Remember SpecFicThing? Oh good. Well, we're doing it again, only in true Katie-Jaynin style we're doing it differently and thus, even more awesomely. Details as follow:

I am launching (in collaboration with Joel Parisi and some other, undetermined folks) a collaborative blog by the name of “Vaguely Circular.” To get this blog off to a kicking start I am hosting a blog marathon event. For those of you who remember, this is basically SpecFicThing 2.0.

This year the title of the marathon is “Imagine This” with the topic being, you guess it, imagination and creativity as it applies to the writing of speculative fiction and the general topic of being a writer, thinker, and creator. I'd like to bring in some other aspects of creativity along the way such as much, and possibly filmmaking. I want to focus on ideas—what they are, where you get them, etc. I also want to talk about notable examples of creativity—really remarkable books, movies, etc that think outside the box, defy the norm, and so forth.

The even will take place in July 2014. There will be (at least) one post every day so that means I need quite a few guest posts. If you're an author and want to talk about your process and ideas, that's an admissible topic. If you're a critic and want to write a review or breakdown of some form of fiction or writing process, that's an admissible topic. If you have a really zany idea that you think fits the topic category, it probably does.

We are also looking for at least two more regular contributors to VC once it launches, as well as the occasional guest post. If you're interested—consider this your application process. Be sure to state your intent when you send me your submission (Or submission topic) and we'll be in touch in August.

If you just want to throw out topic suggestions you'd love to see written about, or if you want to recommend people for me to go recruit that is also welcome. Any kind of feedback, commentary or general encouragement is awesome. I'm also hoping to host a few interviews, so throw out names and titles and I'll look into them.

There's a post I made on my blog back in January 2012 about fan fiction that I could adapt for this (or the HW blog). It's about 750 words at the moment (I think it could be expanded, though I don't immediately see how).

If you do I'd love to take a look at it. Like you said, if it doesn't work for IT then I'm sure HW would like it. :)

I have been bouncing an idea for a blog post around in my head and I don't know if it would fit into what you are thinking for VC or not, so I thought I'd run it past you here quick. My idea is to write up some thoughts and methods on editing your manuscript before publishing it. As I said, I don't know if it would fit or not, but if it doesn't, I might just use it for my own blog or write it up for the HW blog (or both).
