It does look awesome! I think I love the dwarves. :D
But how closely are they sticking to the story, I wonder? Is it true that Aragorn is going to be in it?

I can't wait to see what the lake men look like, so I can get my sister to make me a costume to go in.

That will be fun! You'll have to post a picture of you in your costume!

Yes, but they seemed to show even less than usual. ;)

Well they are not half way done filming the movie so that's probably why.

It looked to me that she was comforting him. He looked very tired.
(That scene is probably part of the white council.)

Ana, she's old enough to be his mom several times over I'm sure. I wouldn't worry about it. Plus she and Celebrant have had a healthy relationship for thousands of years. I'm sure it's just her inner mom.

But wait. The White Council is not supposed to be shown in the book. *sigh*
It'll probably still be good.

They're adding in all the behind the scenes stuff that Gandalf was doing during the hobbit.

Minor point; Technically it's more like he's old enough to be her dad. Gandalf as Gandalf is much newer, but Gandalf is one of the Maiar, Olorin (I think that's the right spelling), and so he's basically ancient, as in older than the world itself.

No, he's about 3,000 years, she's something more like 12,000 at the very least.

Gandalf, as Gandalf, isn't as old as Galadriel. But Gandalf is also Olorin, before he became one of the Istari (wizards) and sailed over to Middle-Earth. And Olorin is older than Middle-Earth itself, because he's a Maiar.

Uh-oh, the discussion on Gandalf's true identity. This'll be interesting.

That seems to be the biggest discussion point about the whole trailer. I doubt there's any romance between the two. Gandalf had the hardest job in the White Council, since he was the only one of the Istari to stay true to his duty.

For it not being in the book, it'd be pretty boring without it. It'd be 2 hours of dwarves grumbling while riding or walking with some interesting stuff happening occasionally.

Post subject:  Re: The Hobbit Trailer

I highly doubt that it was any romance, I think that she was saying Goodbye, Giving him advice, comforting him, or something like that. :D

I wouldn't worry too much on the issue, they were probably trying to make discussions like this with that scene. ;)

Post subject:  Re: The Hobbit Trailer

As this is only a first trailer, I'm not going to worry very much yet. But filmmakers do not have a very good track record on films made from the Inklings' books lately: while the Lord of the Rings films, Wardrobe, and Caspian were good, probably very good, and maybe even great movies, they were far better books, and the places where the movies most obviously stumble are the places where they broke from the books ... and in each case it became obvious that they simply didn't understand what was important about the story (or, if they understood, they didn't care). (To avoid derailing the thread with discussion of the particulars of my criticism of those movies, I'll just say that I've belabored the points in the Film category of my blog, instead of detailing my complaints here.) So while I'm not yet all that worried (especially since Jackson appears to atually care about the main story that Tolkien wrote, so he's not likely to relegate it to a subplot in favor of a plot made up out of whole cloth), I don't have any high hopes for this project. But we'll see.

The Inklings? (Is that a nickname for authors? I like it!)

Not quite. Wikipedia explains better than I, though in this context (as usual) I merely meant Tolkien, Lewis, and Williams.

I found a wonderful discussion of the Hobbit Trailer here. I was upset over the apparent plot modifications, but this post made me think a little. I highly recommend you read it. :)

Bilbo had me with "I'm a Baggins ... of Bag End!" and the expression on his face when he said that.
