| Post subject: | Hello! Sincerely, The New Guy |
| Umm... I'm always a little awkward at first meetings, but give me some time and I'm sure we can be good friends. Just to introduce my self a little I'll tell you some of my interests. Obviously I like writing, or I wouldn't have signed up for this. I've tried doing forums like this before, but it didn't really work out for various reasons (school, the forum died out, etc.). I don't know how much time I'll be spending on here, but I hope to get involved in a few threads, and I am really looking forward to participating in the Role Play thread. I hold a lot in my head at any given time, and I have to let some of it out in one way or another. Most of the time I take up the persona of a certain character I have created and hash out on my keyboard something I'm thinking about either in their voice or situation. I don't do this with everything I write. Sometimes it is nice to just write something for the heck of it. I have recently taken a great interest in Tolkien's Middle Earth, and have spent many wonderful hours exploring the beauty of that world. I hope to one day finish creating an equally complex and beautiful fantasy world. Language and Linguistics is one of my hobbies, but I'm not that gifted in either one. I am working on an alphabet for a language I hope to one day complete. Right now it is called Benlasi, but I will most likely change the name as I develop it. I'm about 30,000 words into an novel that takes place in my world, and have countless ideas for others. Unfortunately I suffer from a lack of writing discipline, and my writing blocks can last months at a time. I will finish it someday. I am planing on entering the film industry in the near future, but right now I'm volunteering in Uganda, East Africa, for a year. It is really hard but also really good work. I hope that wasn't too long, and I hope to meet some of you soon. | |

| Welcome, Andorin! It's a pleasure meeting you. That's awesome that you are creating a new language! Does it have English characters for the alphabet, or are you creating a completely new set of characters? What kind of work do you do in Uganda? | |

It has an entirely new alphabet, and some sounds are non-English, and some English sounds are missing. The alphabet was originally based on Japanese characters, but now it doesn't really resemble Japanese. As I worked on it, certain letters started resembling different Arabic languages I've seen. However it is written from bottom to top, left to right. That is because of the architectural mindset of the people who use it. I wish I could figure out a way to put it on a computer. Like, so I could type with it. I'm supervising the education of some boys here (about 6 of them, sometimes 7). I just help them when they are having a hard time, and help them grade their work. I'm also sort of a mentor all day, everyday. It is hard work, but it is good work.

I guess they have a software program somewhere that will allow you to put the characters onto the computer and then assign a keystroke for them. I've read so many other things without ever looking at the author's name that I feel I should have several other 'favorites', but I just don't know their names. | Aratrea wrote: Greetings Andorin! Welcome to the forum! What's your book about? Wow...that is sort of a big question (as you probably know). Basically, it is about a young man who has lost his memory and discovers--through a series of adventures--that he is the key to unite a divided kingdom against a new evil which is spreading across the land. I'm sure a lot about the story will be posted on the Forum in the future. I have already placed a character from my world (Bankeria) in an ancient library if you would like to talk to him. You can find him here. I'm sure there will be many more Characters for everyone to meet when they have time. Also thanks for the Muffins and Confetti. Quite a great way to make someone welcome. Sort of hilarious to imagine it in real life.

| I like almost any kind of music. I actually really like bagpipe music and bluegrass, but that might be just because I'm missing my Appalachian home. When I'm writing I try to listen to music that has no words or are in a foreign language. But if I'm just chilling or driving, I can listen to almost anything. I just like a good variety, and I'm usually on the lookout for new stuff. I find myself drifting toward Enya and Yanni type stuff a lot. I actually don't remember how I found Holy Worlds. It sort of found me, as cheesy as it sounds. I was cleaning out an old email address and found some news letters from Holy Worlds. I was like, "Hello, what have we here?" and I was reunited with a Forum that I didn't remember ever finding. So I made a new user name, and poof, here I am. | |

LOL I know more authors than I do composers, but I'll rattle off the names of some of my favorites to people and they just stare. Movie soundtracks rock, especially for writing. Do you have favorites?

| Sure. But it is easier for me to name the composers than it is any of their particular movies. I like Hans Zimmer if I need anything really dramatic. John Williams is good if you are looking for anything familiar, Howard Shore has all of the beautiful music from LOTR plus some other good stuff, Koji Kondo did some cool stuff with Legend of Zelda, Clint Mansell has some beautifully tragic music especially from "The Fountain" and "Requiem for a Dream" which I have never seen, A. R. Rahman did some cool Indian stuff for "Slumdog Millionaire", the Beowulf soundtrack is good, very Norse (never seen the movie, loved the book too much), Takeharu Ishimoto is probably one of my all time favorites. That just names a few. There are also artists like Audio Machine, Two Steps from Hell, and E. S. Posthumus are good for some really epic music. Yo-Yo Ma did a cool album called Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone, redoes some classic western music. Oh, how I could go on... | |

| We used to have a bagpipe player living down the hill. When it was quiet in the evenings, you could hear them playing. *heaves sigh* Never did find out who that was. Andorin wrote: Sure. I love Hans Zimmer, though I usually tend toward rock songs with lyrics for my 'epic' listening. | |

Thanks for the welcome! If you would like to find more music you can always listen to Pandora. It is a music radio thing that recognizes patterns in your favorite songs and then tries to play similar songs. I found a lot of great stuff on there. Most of the time I then go save it in my Grooveshark library. However, Pandora doesn't work in all countries, so I have not used it in like two years. Grooveshark is still good, but my internet is too slow to load it. You can find my GS library here.
