OH MY GOSH!!!! I'M NOT ALONE!!!!...Sorry. I had to vent. I'm so excited to find so many other writers and dreamers in one place! This is like Heaven!
My real name is Kayla. I'm living in Alaska, where the sun rises at 3 AM in the summer and sets at 3 PM in the winter. I'm also doing college online, preparing to be a teacher, and writing a book.
Writing is permanently embedded in my system. I've been creating little books for siblings since I was four. I began an inch-thick story when I was thirteen, and stopped when my family moved to Alaska. Now, God has put a new story on my heart. This is a crazy, wonderful, sometimes frustrating journey, and it's just beginning! I can't wait to see what my Savior has planned for me!

I found out about Holy Wars when I was at the Oregon Christian Writers summer coaching conference. That conference trip was a combination of "first"s for me: first flight alone, first writer's conference, first night in an airport, first critique group, first taste of the writing world. My morning coach read some of my writing, heard my background story, and recommended Holy Worlds. AND I'M SO GLAD I CAME!!!
For me, writing is all about going beneath the surface. Come to think about it, everything I do (teaching, drawing, singing) is for that purpose. I see life as a metaphorical iceberg. We live on the surface, the visible 10%. But there is another 90%, hidden beneath the water. It is far more magnificent and powerful than the little realm we live on. God's gift to me--and, I believe, to all writers He has called into His service--is the ability to glimpse part of the other 90% of life and show it to the rest of the world. Whether my work is only read by one person, or touches the hearts of the multitudes, I count it all for the sake of Christ. It is for His glory and His kingdom that I am doing this.
God made His will for me explicitly clear years ago. It's only because I'm a finite human that I've taken so long to get His message through my dense head. Before I moved to Alaska, I lived in Florida for nigh on eleven years. In a hood. Every day, as I sat in my room, writing and drawing and whatnot, I would look out my window and see young people walking by. Some were teenage mothers; some were ganger wannabes; some were ordinary kids just trying to maintain the status quo. But they all had one thing in common: none of them were saved, and they were all looking for something. I don't mean they were peering under bushes and scratching their heads. I mean, they had this aura of lostness. I see it all the time. I can sense when someone is searching for a deeper meaning to life. For something that will satisfy them. That something, or Someone, is Jesus Christ. Whether I'm in a classroom or on Word Document, I want my work to lead them to the One Answer to all questions.
That said, I am very honored to be here; and I pray that during my time here, I may help reach others for our King.
