Hello there!

Since I'm new here, I thought I would come over and introduce myself. My username is Lady in Waiting, but in the real world I'm known as Laura. This isn't my first encounter with Holy Worlds, as I heard about many years ago, over at the Rebelution forums. Nonetheless, I'm happy to be here and look forward to getting to know you all!

My journey to find this place is quite an interesting one. I joined the Rebelution forums only months before becoming ill, with two different things. One is CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and the other is POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). God moved mountains as I made friends at the Rebelution, and it's cool to see how He worked. Going from super active to not at all was a huge smack in the face for me. But God provided in many ways, and I know will continue to provide.

I had been writing several years before getting sick, but it wasn't for God's glory. It was all to satisfy my desires. Lord willing, with the rediscovery of this forum, I will be able to continue to make the shift from writing for myself and others, to writing to reveal God's love and grace. For the most part, I've stuck to real world writing, but I'm looking to expand into Fantasy, as it is incredibly intriguing to me!

Besides writing, I enjoy knitting and crocheting, spending time with Family, and rediscovering God's love for me and everyone around me!

That's all for now!

In Christ,
Lady in Waiting

Hello, and welcome to Holy Worlds, Laura!

What first made you interested in writing Fantasy? :)

I'm looking forward to seeing you around!

Is it totally weird that I could picture you skipping in and throwing glitter? I HOPE NOT! Thanks for the warm welcome, ZA!

Hmm...to be honest, I'm not really sure. There is just something about sitting down to a piece of paper, and filling it with a whole new world. I'd like to think I enjoy creating because our Heavenly Father is quite the Creator! Writing real life stuff just seems too...restrictive (to me anyway; it might be thrilling for someone else). Fantasy brings a whole new dimension to writing. I mean, if I go outside right now, there won't be any dragons to befriend and I most certainly won't be able to fly, so...

But in my bits of writing, if I want someone to be able to fly, they can! And that's just awesome. :)

I like C.S. Lewis a lot, particularly for his book Mere Christianity. Though I've never read it through, what I have read is great! I've had some issues though, with bits of the Chronicles of Narnia, that I really need to seek God out for. In all honesty, I'm a newb when it comes to Fantasy. I've never read Lord of the Rings *don't shoot!* though I think I'd like to. What are some good Fantasy authors, that you would recommend?

I've read bits and pieces of that one as well

Oh :/ if you ever need to talk about something, I'm here. I not super mature or anything, but if you just wanted to talk to someone...

What?! ;) Actually, I haven't either
Recommend? Hmm, I'd say Bryan Davis, Andrew Peterson, ND Wilson, JM Christian (although he only has one book out so far), Susan Cooper, Frank Peretti and Trista Vaporblade (another one book only)... I could list a bunch more, but that would be a bit too much

The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan and The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald are two great fantasy books. :)

* nods * That's good. I've been working through that sort of thing myself just now. It's very important to know why you're writing.... :P

* coughs * Perhaps this might seem an odd question, but I ask it of every writer named Laura I meet, so.... have you ever heard of something called The Writing Endeavor? * hopeful *

Nope! You'll find we are crazies here at times though its all in good fun and we can certainly be serious when needed

love love love Mere Christianity. Its brilliance is in it simplicity in explaining profound truths I think.

We do have a theology thread I believe. More than welcome to post there. Might get some answers that way

Thank you, I appreciate the offer! I've never really talked with anyone in too much detail about the issues I have with the Chronicles of Narnia. But I may just take you up on that offer!

It's seems that I'm not the only one then, whose never read LOTR! Good to know I'm in good company. And thank you so much for the list of authors! I had no idea there were so many! I'll definitely have to check those out.

Yeah, I've been reading fantasy for years, so I picked up a few good authors along the way. I'm always glad when I get to tell other people about them :D

Oh well.... :P See, once upon a time when I was young (not nearly so ancient as I am now * coughs *) I didn't write very much. I wanted to, but I never really did. But a writer named Laura started a challenge called The Writing Endeavor, which lasted for a year and gave genre and WC goals for every month of the year, and little goals too sometimes, for some of the weeks, and such like. Anyway, I did it, and that was basically the main reason why I am actually a writer now. It got me going. I don't know anything about Laura other than her first name, but I've wanted to thank her for starting The Writing Endeavor for a long time, so every time I meet a writer named Laura I try and find out if she was the one that did it. It is my quest. :D
