone! I am Lady Nicole. Quite new to this website and forums, but delighted to be here! I have always loved to read - I think most writers have that much in common. I took interest in writing when I was ten and had big dreams of writing books. Making pictures and ‘movies’ with words was thrilling to me! I started a few stories that I thought were wonderful… but I bit off more then I could chew, thus I never finished. Later, when I read those stories, I saw them as childish and deleted them. But I still had a yearning to write the stories that I designed in my imagination. A few years ago, I went on vacation to Tennessee and spent a lot of time hiking. I came up with a few pictures in my mind and built a story around them. I decided that when I got home I would try writing it down, just for fun. I had a few friends read it for me. They loved it and encouraged me to write more. So now I am working on a third story (after maybe 100 failed attempts), my first fantasy this time. I have gotten a lot of help and inspiration from my editor, Karthmin, and the writing group he started. I learned about Kingdom Pen, and when exploring their website, I found Holy Worlds. I was fascinated with the website and got a lot of inspiration here! I didn't join at that time for a lot of reasons… one being that I am shy and normally only join on places where I have people I know already. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and becoming familiar different writings. Thank you for all the welcomes I have received! I know this is going to be a lot of fun! So much to read, and so much to learn! My… uhh… disclaimer: I am not the best speller by far (my grammar isn't smooth either), and the fact that I am normally typing with my tablet doesn't make things any easier. I do my best to be understandable, and if you correct me I will try to learn from my mistake. Thank you for your long-suffering with me. Many blessings! |

Welcome Lady Nicole "Sarah" Harper! Sorry we didn't find your introduction post sooner! The forum recently went through a reorganization that created this "Citadel" world out here, and some of us are still learning to use it! We mostly gather over on what is technically called the "Fantasy" Side, but all of our genres meet over there now (confusing, yes, likely to change soon, who knows?). Well if you really have 100 failed attempts than you are a few failed attempts ahead of me! I have written two novels, but never finished either of them. The first I started when I was 12, and it was a little over 100,000 words long, but it was mostly terrible stuff. I never got around to re-writing that. I am also currently at work on the sequel to this book. I wrote that whole book once, and have now re-written it entirely once, and still have more revising work to go! (No, RR fans, this is not your opportunity to try to get me to go faster...). So I have some experience with failed attempts. Glad you overcame shyness to join us! And don't worry too much about spelling and grammar; we have a dedicated team of people who clean up small mistakes, so as long as you aren't too egregious (your intro post looked great!) you'll be fine. Hope to see you around! |

Thanks for the welcome, Reiyen! I searched around for interdictions and found it over there. Most writers have many, many failure stories before they write a wonderful one that gets published. So we aren't unusual. So you are writing a second book as an addition to someone else's story? That's neat! So you are a "Captain" here? What do you do? Just wondering. Is there a way to reply to individual comments on the thread, or do you just reply to the whole thread? |

Neat! It's nice to get to know other new users! We have at least one thing in common right off the bat! I enjoy drawing a lot! I write stories mostly for my friend's and siblings. I would probably say that the age rang I'm aiming for is around 15-19... but that's just for now. How about you? I really enjoy reading Si-Fi books, and have some interest in writing something in that category sometime, but my difficulty is that I really don't know what I'm doing when ever I try. Research is a wonderful key to writing! It can really help make the story more real. Thanks for sharing those tips! Thank you so much for the welcome! |

Hi Nicole! Welcome to Holy Worlds! ) and I always found everyone really friendly, so settled in pretty fast! I wrote a looong story (over 70 chapters haha) when I was a lot younger. All on paper, and I have kept it due to nostalgia I suppose. I'd never in a million years let anyone else read it though. Nicole Harper wrote: Just wondering. Is there a way to reply to individual comments on the thread, or do you just reply to the whole thread? If you highlight the section you want to reply to and press Quote, you can just reply to that sentence/section. If you want to respond to an entire reply, you can just press quote. |

Nicole Harper wrote: So you are a "Captain" here? What do you do? Just wondering. Is there a way to reply to individual comments on the thread, or do you just reply to the whole thread? Well, as a Captain, my job is mostly to keep watch over the forums, and whenever we think about adding new stuff or getting rid of old stuff, it is Captains and Administrators who make that kind of decision. In particular, my job as Captain has usually been keeping track of our Rules document and being knowledgeable about Holy Worlds history, the Archives, and what kind of decisions we made in the past and how we made them. Basically.... I am the forum bureaucrat And as I think you have had explained to you by Elanor, you can select text in someone's post and click the "Quote" button, and that will make you be responding to just that part of their message (as I did in this one). But all posts are always put at the end of a thread... unlike Reddit and other formats. Also, you will find that while you write a post you can review the thread in the review box down below, and if you want you can select text there and quote as well, as I recall, or otherwise use the Quote button that is up by the bold and italic text options and such. We have an Art Gallery around here somewhere for people to display their art! Don't ask me how it works, though... never used it much myself, and no one wants to see my drawings |

My age range is basically depending on how my stories turn out, but I'm gonna say older like yours. I love medieval (not so much the lore) but knights castles horses villages etc.... and Dragons! Many people create dragons to be evil, but I hope to give them new light that not all dragons are evil, some help you in your quests. I really love Narnia, and such. Ummm I've been writing for a long long time. The birth of this novel started about 3-4ish years ago ....I worked on it off and on and really kicked it into gear last winter. Now finished with the rough draft, its being edited and drawing a few illustrations and such and designing a book cover for it. Now im praying for the Lord to provide a way for it to be published. Thank you so much for the welcome! |

Lady Elanor! It's great to meet you here! I know I will enjoy the Holy Worlds forums a lot! Question: In some ways you all seem very comfortable with each other and open, yet seeing that most everyone here seems to go by a pen name here I wonder how well you all are familiar with each other's real lives? I mean, how open are you about your real life here? (For instance, how many siblings do you have, what state you live in... things like that.) |

I've met a few HWers face to face, and have exchanged letters/packages, email addresses, phone numbers, and Facebook names with many friends I've made here. Some of us semi regularly skype together as well. (I tend to head Skype calls up, so if you think you'd ever like to join one, just PM me.) I've been around since early 2011 - the attachment to this place - these wonderful people - is deep. Some of my dearest friends are from here. I'm not as active on the forum as I used to be, but I'm still very close to a lot of people from here through FB, G+ and such. We're a friendly bunch, and love welcoming new people... So in a long rambly way, answering your question - Yes, most of us are very familiar. Ask away. Have fun. Make friends. We want to know about the real you too. I hope you enjoy your time here, and find joy in our little community. ~ZA |

I'll have to find it! Which way do I go? This place is very much like a large house or library, so big you can get lost in it! Being a Captain is fun, I suppose. I have had the yellow for long enough that it doesn't feel super special, but it comes in handy very frequently. I didn't always, but I get online pretty much daily these days since some bureaucrat type jobs just turned up and I have work to do again behind the scenes (in the depths of the secret places, far beyond the sight of mortals... or just in another room...). [Edit: I found the Art Gallery. It's over here: http://holyworlds.org/artwork/gallery/view.php?id=6. Don't ask me how to use it... but if you do need help do feel free to ask me to find someone to help you Oh, and in answer to the question you asked Elanor about how open we are about regular lives and pennames and such... It is true many of us here go by pen names. Reiyen is a principal character in the first big fantasy story I wrote. Elanor is not Lady Elanor's IRL name. The way it worked out for me was that some people around here I worked with a lot or hung out with a lot in the chat room I "got to know" by their fake names. Eventually, it just happened that we found each other on Facebook, or needed another way to communicate, or whatnot. Some people guard their identities quite closely (I used to keep my real name fairly secret, but it's not hard to find these days). Some do for a while and then when they adjust to being around they give their real names. Some go by real names. So basically that's a long way of saying the culture here doesn't push people in any direction of being real all the time or having an alternate name and keeping your IRL identity secret. When I joined Sci-Fi it was weeks before I told them I was Reiyen from Fantasy. They even thought I was a girl for a while over there, for a while. So handle your IRL identity as you choose. There is an official history that I and a few helpers (I do them injustice by forgetting their names) wrote up, but nothing has been added to it for probably a year or more, so it is more like a snippet of Holy Worlds history. That document I could go and dig up, but I am too lazy so I will just give you a brief accounting of it as I know it. But before I do, let me just remind you that time works in a funny way on the internet, as you may know, depending on how many other communities you are involved in. Holy Worlds is unlike social networks in that it isn't (usually) grounded with your real life in any way, so time passes here sometimes very slowly (a normal conversation that could be had in seven minute IRL might take a week here) and sometimes very fast (you get online some day and, lo and behold, the chatroom has been redesigned, or we have an Art Gallery, or whatever). So history is funky here. But enough of my nerdy archivist coming out... The forum started sometime in 2009 (I have forgotten the date, I believe it to be in September, but that does not stop us from celebrating its birthday in other months...), founded as the personal project of one Sir Emeth Mimetes. Originally a small enclave for his group of worldbuilding friends, Sir Emeth and his notable friends did deep worldbuilding and theory discussing for some time, including his unique invention of "Essence Mapping," a technique fully understood by few, which you can still find being discussed in some room around here I am sure. The forum population then shifted as it became well-known on the Rebelution (Do Hard Things of the younger Harris brothers) forums, and a bunch of energetic writers appeared. I arrived in November of 2010 (a time otherwise insignificant except for the fact that I am telling this story and so I get to make myself a character in it). Now from there I don't recall dates well, because of that funny way time passes on the internet once you're a part of it. By time I got around, we already had a Science-Fiction sister forum, which had a small population of dedicated writers of its own, many of whom were also here on Fantasy. As that rush of people who arrived in 2010-2011 "came of age" on the forums and had found their way into leadership positions (time and quality posting does that to people) the ambition of the organization redoubled. We added a Historical Fiction sister forum, which had its own, smaller, set of users. We restarted (again) the Community Story. We had 3 chatrooms (one for each forum, of course). We had a Newsletter (I wrote the Trivia section, go figure). We had an Art Gallery, and a monthly art contest for photomanipulators. Holy Worlds grew very fast in the sense that it started doing a lot more things. Then all went quiet for a variety of reasons. The simplest of these reasons is that many of those ambitious (Do Hard Things) leaders got older and had more IRL responsibilities, that kept them from working as much on Holy Worlds, and so projects were neglected. Another is that many of them had grown out of writing some time before, and so there wasn't as much story or worldbuilding discussion going on. And it is the nature of forums to have bursts of popularity followed by quiet. And our supreme leader, Sir Emeth, became unable to continue running the place because of reasons (a long story I would rather not share here; if you go archive diving like I do, it won't be hard to dig up). We attempted to unify all three forums so that you could have on login name for all of them (as we do now) but that didn't go over as simply as planned. As activity waned, we moved all content here onto the "Fantasy" site (as you can see in the web address) so that it would be simpler, leaving three shells of forums elsewhere, to which we could return if we choose to do so later. To be honest even I disappeared from here for sometime, and the long quiet began (or so it seemed to me, since i wasn't around). And now I have come back to Holy Worlds in its hour of need: Reiyen, Super Bureaucrat, Historian, and Archivist Extraordinaire! (Basically, I like to make a big deal out of anything I do) (Oh, and if you are looking for a most amusing story, just search for the thread Green Bar? and read it. Much of it may no longer make sense... but I still laugh inside when I think about it. Then you will know just a slice of what life was like here years ago). |

My story is about an elf girl who is trying to figure out who and what she is. It is the first fantasy I am attempting to write, and I have really enjoyed creating the story and characters. The only problem is the actual righting of the story. I have so much trouble typing long documents on my tablet. Several people have requested to see my drawings and I don't mind putting them on the Art Gallery... but I'm wondering what 'category' I should put my drawings in? Can someone please give me some instruction? |

Yeah, sometimes I do... people say that getting inspiration from other people's stuff is really good, and if you don't read and watch and listen to other stuff, you can get a bit dry, in creativity. It's really true. Reading books is like eating, to me. But sometimes, I feel like I read a story at the wrong time, and it messes up the way my own story is supposed to be.... |
