It's nearly Christmas! Ok, well I suppose it's a while off yet; but this is the time when I love to start listening to Christmas carols, songs and hymns. So which are your favourite Christmas songs, and is there any particular reason why you especially like them? I mean, I'm sure we all have more than one favourite! |

"Not That Far", by Ryan Kelly. It makes me cry, yet, I still like it... Here's a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0AfdSgK9Mc |

That's a lovely song, Renna. I hadn't heard it before. One of the ones I really like, is This Little Child by Scott Wesley Brown. And I like Believe, by Josh Groban. |

Thank you for starting this thread, Elanor. An excellent idea! *rubs hands in eager anticipation* I'll try to keep the list short, since I have so many favorites. O Holy Night: It's such a soaring, magnificent song, and when sung well, it's nearly unbeatable. Silent Night: I mean, how can you not like it? Lo How A Rose E'er Blooming: Gorgeous, haunting, especially when it's sung in German. There's something about hearing songs in German that make them that much more touching. Infant Holy, Infant Lowly: Not the best words ever, but the melody and harmonization are to die for. I Heard the Bells on Chirstmas Day (by Casting Crowns): Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! For Unto Us a Child Is Born: I'm a sucker for Handel. What can I say? Hallelujah Chorus: Hands down my favorite. It's granduer and magnificence speak for themselves. Is there anything better? Okay, so that wasn't that short. But I could go on and on. |

I like this original Christmas song by this band: This band also does the coolest version of this classic that I've ever heard: |

*needs to get some Theocracy to listen to...* I like the 'Where's the Line to See Jesus' song, a lot 'You Gotta Get Up' by Rich Mullins is way up on the list--because it's Rich Mullins. 'How Many Kings', by Downhere, an awesome song by one of my favorite bands of all time Andrew Peterson's 'Behold the Lamb of God'--because it's an epic record and because it's AP. Audio A's version of 'Little Drummer Boy', and Jars of Clay version, I can never decide which I like better. 'What Child is This', is probably my favorite Christmas hymn 'Mary Did You Know' Mark Lowry--It's an old song and lot's of people are, I'm sure, tired of it, but it's still a great one and is best when it's him singing. 'Welcome to Our World- by Chris Rice should be higher on the list than it is. I can listen to that one over and over again. Toby Mac's 'This Christmas' Steven Curtis Chapman's new christmas record is in my playlist--especially his 'Christmas in Kentucky', that one's really sweet. Sanctus Real's version of 'Silent Night'--because it's a wonderful hymn and because Sanctus Real is my top favorite band. (I could go on, but I won't...) |

And I forgot a couple: Wexford Carol: Enchanting and gorgeous. The Christmas Canon: If you haven't heard this, you need to. It's a version of Pachabel's Canon in D performed by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, with vocals. Exquisite.

My favorite is O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, because it points to the reality of the Gospel and the reason we celebrate Christmas. And...it's so longing, eery, and... :') And passionate...at least, the way DC*B did it. |

Sir Inesdar Ternis wrote: I have two favorite Christmas songs: For the words: Emmanuel. The first stanza is absolutely beautiful. 'And ransom captive Israel' never fails to send shivers down my spine. For the tune: Carol of Bells. The tune is pure epicness. Agreed for both. My favorite is O Holy Night. Not much competes with it for me. I've heard it done deep and strong or mellow like a lullaby and it is always beautiful. I like singing Joy to the World because it's one of the few songs I know the harmony to and harmonies are special. O come o come Emmanuel is also nice for it's depth of voice. |

New one I just heard (Mandisa's version) 'Children Go Where I Send Thee' It's a bit repetetive and I'm not certain who all the people the song refers to are, but I still like it a lot. |

The two favorites that come to mind at once: I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day (by Longfellow, but I love Casting Crowns cover of it) It's just such a haunting, and yet hopeful song. I don't even know the original tune all that well, but I recite it as a poem a lot. XD How Many Kings, by Downhere. I love Downhere as a band, they're one of my favorites, and this song is so beautiful, especially the line "How many gods have fought out their hearts to romance a world that is torn all apart...only one did that for me." (and then there's this little-known band called Bunch of Believers, a Ska band with a wonderful Christmas album that's long been a family favorite. |
