Ok gang here's the deal:
As some of you know, Holy Worlds has been trying to put together a Community Story for about a year now, with a lot of starts and stops along the way. Well, we're coming off the latest stop with a vision of developing the story, writing it, and e-publishing it by December. To do that we're picking up where we left off before, the Development Stage. The story premise and Plot synopsis have already been selected and we're building teams to work on background development. For those hearing this for the first time who know nothing about the HWCS, I suggest reading the most current synopsis to get up to speed. It's copied in a few different places, but the quickest to get to is in the Story One subforum of Tales of the Realm in The Village. But to summarize the larger premise of the story has to do with the idea that our world is one of three different worlds connected through portals. Ours is the Dwarf world, then there's the Elf world, and the Giant World. Each world will have its own team doing the background development, some of which has already been started. There's also a team working on the Characters/Plot/Writing aspects of things who'll help get things pulled together so that we're ready to start WRITING the story in June or so...
So here's how you can help...
First off, each team is headed by an admin who oversees all the development work in each area. This month our goal is to assemble teams to start working on that development. The Project Head (Neil of Erk) wants each team armed with a concept artist and a writer. I've given a pretty thorough description of the concept artist's job
here, but to summarize his/her task is to visually portray the key ideas of each world so that when it comes time to write the story, the authors have a better reference for descriptions. The Writer's task is mainly to polish all the random development discussions into a finalized form that the other teams and authors can understand and reference quickly for needed information. This will entail following the discussions of your team to keep track of how the idea is developed and then writing up all the decisions that were agreed upon during the discussion in an organized manner that can be used by others.
But besides these two very important roles, there is another group of workers that every team needs in order to accomplish their task: DEVELOPERS! Concept artists and Writers can't render the finished ideas without there being a core of dedicated peoples developing and finishing the ideas for them to present. Each Admin has the final decision over how many developers they feel need and what areas to assign them to. But I think it's a safe guess to say that each team needs at least three members willing to put forth the time and effort to develop their idea. The Elf and Giant worlds will mostly need developers who are skilled at and enjoy worldbuilding and creating complex new worlds. The Dwarf/Earth team will need (as far as I can tell) creative researchers who are willing to dig up real-life facts and examples and then creatively build off of them. The writing/characters/plot team will (unless I've missed my guess) need people who can work with crafting deep characters, and piece the elements of the story together so that it's ready for the next phase where a group of members will sit down and write it!
Like I said before, the main goal for this month is to gather the teams together so that we can hit the ground running next month. After February, we have until the end of June to get all the development squared away. July will be spent tying up any loose ends and bringing it all together so that we can move onto to the Next Phase. If you think this is something you'd like to help with, and if you have the time to commit to it, then contact the admin over the team you're most interested in working on and they'll tell you how you can help. The admins are:
Earth/Dwarf World - Airianna Valenshia
Elf World - Seer
Giant World - Eli McGowan
Characters/Plot/Writing - Lady Esmeralda
So what do ya say? Who wants to be a part of helping craft and e-publish the very first Holy Worlds Community Story?
