What did you all think of them? I really, really enjoyed them. For those who don't know what they are, it's about a young boy who goes to live with his aunt, uncle, and three cousins in Kansas. He sleeps in an attic, and finds magical cupboards in his wall.

Hmmm, I'll have to check those books out at the library.

I loved the first one! I read the second one too but don't remember it... (I have a terrible memory! :) )
But yes, I love the series!

Who's your favorite character(s)? I like Monmouth (among others).

Well the only book I really remember was the first - and that just had Henry and his aunt, uncle, etc.
Now I want to get the 2nd and 3rd book and read them again!! (or for the first time for the 3rd book :) )

I had never heard of this before here, but on Narniafans today, they announced that this author is writing the screenplay for The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis. :)

I heard about that. I've never read the book, so I don't know what it's about.

Definitely read the other two. They're great. If movie-makers were able to stick to the book (completely) the books would make an awesome movie.

It's an adult book - mostly philosophizing about the human condition, and not a ton of 'story' as we consider stories. It's really fascinating! (over age 16 or 17, I think...) And it's not about divorce at all - it's about heaven & hell, and the human condition, and that kind of thing. As I said. Philosophy. :D

Not meaning to hijack the thread here, but I just wanted to throw in a quick two bits and add a recommendation of The Great Divorce. Read that this summer and its really good! (They're making a movie of it?)

Apparently. And, Mr. Wilson's given permission for the 100 Cupboards trilogy to be made into a movie. No idea to who, when they'll be made, or anything, I just saw a post on his blog saying that The Great Divorce and the trilogy are going to be movies.

For those who have read the books: Who's your favorite character?

I haven't read them, but I have heard they are really good!

The Great Divorce is a really good book!

I have the first one from the library, and I am HOOKED! I am in chapter 6, and so far I think:
-There is more to Uncle Frank than meets the eye. Something makes me suspicious of him...
-Henrietta's character gets better as she goes along.
-The grandfather has something to do with the guy in the purple robe.
-Either or both of the above characters have something to do with those cupboards.
-I'm wondering why the series is called 100 cupboards, when the back says he finds 99. That unopenable room, perhaps? (The backs of books can be such spoilers!)
-Zeke is going to get involved in this.
-Aunt Dot is really nice.
-Tumbleweeds are rather icky the way Wilson describes them.

Now I have finished the book. My thought while and after reading are: (I like to rant... ;))

-Henrietta is going to get him in TROUBLE!

-Wow, Uncle Frank wasn't what I thought he was, even though I thought there was more to him than met the eye...

-What is up with Henry's parents? They don't seem to really care about him, they lied about him, and THEY AREN"T HIS REAL PARENTS!

-The first world he dreamed about with the dog is the world he came from.

-That witch is going to show up again, and here comes trouble!

-Plaster is nasty.

-I was right! His grandfather's room and the cupboards were related.

-The Wimpering Child. I knew it! :D

-Beside the fact that this is a trilogy, there has to be more!

So, I thought it was pretty good, and look forward to reading the sequels!

-Probably. ;)

-What did you think him to be? Aside from what he is?

-Honestly, no idea. They're probably just too busy with their career.

-Not entirely sure if you're asking or you know, so I'll wait.

-My friend, trouble is an understatement. ;)

-I don't know if plaster's nasty. I've never tried picking it off walls.

-Haha. ^^

-Oh, there's lots more.

You'll enjoy them. I know I do. :)

I'm actually getting around to answering these...

- I'm certain of it!

- Um, some black market dealer or something. I don't know where that came from.

- Hmm.

-I thought he was from Badon Hill.

And I have read Dandelion Fire, and have some thoughts.

-I knew Henrietta was trouble.

-I was right! Badon Hill was the world he came from!

-Frank is his real uncle! Yes!

-Henry's Dad is going to be an interesting character. I like him already, especially how he saved Henry's life (a few times). That was cool.

-Caleb is so cool! He is my favorite so far!

-Why do I get the feeling Zeke might become Henry's cousin?

-Darius was freaky. I was kind of glad he died, as odd as that sounds typing it out.

-The didn't get Niamene! Well, there is another book...

-I like his mother. :)

-I was kind of thrown off by the whole "2nd sight" thing and the stuff Darius was doing to adopt Henry. :? It seemed... I don't know how to put it.

-She means well... most of the time.

-Bingo! :D

-His dad is cool. I LOVE his name.

-Ditto. He, Mordecai, and Monmouth are among my favorites. :)

-I don't know. What makes you think that?

-Yeah, he was weird. The bad guys seem to try and makes themselves look different than what they actually are.

-Another book with more adventure.

-Yeah, she's sweet. Her name is pretty.

-I suppose the adopting part was more or less confusing. The 2nd sight is basically seventh sons can see the 'essence' of whatever they look at, and they can see the 'solid' form (or wahtever form it is).

-Yeah...

- :D

-Same here.

-:)

-The last chapter of Dandelion Fire, when they had all met up.

-I could go into a theological discussion on this, but I don't have time at the moment...

-I believe you there!

-She is. :)

-I figured that out, it just seemed a bit on the antsy side theologically for me. The adoption part made me think of witchcraft in some ways. The essence part I was OK with, the name just seemed funny to me, but I could handle it.

I'm trying to get through the 3rd book today. :)

-I see. Maybe it was the only place they could go to to watch the fireworks? Staying at the farm would have attracted people.

-Hmm. I can see how it would be wicthcraft, although I'm not sure how he would have been able to pull that one off anyway. Different worlds are confusing. :)

Cool. Happy reading!

I finished it! My thoughts:
-N. D. Wilson really gets you attached to the characters. He also has high stakes. I kept yelling "No! They (Mordecai and Caleb) can't die! No!" at numerous points in the book.

-James is just plain cool. That's all there is to it.

-I knew it! Tilly married Caleb. :)

-That was funny about the shop.

-The grandmother died. :'(

-I like these books, I'm planning on reading them through again!

-Frank became the King. I like that.

-Fingerlings are weird.

-So, Niamine didn't die?

-Haha. I like it when writers get you attached to characters like that.

-'Nuff said.

-I like how Zeke and his mom live in Henry's world now.

-That part was sad. :'(

-Cool. I love having books that never get boring after rereading.

-I do too. At first I though Monmouth would've been king, since Henry was supposed to have an equal take over after him. I guess the equal part was just a human.

-They are. And gross.

-She did, I think the stuff in the marble destroyed her.... I think...
