I'm Will Treaty aka Jonas. My friend Eli told me about this and I figured it'd help to have a Christian area to throw out writing stuff and fantasy in particular. If you've read Ranger's Apprentice then you know my username. My favorite fantasy novel is probably Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson or the Chaos Walking Trilogy.

Hello and welcome to Holy Worlds Fantasy! I've not read that book, sadly, it's always sounded interesting, but I like your username all the same. :D

Yay!
Brandon Sanderson is amazing. Did you read the Wheel of Time books? He completed that series for Robert Jordan.
Ranger's Apprentice is also amazing. Unfortunately, I'm reading so many other books that I haven't read the last couple.
Welcome here. I haven't heard anyone else mention Brandon Sanderson, so if you want to talk, pm me.

Another of Eli's friends! Hurrah!

Welcome, Will. Do you do much of your own writing?

Welcome to Holy Worlds, Will Treaty! Ah, way to go Eli on recruitment!

Sadly, I also have not read the Ranger's Apprentice books nor anything by Brandon Sanderson. I hear the Ranger's Apprentice books are a good read.

I hope you've enjoyed what you've seen thus far on the site. ^^

I've gotta get some sleep so I can reply coherently if you respond later on. o.O

Until then!

Welcome to HW, Will! Do you write a lot? Is fantasy your favourite genre? Nice to have you here!

I try to write alot. I don't know if fantasy is my favorite genre but it has a sort of special place for me since it was one of my intial favorite genre's. I have a hard time finding good fantasy novels that have great charcters mixed with a good plot, most times it's just great local and setting and flat charcters it seems to me. I don't know if the book American Gods by Neil Gaiman counts but that's one of my favorites that I'm reading currently.

Welcome to HW! I've read all but the last Ranger's Apprentice book, and the Lost Tales that just came out.

For Brandon Sanderson, I've read his Alcatraz Smedry books. His others ones are a bit to long for me to read during the school-year.

I've found the same problem with fantasy.

At least you try to write often. I wish I could say the same. Ah, tis life.

It can be quite difficult to come across a good fantasy novel or series. We've got some great suggestions in The Watchtower, but it all depends on what holds you interest. Like you stated, some stories have some pretty wishy-washy characters with a great setting or vice versa.

Hey, would you look at that! It's Will Treaty come to visit our forum! <grin>
I saw your username on the board index and had to come down and make a comment. I've read the entire series, and I'm know of several fans on here. Though, you've probably already heard that... I came to comment, not to actually read what everyone else has said...

Anyhow, welcome to HW. Love your username. :D

Hey Jonas! I met you on chat, but I thought I'd come to your thread to deliver "proper welcoming." I see no one has gone insane yet with penguins or unicorns. Sometimes they really wreck welcome threads, just to see if you past the mandatory sanity test.

Tsk tsk! AzlynMae is the only one who has thrown any glitter! And Emmalina Cedar is the only one who has welcomed with treats in tow! This will never do! :P How can there be a celebration without a party, and what's a HW pary without mountains of glitter and treats? *Sets out a punch bowl, brownies, and caramel corn.* There. Much better! Now we need more glitter!

*Throws handfuls of glitter in the air* Welcome, Will Treaty, to this wonderful place called HolyWorlds!! :dieshappy:
I hope you enjoy your time here! The people are friendly, the writing is cool and interesting, and the chat room is fun!

Why, Elmirza's right! How could I have forgotten my usual plate of brownies covered in edible glitter? :o Well, I shall have to fix this! *sets up a plate of brownies, then quietly climbs up to the rafters and dumps bucket after bucket of edible sliver glitter down on the intro thread* There we are! *climbs down* All glitttered up! *Brushes glitter off clothes* :dieshappy:

Probably realistic drama. But fantasy has a special place for me since it kind of started me reading more widely. However, it''s rare for me to find a fantasy that intrigues me.

I say that because most guys who don't like a lot of fantasy do not because they prefer thriller action pieces.

You've already read the first one. :)

So, Will, what do you like to see in fantasy characters?

Welcome to Holy Worlds!

Oh! No. I don't read fantasy since I rarely find any that have great charcter...most focus on setting/plot.

How ... odd. Fantasy (or at least well-constructed fantasy) often has to emphasize setting, yes, because it's so often set in places so unlike our familiar surroundings, but I've usually found fantasy to focus on character far more strongly than science fiction usually does, and to use character as the vehicle for showing the setting, and sometimes even at the expense of the plot. (Not that these characters are always well-drawn, but, well, Sturgeon's Law applies to the quality of fantasy just as much as to any other genre ...)

So, Will, what do you like to see in fantasy characters?

Not being good. Not being ideal. Like I guess I prefer the hero to be more an anti-hero if that makes sense. A hero that screws up and makes major mistakes but somehow sees that they are either in the wrong or have some regrets.
