Eye On The Prize

I catch the jellybean in my black-gloved hand just before it hits the floor. I breathe a sigh of relief. It is just inches away from clattering on the tile floor. Placing the jellybean back on the table with the rest, I take another slow step. Any sudden noises – such as jellybeans falling on the ground – will wake up the man on the couch.

I cannot afford that.

Reaching out to steady myself, I let my eyes adjust to the dark room. It seems I am in the kitchen. I glance at my illuminated watch. Two o’clock in the morning. Perfect time to get the money.

The safe is in the bedroom. I switch my mind back to the blueprints I studied earlier. If the information is correct, the kitchen is on the south side, as well as the window through which I came in. The bedroom is on the north side, the opposite end of the house.

The hallway is in front of me. All I have to do is sneak through it, make my way into the bedroom, and crack the safe. Easy, right?

Let’s get this party started.

I press my back up against the wall. I sidle along, my padded boots making virtually no noise on the cold floor.

I am halfway across when something catches my eye. A light, coming from the bedroom. Moving shadows as well. I stop cold in my tracks.

The hallway light is still off, thank goodness. But lights mean people. And people mean trouble.

Trouble means jail.

That can’t happen.

Hoping nobody will see me, I put my wristwatch in my pocket. I knew I shouldn’t have brought one that glows in the dark.

The hall light bores into my eyes, momentarily blinding me from seeing the policemen rush through the door and level their loaded weapons at my head. I clench my eyes shut and ball my hands into fists, frustrated.

“Cut! Great job everybody. Now let’s move on to the scene at the jail.”

I smile, rip the sweaty ski mask off my face and leave to go change my costume.

Pretty much whatever my teacher gives me...I really like Jazz though.

I thought I had more writing to post, but I can't seem to find any. :shock: I will search some more...

It's okay. ;) And my advice would be to look around, learn by example. You don't have to have just one thread in the Fireside; you can have as many as you want, for different story excerpts, poems, etc., even whole novels.
