Post subject:  Hi everybody!

Hi! I'm Kessie Carroll, and I just learned about this place. Seems Realm Maker's attempts to unite all us Christian writers has resulted in some welcome cross-pollination. :-)

Anyway, I'm 31, married to my best friend and with three kids and a fourth on the way. I write YA urban fantasy, so far unpublished, but book 1 is out on submission and we'll see how that goes. It's not strictly Christian, per se, but it's definitely written from a Christian worldview. Aiming for the secular market and all.

My blog is netraptor.org/blog and book samples are up at spacetime.netraptor.org. :-)

Welcome to the forums, Kessie. :D

That's cool that you heard about us from there. Did you find out about us from one of HWs' representatives to Realm Makers? I know of at least three members who attended as students, and one (almost positive there were two) who attended as an author.

Cool blog. :D I love how Sonic the Hedgehog is a prominent part of your art. Someday, I may do something similar (in regards to story art, I can't draw to save my life) with The Legend of Zelda universe.

Welcome, Kessie! Glad to have you here.

You have a cool blog. Are the three little sweethearts in the latest post your kids? They're so cute! ^_^

Welcome to Holy Worlds! I'm glad to see that Realm Makers is helping bring Christian speculative writers together.

I like the idea of Christians seeking to break into the secular market, and I hope it goes well for you.

Post subject:  Re: Hi everybody!

It was either Becky Minor or Kirsten Kercher who mentioned this place. I didn't get to go to Realm Makers owing to budget and distance (I'm in Pheonix, AZ). Maybe one year it'll be closer?

My favorite secular author is probably Diana Wynne Jones of Howl's Moving Castle and others. I'm also fond of Mary Stewart and I'm winding up to go on an Elizabeth Goudge bender. I just read North! Or be Eaten, and I'd like to buy the whole series. I'm a big fan of Becky Minor's Windrider books. Lately the way I find books is to wander the library and grab titles that look interesting.

What do you guys write? Anybody published?

Hullo, Kessie. I recognize you. :) I hang out on the Anomaly forums quite a bit, though I rarely post. I hope you like it over here!

I have never read anything by her, but I read an excerpt of Howl's Moving Castle and I love the story idea. I want to get it sometime. What else has she written that you might recommend?

Most of us are Fantasy writers and hang out on this forum, but there are quite a few Historical fiction and sci-fi writers on the other two forums. And quite a few of us are published – I can't think exactly how many off the top of my head.... Over six, anyway. :)

I guess I should have clarified--any books published? I have two short stories published, but my goal is a book. Or a series.

Re: Mistress, Diana Wynne Jones reccomendations: The Lives of Christopher Chant, Archer's Goon (which is hilarious), Dogsbody, the Tough Guide to Fantasyland and its companion novel, the Dark Lord of Derkholm (you'll never look at high fantasy the same way again). Also Fire and Hemlock for some magical realism and Hexwood for a story told out of order, like a puzzle.

This thread is a bit outdated, but it lists most of our members' published works.

I mainly write thrillers, horror, fantasy, and science fiction.

Just some short stories and a poem so far, but I'm working on two YA thriller novels. What's the plot of your novel like?

Suia: Thanks for the link! I shall stalk everyone on Amazon. :-)

Jonathan: Here's the current back cover copy for Storm Chase:

Carda Chase’s life has just changed for the worst. By pure chance he’s the new Strider of Chronos, a mage with time and space powers. Demetrius, a shadow mage, and his apprentice, Rayne, a thieving mage with a Pledgestone, want his blood. The Chronostrider Council expect him dead in a week. A deadly Subspace Storm threatens Earth and all its inhabitants. And worse yet, Carda's parents have stopped his allowance. But Carda isn’t alone. He has friends – Xironi, a catgirl and space mage, Indal, a time mage turned werewolf, and Carda's sister Michelle, a rare gravity mage. Together the four friends must fight back a bitter Council, world-eating storms, metal giants, and a street racer with a thirst for Carda’s blood. Between the world jumping, time jumping, and lack of allowance, Carda must accept his new role as Chronostrider. And if he’s lucky, he and his friends might save the world.

And the current summary for Chronocrime, which is book 2:

Indal is a chronomancer living in Phoenix, Arizona. When his body is magically spliced with that of a werewolf, the authorities are forced to exile him a thousand years in the past. After living wild for six months, Indal is losing his humanity. But the Strider of Chronos, most powerful mage of their generation, needs his help. The mage’s own corpse has appeared, heralding his imminent doom, and only Indal can unravel the tangled timeline before it’s too late. To make matters worse, Indal discovers that his werewolf condition will lead to the death of his girlfriend. His love for her has helped him cling to sanity, but he must end the relationship to keep her safe… and it may cost him everything.

It's nice to have you join us here, Kessie. : ) Gosh, couples (godly ones especially) are so adorable. X3

How long have you been writing? Was it always a dream to publish your works?

I hope you're enjoying the forum so far. ^^
