Hi, my name is Morgan, and while I'm a new member here on Holy Worlds, I've been reading it for quite a while now. I've really benefited from the discussions here, and finally decided to stop procrastinating and join so I could be a part of it. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.

I'm seventeen years old, the oldest of three girls, and a homeschool student. I'm a writer, and I just published my first two books this year. I love mixing genres and time periods in my books, it's just so much fun. I'm midway through writing the rough draft of a fantasy story, and in the beginning stages of a sci-fi trilogy. I love to read, and own more than 350 books. I like to sew, especially historical costumes. I'm also involved in politics, and have been since I was eight. I also love to play the violin, particularly film score.

Well, that's a little bit about me, and I'm excited to be a part of Holy Worlds.

Well done on publishing two books! What are the titles of the books you have published, and what genre are they?


I used to read a lot of books, but have been through a phase where I haven't read much at all. So I'm trying to set time aside to reading more again. What books do you like to read?

Welcome Morgan! Mixed genres, cool! I should like to hear you play your violin. Do you have any favorite authors?

Thanks, Elanor! They are called Across the Stars and The Experiment, by Morgan Elizabeth Huneke. Now, my genre mixing makes it hard to pin just one on my books. Across the Stars has some science fiction elements in that children from our world find a spaceship which takes them to another planet, but the planet is anything but typical sci-fi. It is sort of fantasy, but not entirely medieval as the culture is somewhat like the 1850s or 60s in America with some medieval stuff thrown in. The Experiment again has some sci-fi, but also politics and stopping the creation of a "utopia" by the bad guys, and plenty of adventure, including a car chase involving a 15 passenger van.




C. S. Lewis is definitely a favorite of mine, being quite a Narnia fan. Another childhood favorite (which I still like) is Noel Streatfeild. L. M. Montgomery is another one, as is Elizabeth George Speare. Some other books are Johnny Tremain, A Wrinkle in Time, and The Door Within Trilogy. Within the last year, some authors who are on Holy Worlds have made it onto the list, namely Molly Evangeline and J. Grace Pennington. However, if I was to list all my favorite books, we would be here all day, and I probably still wouldn't be done.

What political activities are you involved in?

Welcome, Morgan! Your books sound intriguing. I shall have to look them up.

I second Jonathan's question. My dad has been in the state legislature since I was almost nine, and so you might say I've been rather involved in politics ever since.

When I was eight, a family friend ran for state house and we were heavily involved in the campaign. My dad was the chairman of our county's republican party for six years, and so we did lots of political events and campaigning through that. Now the family friend is running for congress, so I'm a volunteer for that campaign. My parents also have a political news website and that also helps keep us busy.



Books are some of my favorite topics for conversation, whether they are my own or someone else's.

There are actually two: http://www.bartowpolitics.com/ and http://www.georgiapolitics.org/ They work basically like a local Drudge Report, with headlines linking to stories on multiple other news sites. There's also information about local candidates and elected officials. We're trying to inform voters and keep elected officials accountable to their constituents.

You'll find plenty of homeschoolers on HW, Todd, who would probably be more than happy to share their experiences and opinions. I'm homeschooled myself.

(As am I. Homeschooling for the win!)

I really like being homeschooled, and would definitely recommend it, especially considering the direction the government is taking public school with Common Core. One of the best things about homeschooling is that the education can be tailored to the child. Schools don't really have that capability. Every child is different, and the child's parents know him or her better than a teacher can, and thus can adjust to the child's learning style and interests. And as AzlynRose said, I'm sure the other homeschoolers would be more than willing to share their thoughts as well.



Lots of kinds. I've made dresses from the colonial era, Regency, Civil War, the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, my most recent project being fantasy/medieval style dresses. I also like to study costumes in movies and try to figure out how they are made. I even made my sister a Jedi costume after studying Obi-Wan's clothes in Episode 2.

*raises hand* Homeschool grad here. I wouldn't teach my kids any other way.

Wow, that sounds so awesome! Do you look for patterns in the internet or just cut out the fabric and measure as you go along?

I have ordered some patterns on the internet, but others I got at Hobby Lobby and Hancock Fabrics. The patterns from the 30s, 40s, and 50s were sent to me by my great uncle when he found them, I think when he was helping my great grandparents move to an assisted living place. They belonged to someone in my family, I just can't remember what relation she was to me. The Jedi costume I just made up as I went along. With some skirts I do a lot of math to figure out what size to cut the pieces based on how much fabric I have.
