Post subject:  Greetings!

Hello my brothers and sisters in Christ. I cannot express how excited I am at this place. I found it yesterday and was able to do some reading--wow! This place is like a dream come true.

I am not a published writer. In fact, I've never gotten very far with any stories at all. I've had a strong desire to write for more or less the last 11 years. High school, college, grad school...all that has been eating up my time and I think half my problem is that. I never have had the time to dedicate all it takes to really get a good piece of writing going. I am looking at the light of the end of my formal education tunnel now, and sincerely hope to have the time I have been lacking thus far. I am hoping to create a set of stories with a mix of human, animal and mythical races.

A bit about me. Firstly, you can call me Todd. You've probably already guessed by now that I love foxes. God has used them in a rather unique way to really make my faith my own as I moved from childhood to adulthood. Similarly, C.S. Lewis's Narnia has been a huge influence for me as well. Among other things, I met my wife on Narniaweb.com, a forum dedicated to all things Narnia. We've been married a bit over 2 years now and have a little boy, just about 10.5 months old. Part of my desire to write is to create some wholesome reading material for him.

I am a meteorologist by trade. I've had an obsession with weather my entire life. I am working on building a business where I provide weather forecasts for local companies which, God willing, are more accurate and more useful than what they can get online or on the TV. So far, I've had a couple clients, so things are looking up. I also work part time as the senior clerk at my (very) small town's library. I love being among the books and interacting with the patrons. I worked there as a shelver in high school and am glad to have been able to come back after college.

I am really looking forward to getting to know you. Thank you to those who have no doubt put in countless hours to make this amazing place!

Peace in Christ!
~Todd

Welcome to Holy Worlds, Todd! :D Tis good to meet you! *Extends hand*

Out of curiosity, what do foxes have to do with faith? :)

Meteorology! That is quite fascinating. What specifically do you do as a meteorologist?

I love Narnia too. :D When I was younger I used to read those books over and over. Which one is your favorite?

Post subject:  Re: Greetings!

Nice to meet you too, Calista Beth Mimetes.

How do foxes fit in? Now that is a loaded question...one I will have to get into more some other time. I just tried to write a brief description, but utterly failed. A large part of that is probably still because its still a bit of a mystery to me, but my lifelong draw towards foxes was directly responsible for me getting into the fantasy genre, which led to Narnia, which led to making some great Christian friends when I needed some great Christian friends...and of course, my wife :)

I focus my meteorology mostly on short term forecasting in the 1 hour to 3 day time span. I do venture out to 7...even 10 days, but forecasts are extremely unreliable beyond that. I have a decent following on Facebook and a couple of webpages and hopefully will be getting some big clients soon to pay the bills!

Favorite Narnia book is by far The Horse and His Boy. I just love that one. Then again...I love them all... :dieshappy:

Pleasure to meet you, Todd. I think you're our first meteorologist here. That's cool. We'll have to think up some weird semi-scientifically possible phenomena some time. :D

Post subject:  Re: Greetings!

Thank you for the greeting, Lady Kitra. I'd love to create some fun, yet semi-scientific weather and phenomenon!

For that matter...if anyone needs any help with weather, patterns, climate, etc. for their world, feel free to give me a holler and I'd be more than happy to help out!

So what is the story about that you're brainstorming?

Foxes are fascinating creatures. (I like most animals.) What animal races are you planning on having in your fantasy world?

I hope that your writing and meteorological plans work out!

Post subject:  Re: Greetings!

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome. You might not realize it, but it does mean a lot :D I recently joined another forum. My introduction thread has 58 views, but no one has bothered to comment even a simple hello. So, thank you!

Well...about my story. It is still very early in my planning stages. I don't really have anything resembling a plot yet. I'm trying to create a world in my mind first and then see what kind of stories evolve from that. I am hoping to create a few different stories, possibly with each focusing on a different character and different race. I do know that my first story will be focused on a fox character that will probably have some parallels to myself. That is about as far as I have gotten, and I am honestly not really planning to get to a point where I am ready to write until after grad school is done (in December hopefully). Otherwise, I will write my stories and not my thesis :p

As for other races....besides foxes there will be humans, wolves, maybe a dragon or two. Gryphons will probably work their way in. Those are the ones that are more or less set in stone, but I am sure others will come in as well. What will probably end up happening is my stories will be a mash of Lord of the Rings, Narnia and the Redwall series, even though I only ever read 2 of those.

*Laughs* I can understand it being difficult to condense. ;) Isn't it amazing how God uses stuff like that to draw us to Him?

Me too! Bree he hinnybrinny hooheha is the best horse name ever. :D I also have a fondness for The Silver Chair... And it's all Puddleglum's fault. *Laughs* His pessimistic optimism (or is it optimistic pessimism?) is surprisingly endearing.

Welcome to Holy Worlds!

Wow! That sounds like a really cool job! I work for myself as well, and I know how tough it can be building up your own business. I hope it goes well for you, it's great to work with something you love doing. :)

I hope you can find inspiration and encouragement here, as you work on beginning to write your novel! :)

Sounds good. Redwall is what started my interest in anthropomorphic animal fiction.

Post subject:  Re: Greetings!

It is truly an honor to meet you all. :D Thank you for not only saying hi, but for taking such an interest in who I am. I've been on a lot of forums, and that isn't very common. It really shows the strong Christian love I can already see in this forum!

Calista Beth- It really is quite amazing what God uses to draw us closer to Him. Someday, I will have to type out the whole story....

I've attached two screen shots, one of each of my sites. One of the sites is for my hometown, so I ended up blurring out a fair amount of stuff. The other is my business site. I don't mind anyone knowing that I am in the Finger Lakes region of New York, so there is a lot less blur there ;)

Lady Elanor- What kind of business do you own? I'm not very deep into mine yet, but so far I love it. I am working on getting a big client...hopefully I will today....*prays*

AzlynRose- YUMMMMM!!! Thanks! :dieshappy:

BushMaid- Ahh! You got me already. My real name isn't Todd, but it is a offline nickname and the one I've used online for many years. Todd or Tod (as the fox in the Fox and the Hound is named) comes from the Old English word for fox. So, yes..it is all related!

Now...a question for everyone else. What is your favorite section of the forum? There is a lot to look at, so I am curious what people enjoy the most :)

Edit: Oh yes...and how do the avatar rules work? I've read over a few things on them, but am still a bit confused...

Welcome, Todd! A lot of us are great fans of C.S. Lewis here. Now that we know your favorite book, who is your favorite Narnia character (aside from Aslan--since daresay that might be a given for a lot of us :D )?

Being a meteorologist sounds like a cool thing to be. :)

My favourite parts of the forum are probably this room and Quests. I like quests because we have challenges for writing and such in there. :D

To upload an avatar, click "UCP" on the bar at the top of the screen. Then "Profile" and "Edit Avatar." Be sure to read the avatar rules before you upload one!

Avatar Rules wrote:
Members can either upload their own avatars or choose one from the public galleries. All avatars should glorify God. If something would be inappropriate to post on the forums, it is inappropriate to post graphically as an avatar.

No human or humanoid figures of any kind are allowed. That means no android robots, knights in armor, dwarves, etc. The only part of a human that you are permitted to include in an avatar is a human hand or a human eye.
Graphic violence, suggestive imagery, and foul language are not permitted.
Licensed images and logos are discouraged for copyright reasons. Avatars that promote another website are not permitted, except by the express permission of the Council.
Animated images ("GIFs") are not permitted. Only .jpg and .png files are allowed.
Avatars should promote the essence and overall appearance of the site. Avatars should not be distracting. We discourage flat "clip art" style images for this reason. The forum team reserves the right to remove an avatar for any reason.

Heh another question to bring out another piece of my story. ;) Now, at risk of a mob, since this a site for books, my favorite character outside of Aslan (because you were right, He is tops ;) ) is the movie version of Mr. Fox (though the book version isn't bad either!).

Now...I actually discovered Narnia because of the movies. I read a couple of the books a week or two before I managed to get the movie. I loved the increased role of Mr. Fox...and some of his lines are great. Anyways, about a year later as I was re-watching the movie, one of his lines stuck out to me in that way God makes things jump at you when He wants to tell you something. He says "Aslan Himself has sent me to gather more troops." That became a mission calling for me ever since. Being a 'Fox for God' means, among other things, "Gathering the troops".

Thank you very much! I did make it all myself, yes. I've been slowly learning more and more web-coding over the 6.5 years I started the non-business site. I mostly use HTML, CSS, PHP and mySQL. I find there are so many resources online...but sometimes, it still stumps me. I'm trying to make a mobile version of my sites, but I'm a bit stuck right now.

Thanks, everyone, for the input on your favorite sections. I'll have to check them out!

Thanks, AzlynRose. I did upload an image, so perhaps it just hasn't been ruled on yet...

Hi! Apologies for not replying sooner, I have been away.

I run my own dog grooming business, and am a fully qualified dog groomer. I love it! :)

It's definitely very rewarding working for yourself, although it's really hard work as well. Did you get the client you were hoping for?
