This thread is the very late and delayed thread to country The League of Notebook Wielders. This is only for electronic note taking! So if you think that note taking in paper notebooks is the only way to go, enter the other thread. Basically, what word processor/electronic device/s do you find the most useful in note taking? Personally I LOVE my iPad and iPhone. They are very convenient, and you aren't constantly losing pens with them. Sometimes I've had a sudden burst of inspiration for a story, and because my iPad or iPhone is with me, I'm able to write them down conveniently. So notes is a very handy app. I also love Pages. I've used that in conjugation with the Dictation feature for French work and it proved itself very useful as well. On my computer, Word is definitely the word processor I use. I also find that typing on a computer for notes can be more convenient because writing on paper can take much longer as I am a very fast typist. What are your thoughts on note taking with electronic devices? |

I prefer Microsoft Word. I have Open Office now, but it likes to change my quotation makes to Chinese characters, so I'm installing Word again soon. There are some times that I just email myself ideas for later. I'm usually around my laptop so WPs are just more convenient especially when I have to check my various ideas against something or other on the web. |

I use Google Drive on my Nexus 7 most of the time.If I have no Wi-Fi, I use a simple little writing app called Writer. XD |

I use Microsoft Word as well, I prefer it to Open Office. I do sometimes jot things down in my email drafts, if I'm in a rush or it's just handy. |

When I'm around the computer, I like Word and Scrivener. When I'm not, I have this handy little thing called a brain. Unfortunately, it's not always the best system, since it forgets some things. |

It's usually fatal; I always generally forget the idea later, and wish I had put pen to paper! |

That's happened way too many times to me...now I write down every idea I find, especially since they tend to be few and far between... |

I use the following: Write on paper before transferring to computer (My handwriting is atrocious and needs to be condemned, and putting it on the computer makes it more orderly) Microsoft Office Word 2007 - I use this sort of as my central database. Notepad - BEST. NOTE-RECORDER. EVER. Its lack of formatting makes me go to Microsoft Word, though. Sticky Notes - Introduced to me by my sister, great little tool, can re-size, just if I need a reminder or something. I don't know what systems it is on, but it is on at least, a Toshiba laptop. |

It's a bit late for me to reply to this, but ... that should be easily fixable, either by turning off the "smart quotes" "autocorrect" or by changing the font to something where the open-quote and close-quote characters aren't "Chinese characters." Personally, I prefer not to use a word processor at all unless I have to; for most of my writing, note-taking, etc., I use a standard text editor like Vim. And I'm teaching myself to use LaTeX for the poetry collection I'm working on. |
