I've really been getting into roguelikes lately, and I was wondering if the people here play them.

For those who don't know, roguelikes are computer games that are usually fantasy-themed, and usually feature permadeath (no loading old saves and no respawning), and simple graphics. They're really fun but also really niche.

I play a lot of the classics like NetHack, Ancient Domains of Mystery, and Dwarf Fortress. There are newer/more modern roguelikes, like Faster Than Light and Sword of the Stars: The Pit, and those are pretty fun too.

The biggest problem I have with roguelikes is that very few of them are particularly Christian-friendly, especially not the "classics". A lot of the classic roguelikes have altars and in-game gods you can pray to for stat bonuses. There are also a lot of darker themes which may be questionable.

So.. yeah. Does anyone here play roguelikes, and which ones are your favorites?

Huh, learn something new every day. :D I have not played, but I think I know what you are talking about because I may have witnessed other people playing Roguelikes, I think... Maybe. :D

I've never been a good enough player to play one.
I like them in theory though.

Never heard of the term myself, until now. :) I haven't played anything like that, and I probably never will because of some of the content.

Nethack, hands down.

If you haven't already, go play Brogue. The way the game uses textual graphics is beautiful.
