Post subject:  Effects of sound on perceived temperature.

Hey all, been a while since I posted.

Got a question/idea open for discussion here: Have any of you ever experienced "Feeling" cold or hot or anything in between by listening to a certain type of music?

I have had several encounters with this phenomena.

Some such songs that make me feel cold, hot, warm and cool would be as follows.

(Note: Nothing in any of these links is anything that could be seen as offensive or indecent)

Cold:
Heavy rain theme: http://youtu.be/VxIbIkycXwU
Paid in full By Sonata Arctica http://youtu.be/AI0GA7-iQTs

Hot:
Assassin's Creed - Chase Theme http://youtu.be/ZH1NFziHUxg
Sovngarde http://youtu.be/VBPwCmU0V-Q

Warm:
Transformers theme http://youtu.be/4H0JDomv8ac
Terminator 2 theme http://youtu.be/4xryhm6YVhk

Cool:
Last night of the kings by Van Canto http://youtu.be/vqGiiGiVz1o
The Mission by Van Canto http://youtu.be/dlGilzjSqh8

Am I the only one experiencing this?

Now for the idea: Does anyone think we could achieve the same result through written word. Give greater story immersion by making the reader "Feel" What is going on in the story? Give such a detailed description of not only the surroundings but also the sensations experienced by the character. Vivid but not overbearingly long.

What do you think?

I do detect certain temperatures when listening to music. I don't feel it, but I hear it. Fascinating!

I'm trying to think if I've ever been made to feel cold or hot along with a book character, and I do believe I have. I mean, it's not that my hot-cold nerve sensors start sending physical signals to my brain, but...I do feel it, in a way.

Thank you for this very interesting topic (and for the beautiful music).

I listened to those, and I certainly see what you mean. * tries to come up with some more songs that have a perceived temperature *

I am not sure how the writing is connected to the music. Are you suggesting that we analyze songs that make us feel a certain way and replicate them in our stories?

I see what you mean now. I could see those three being as you describe.
