Post subject:  The Riddle-Master of Hed
Has anyone ever heard of/read this series? I picked up the first one at a library sale 'cause books were a dollar a bag and it looked interesting. I was totally enthralled. I've waited years to finally get the sequels. I've read the first one three time trying to solve it and I was still totally blown away by the ending. It's not as long or as epic or as involved as Lord of the Rings but it's still an equal in my mind. It's pretty intense magic/fantasy wise, if you have a thing against mind work, but I loved it. And it's really obscure, which is totally unfortunate. It is a riddle all the way up to the ending, so if you like riddling it's impossibly engrossing.

Is this the same series that you referred to in discussing Land-law in General Discussion? You've got me intrigued, but unfortunately I live somewhere where it's very hard to obtain books, or at least new ones...I can usually get classics like Jules Verne, etc. I would like to try to get my hands on these though, I'd never heard of them but they sound very interesting and...puzzling. :D Thanks for the shout-out!

Yes! Same series!!!
I got my first copy from a library book sale. (I think I said that.) It was sheer chance that I picked it up. The rest I've got off of Ebay. I don't know of anywhere you can even get them new. I don't think they're in print any more. :(
But they're awesome.

I requested this from my library card catalog on a whim when I had nothing else to read because I had seen this thread, Janin, and I have two words for ya.

Totally. Epic.

As soon as I read the first sentence on the inside of the jacket flap, I knew I would like it, if only for the quirkiness: It must be understood that Hed was not a place that ordinarily produced heroes.

Then as soon as I got engrossed in the story it was amazingly hard to put down. It's not a book for people who like questions answered right away. I agree with you on it being an equal to LOTR. Morgon felt very real to me, as did Raederle. Neither were willing heroes and I like that.

Man. Poor Morgon -- but the ending totally surprised me. I savored this trilogy to the very end. I was also lucky enough to get the last two books in a one-volume set. :D Thanks so much for recommending this!
