Nice to meet you Zac, welcome to Holy Worlds!

Ooh, Lord of the Rings is awesome.

So is spring, hockey (though I don't play it) and writing. ;)

What's your favorite type of music? What kind of stuff do you like to write?

Looking forward to seeing you around here! :D

Let me see.

I have to say that my favorite type of music is classical (Bach, Beethoven, Handel, etc.), both for listening to and playing. I also love movie scores, hymns, and anything that puts me in the right mood.

In terms of writing, I'm currently working on fantasy (just posted a topic over in The Village regarding my series in progress). Beyond that, I'm interested in sci-fi, mysteries, espionage, adventure, maybe historical fiction, you name it. Hopefully that will keep me busy for a while. :)

Due to my rabid writing schedule, I haven't been reading nearly as much as I want to of late. In the past, I have read several of Stephen Lawhead's novels, and I especially enjoyed Chuck Black's Kingdom Series. Douglas Bond is another favorite, although he hasn't written any fantasy yet.

Thanks for making me feel welcome. "No, Wencel, you need not fear estrangement once we have crossed into Erladis." From book 1 of The Blue Flame Chronicles.

Welcome to Holy Worlds, Lord Tarin! :D It's great to have you with us.

I love Lord of the Rings. ^_^

Do you actually play hockey, or is it just your favourite sport?

I've been listening to quite a bit of Vivaldi whilst writing recently, do you like his music?

I haven't played in any real hockey games, just with my siblings out back. It can get rough. :0

I do like Vivaldi's music, especially his 4 seasons, but I'll listen to pretty much anything while I'm writing if it doesn't distract me. I find classical music to be very stimulating.

Never in his life had Garaden heard such soothing melodies. He closed his eyes and let the music flow around him and through him like shimmering ripples. From book 3 of The Blue Flame Chronicles.

Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" from The Messiah is probably my favorite song ever! :D

My choir sings it every year for one of our performances. :dieshappy:, and several other selections of that work as well. My copy is so beat-up and dog-eared. *chuckles*

In fact I do.

My main instrument is piano, which I love. I usually play classical pieces. It's very therapeutic and helps to soothe me when I feel about to go mad from writing:). I used to know a little guitar, but strings aren't my forte.

I also play recorder with my family. We do four-part hymns and I play the bass. Quite nice.

If there's one instrument I want to learn, it's the Irish Whistle. The sound they make is absolutely gorgeous, haunting really.

Very cool! How long have you been playing piano? I'm sure it would be fun to play the Irish whistle. It's fun to play music with one's family! :D

I have both a bamboo flute and a Turkish flute (very similar to the recorder) that I hope to start playing more before too long. Otherwise, I play piano, violin, and guitar.

Music is awesome. ^_^

I went through a children's music program, so I started playing piano when I was three-and-a-half. There was a bit of a lull after I graduated, but I started again about 10 years ago.

Flutes are cool. :D

The world would be very dull without music.

Welcome to Holy Worlds, Tarin!

I've been reading The Fellowship off and on for 2 years (honestly, I think it's because I watched the movies 3 dozen times) and spring is a nice season. I personally like the transition in between spring and summer. (At least here up north). ;)

How did you find out about Holy Worlds? Was it through another member, search, ect? I find it to be a perfect place for the kinds of writings I do...when the inspiration and time comes to me. I hope you're able to make your home here like the rest of us. ^^

I don't believe I've ever seen hockey being played. :D

Yes, his four seasons are my favourite.

Welcome Lord Tarin!

Your interests seem quite extensive! It sounds like you are a lover of classics. So might I ask if you have read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? It's one of my personal favorite books. (And, although it doesn't say it right now, my username used to be Captain Nemo, if that is any indication of how much I love the book. ;) I can explain the rest of my username if you so wish...)

Although I don't listen to Bach or Beethoven in my spare time (oldies and musicals are more my listening interests), I do play them on piano. :D I thoroughly enjoy playing piano, and I am currently working on Bach's Toccata in D Minor. It's an arrangement since it's meant for organ, but it sounds great on piano, too. One of my main reasons for wanting to play that piece in particular is because Captain Nemo (from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) played that piece in the 1954 Disney version of the movie (which I personally think is an awesome movie! :D ).

What type of music to you tend to play?

And, although I have not read The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, they will make it on my large reading list. I have seen the movies, though, (and watched siblings play the Hobbit play station game... )

Spring is a wonderful season! But so is fall. That's the time of year you get hot apple cider, fresh apples, apple pies, sugar.... Haha.

Have you ever heard of the Kingdom Keepers book series? You strike me as the type of person who would enjoy it.

Do you have any favorite movies/TV shows?

I hope you enjoy your stay on here. :D If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to PM me. I love helping out. *Blows boatswain whistle* WELCOME LORD TARIN!

OH! And you should try visiting chat sometime if you haven't already. It's a wonderful place where nearly anything can happen.

I'm just going to echo what everyone else has said: love the Irish whistle. I play guitar, but if there's one instrument I want to pick up next, it's the Irish whistle. :D I daydream about moving to the mountains some day and sitting on a little grassy hill, beneath an ancient tree, playing a whistle out over the valleys. *sighs* (Yeah, so I'm a hopeless romantic at heart...and I hope all you writerly types know which type of romance I'm referring to.)

Also. Hockey is not my thing. I don't get it. XD

Not yet. I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy it, though, because from what I hear it has pages and pages of description.... o.O But that's beside the point. We're here to welcome Tarin, not discuss a book I haven't read yet... :P ;) I'll give you my thoughts as soon as I get through my large pile of books to read and finally get to them... Though I might decide to just not read them and torture y'all with that fact. ;) Nahhh... that'd be too cruel.

Tarin, (or do you prefer Zac?) you said Lord of the Rings is your favorite book. Do you mean the trilogy as a whole? (Since it might as well be one book...I think Tolkien intended it that way and his publishers balked) Do you have a favorite contemporary novel?

I found you guys searching on the internet for something like Christian fantasy. I, too, am hoping it's a good place to be for the type of writing I'm interested in, and I'm looking forward to making it home.

Wow, where do I begin?

Yes, I have read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, although I found some parts of it tedious.

I love playing piano as well. Toccata and Fugue in D Minor? That's impressive. It's probably my favorite of Bach's works. I mostly play classical, but I do some stuff from movies and mess around with a few of my own compositions as well.

Fall is a close second to spring. Sometimes I can't decide, espeically when I think of chilly nights and drinking warm cider around a fire.

I haven't read the Kingdom Keepers. Who is it by?

The Lord of the Rings are my favorite movies, but I also like Narnia.

Regarding your name, O'Hara reminds me of Gone With the Wind and Banner makes me think of the novel Banner in the Sky by I forget who.

I don't have any music on the internet currently, but I do compose songs that I'm hoping might be used for an audio version of my series.

Tarin is fine in this world of exotic names.

Yes, Tolkien did intend LtoR to be a single book and yes I meant the trilogy as a whole. If I had to pick a recent favorite, i.e. in the last fifteen years, I'd go with one of Chuck Black's Knights of Arrethtraebooks.

This is officially my longest post. Thanks for all the questions and interest. :)

Sorry I had to delete all the smilies from the quotes, but apparently there's a limit of 7. :0  :'(

LOL, yes I figured out the smiley thing a short while ago in a very long, excited post where I had to delete several of them...

I couldn't really get into Mr. Black's books, but I have a brother who loves them. I love allegory, they make up some of my favorite books.

The Kingdom Keepers series is written by Ridley Pearson. They are about a group of kids who find out that Disney Land 'comes to life' at night, and that it's not quite as sweet and simple as it looks. I enjoyed them, though I've not read all of them, and as a rule I love Pearson's stuff. He also co-wrote a series called Peter and the Starcatchers, about Peter Pan--the guys obviously has Disney affiliations --and I think they are better, but that's just one opinion.

I thoroughly enjoy playing piano, and I am currently working on Bach's Toccata in D Minor. It's an arrangement since it's meant for organ, but it sounds great on piano, too. One of my main reasons for wanting to play that piece in particular is because Captain Nemo (from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) played that piece in the 1954 Disney version of the movie (which I personally think is an awesome movie!).

What type of music to you tend to play?

And, although I have not read The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, they will make it on my large reading list. I have seen the movies, though, (and watched siblings play the Hobbit play station game...)

If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to PM me. I love helping out. *Blows boatswain whistle* WELCOME LORD TARIN!

OH! And you should try visiting chat sometime if you haven't already. It's a wonderful place where nearly anything can happen.

Wow, where do I begin?

Yes, I have read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, although I found some parts of it tedious.

I've heard this... I've actually only read the abridged version. But I'm re-reading it in its entirety this year, and then in French!

Lord Tarin wrote:
I love playing piano as well. Toccata and Fugue in D Minor? That's impressive. It's probably my favorite of Bach's works. I mostly play classical, but I do some stuff from movies and mess around with a few of my own compositions as well.

I don't believe what I'm playing includes the Fugue... but I could be mistaken. I absolutely love that piece... it's so... just... awesome.

Ahh, yes. Agreed.

I haven't read the Kingdom Keepers. Who is it by?

The Kingdom Keepers series is written by Ridley Pearson. They are about a group of kids who find out that Disney Land 'comes to life' at night, and that it's not quite as sweet and simple as it looks. I enjoyed them, though I've not read all of them, and as a rule I love Pearson's stuff. He also co-wrote a series called Peter and the Starcatchers, about Peter Pan--the guys obviously has Disney affiliations--and I think they are better, but that's just one opinion.

What he said... :P I personally enjoy the two books on different levels. It's hard to compare the two. The Kingdom Keepers kind of combines sci-fi with fantasy. It's really cool... explaining it just makes it sound more lame than it actually is... and the writing style is awesome. Some of the boy-friend girl-friend stuff I'm not a huge fan of, and once or twice some very mild language shows up (on both series, though I haven't read all of the Star Catcher books yet), but it is a secular author. Anywho, though you might enjoy it. He's still writing two more Kingdom Keepers books and currently has five out.

I actually met Ridley Pearson IRL and heard him speak about writing. He was very entertaining. But this is off topic...

Lord Tarin wrote:
The Lord of the Rings are my favorite movies, but I also like Narnia.

Ahhh, good choices. I tend to lean towards older movies and TV shows, but I also love modern ones, such as these.

Lord Tarin wrote:
Regarding your name, O'Hara reminds me of Gone With the Wind and Banner makes me think of the novel Banner in the Sky by I forget who.

Huh.. didn't think about that. Nope. the Dr. and Banner go together, referencing Banner from the Incredible Hulk 70s TV show, and OHara is referencing Tim O'Hara from the old My Favorite Martian TV series. Ironically, both of these characters are played by the same actor: Bill Bixby. And I am not a guy... o.O Yeah... I'm weird. :P

Anywho, WELCOME ONCE AGAIN. :D

And I, too, have once again managed to exceed the smiley limit... twice...

*nodnod* Much as I think spring is awesome, fall be-eth my favorite, for reasons of which you have stated (amongst a host of others).

It must be something about writers.

Honestly, though, I have few if no people that don't like at least some type of music. We can argue about what kinds are the best all day long, but that's another subject for another time. :book:

Welcome!
I play piano and a bit of clarinet. Have you ever heard of/played any of L. Einaudi's music? I discovered it (well, my piano teacher showed me it) this summer. It's beautiful, but all the songs I've heard are rather sad.

As a matter of fact, I haven't. What type of music does he write?

I'm not sure what you would call it.
This is the song I'm playing by him right now (it's rather long):

My frind played Primavera:

Now you can decide for yourself what kind of music it is!

A grand total of three (although we've jokingly begun to adopt several guys from church who would qualify as older brothers :D ).

I am the oldest.
I am the most rational.
I am...well, never mind. :x
