My dad just sent me a link to this cool site, if you sign up (I did!), they will email you a lesson in coding each week of 2012. They say you'll learn how to code apps and build websites...I haven't tried the first lesson yet, but thought I would share this for those of you interested in coding. All it takes to sign up is your email! Hope this is helpful to those of you dreaming of 'authoring' a christian RPG. even though it's not targeted to that sort of coding, I'm sure it'll help.

Neat! I took a few classes on building a basic web page, so I'm somewhat familiar with coding and syntax in that form. I have yet to actually create a web page though. :P I haven't had much time to practice of late.

Yeah, I know how hard it is to maintain something like that!

Wow, that's neat. :D I know a little about coding, as I've done a little in a video game's own language, and I'm learning Website design in school. :)

I think I'll do this in the future. Thanks!
God bless,

This is so cool. I've never seen any online course in any subject that was actually this easy to follow...

How's this going? Have you been emailed your second lesson? :)

Yes I have! But I'm stuck on the 5th step of the first lesson!  :?
Planning on trying again today, though...I really want to learn this type of thing.

What kind of programming languages are you using? Or is it more like webpage writing and HTML right now?

I think it's programming with javascript, it's fun to learn, but it's hard to memorize all the things like what needs "" around it and what needs () or [] around them, and then combining those things with new concepts at the same time. Usually the hint helps me out, but not this time. Oh, I just went and looked at the place people ask questions about each step (a really nice feature), and found the answer! Feel a little bit like a loser (this isn't a foreign feeling for me, as I'm sure it isn't for a lot of people  ) for cheating, but hopefully I'll catch on anyway.

Man, I totally understand! Javascript is actually a real pain (I don't think it's typesafe, which makes it harder to catch all those syntax bugs!). I never learned much of it, but I had to use it when I was working on a web app once. Don't feel like a loser about copying code, either. In my experience, the best way to learn is to take a chunk of existing code and play around with it. Try to add stuff in, take stuff out, comment out some lines of code to see what breaks, etc.

I made up a little ditty about my internship where I did that web app:
"Search and copy, paste and tweak,
paste and tweak,
paste and tweak,
search and copy, paste and tweak:
job de-scription."
(to the tune of London Bridge, if it isn't obvious ;) )

Thanks for the encouragement and I think I'll probably try "search and copy paste and tweaking" after I learn a more substantial amount of the language, thanks for that idea!
That ditty is awesome! It sounds like something my dad would think up, he has a "special" version of 'it's the most wonderful time of the year.' It goes like:
It's the most, wonderful time, of the year
When the checkers are fumbling and everyone's grumbling
And everyone sneers! It's the most, wonderful time, of the year!

Needless to say, he was working in a grocery store when he thought that up.
