Post subject:  Re: Hello there !

Wow what a warm welcome :D !! Now I realize I did not really introduce myself...First and foremost, as I am French, my English may be sometimes quite weird...so don't worry about that lol !! I've been writing for six/seven years now (I was twelve at the time) but never managed to complete anything, except short stories -but I have always wanted to write novels....now for the first time I am working very seriously on a fantasy novel, and I intend to make something of it !!
I have many favourite authors, mostly English, who keep inspiring me : William Blake, Victor Hugo, Chateaubriand, John Milton - Milton changed my life at the age of thirteen -, Charles Dickens, C.S Lewis (for his apologetic work, not for Narnia) Robin Hobbs, J.K Rowling. I have been very disappointed by modern fantasy -except for a couple of books -since Tolkien is the ultimate fantasy master for me, and I found most of the fantasy books that followed him were kinds of copies, and repetitive (scheme, universe, creatures and characters…). As I am very difficult with fantasy books, I’ve read very few of them, so my culture in this area is somehow limited…so I you wish to advise me any book, I'm open ! :book:
Finally, I love reading, drawing, writing, dancing and walking in the countryside or along the shores ! ^_^

I hope you're able to! It took me a long time to work up to writing novels, but I kept trying, and eventually I pulled it off. Now I've written eight books.

I've been thinking lately that I need to read more Dickens. What are your favorite books by him?

Walking out in nature is great! What do you like to draw?

You is? You are? 0.0 You're french? That's awesome! I'm actually learning French, and one of my portal fantasies is set in France. ^_^ So... bonjour! ^_^ And welcome! (I haven't learned 'welcome' yet. :P)

So have I, actually, even books that are said to be well-done – and often are well done. They just don't seem to have a good spark to them, and good individuality. :/ Like you said, they seem to have a bit of a problem with being repetitive.

There is one, though, that I greatly enjoyed, and it might interest you. 'Angel Fall' by Coleman Luck. I can't think of any others just now. But you might find some good recommendations in the 'Watchtower' section of the forums too. :D

Robert Louis Stevenson for one took quite a long time before he ever managed to finish a novel, so neither of you are alone in that. :D

What sort of dancing do you do?

Mostly characters of my universe but I love to copy faces of statues, often from churches (with charcoal), and I do watercolour when I have the time. ^_^ I am only an amateur.

My author name is also Jonathan Garner. I most frequently write thrillers, often for young adults, though I also have a lot of fantasy ideas. None of them are published yet, but after I finish the long task of editing some of them, I hope to change that. :D

I keep finding myself leaning toward reading Great Expectations next. :)

Ah!... * grins * I shall have to say it all day and memorize it. I should know that one.

I think it's beautiful, too. It's challenging, especially to pronounce, at this point, but I love the cadence and the way the sounds go together. ^_^ I'm teaching myself, and I'm not making fast progress, but I'm getting farther. And I live in Europe, so French will be useful to me, here, I believe.

Moi aussi, j'adore Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, et J.R.R. Tolkien! Quel est votre favori livre de Charles Dickens?

(I'm still learning, so please correct me if I'm wrong! :) )

Thank you everybody !! :D Idril ton français est compréhensible, les quelques erreurs que tu as faites sont facilement remédiables ! N'oublie pas : "à" + "les" = "aux" ;) et "langue" est un mot féminin ! I believe Great Expectations is my favourite book by Dickens but as I said to Jonathan I also love Tale of Two Cities.
I don't believe I will ever publish in any way my drawings (they are not Worth it), but they only allow me to visualize my story, which is very important for me : it helps me to write ;)

That's how I tend to feel about my drawings, also. (Though I have uploaded a few, such as this one: http://holyworlds.org/artwork/gallery/a ... h%22%3B%7D )

Welcome, Sarai! :D You're French? That is so cool. ^_^ French is such a pretty language - probably the other language I would learn if not for Spanish. * nods * :)

Hello Dairy Maid, thank you for welcoming me -even though french is far FAR more beautiful than Spanish :P I am Learning Spanish too, but I've always wanted to study German instead...yeah

Idril, you MUST read Great Expectations, that's the first Dickens I read and the best !!

Nice drawings Jonathan, this is how most of my drawings look like -unfinished (for uncoloured) and rather sketched, just to help me to fix what I want in my head, and to grasp my characters and my universe. What is this gallery of the forum about, by the way ?

Thanks! The art gallery used to be where forum members could upload art, but right now it has fallen into disrepair due to us not having enough manpower to keep up with its maintenance.
