Hello there, one and all. I require help in solving a riddle.
Well, maybe it is better said: I need an answer to a question...
Hmm. Better yet, I suppose, is that I would like a resolution to an irritation.

You see, some months ago I came across two fantasy scenes of the type which are so popular right not, concerning modern landmarks portrayed in various states of decay. These two pictures are of the same cathedral-like building in London, near to the Big Ben clock tower. I wanted to know what building this was, considering how many ancient abbeys and chapels there are, and so I employed the help of Google Maps to stroll down that way to spy the building in the pictures. I never found one to match.

I had forgotten about this little mystery until I came across a third picture of the very same building this past week—while trying to find fantastical libraries—and it reignited my interest, not to mention my irritation.

Below are directions on how to find the pictures: (because I can't get the links to load)

#1 should be reached by searching for 'fantasy art scenery wallpaper by Bechira Sorin' Likely, on this same page, you will be able to find #2.
This first picture is perhaps the clearest, and there's a good chance one of you will recognize it at once, and if you do, I will be eternally grateful. Not only can you spy big Ben himself standing in the background, but there is also a white structure either nearby or connected to the one in question. I found a building which appears like this located here*. In #1, there is a statue at the top of the stairs, and you can see all the archways and the patterns of the windows in the front of the room.

This is more broken up and abstract, but again we see the clock tower, as well as what appears to be either a bridge, or possibly a piece of Westminster. You can tell it's the same building by finding the statue—now fallen—and the familiar arcs and windows and stair. I'm unsure of what importance or relevance the Underground sign is. There is also a third building in view, but I can't make it out.

#3 (I can't find this one right now. Give a couple days and I'll try to grab a link)
This is my most recent find, and the smallest picture. It isnt easily recognized as the same structure, and I wouldn't have noticed the similarities had I not already studied the first two scenes. (I apologize, but I've been unable to find a larger print of this photo) There are differences between #3 and the others. For example, the moldings in the arcs at the front, the small doorways on either side of the stair, and the fountain before the stair. The statue may or may not be hidden in the dark recess at the top of the stairs. I'm reasonably sure the fountain is not part of the original scene. It may be that the differences are because this is a separate end or wing of the structure, but the architecture is the same.

For the angle of the building itself—between the view of Big Ben and the white building I found nearby—St. Margaret Church fits nicely, but the pictures I've uncovered of the inside of this chapel do not match. It is also a possibility that it is part of Westminster Abbey, but again, the inside architecture does not mirror the scenes.

I'm sure there is an insanely simple answer this little problem that's been bugging me, and I hope that someone here might be able to figure it out. Thanks!

It's the Natural History Museum. The statue is to Charles Darwin.

Thank you so much! You are my hero! (Even if it does turn out that the building I've been trying to locate so hard has a life-size statue of one of my least-favorite people ever. :P ) But thank you, again, Samstarrett! I can live my life out in peace and happiness now. Ok, so that might be overdoing it just a touch; but seriously, that was bugging me. ;)

Yeah, so I was a bit over-the-top, wasn't I? :roll: There are times when I think my personality borders on OCD, and things like this irk me.

Notice that in the picture you linked to the statue was fallen to the side, on its head.

I did see that. :D The statue was one of the things that made me sure it was the same building.
