What to say, what to say? With all these writers around looking at all my mistakes....ummm....Yes, I am Sir Emeth Mimetes' mom. :)

He did get his love of fantasy from me. I loved Lord of the Rings before I was a Christian and totally neglected Jay as a toddler to read it again. He had to beg for me to stop reading to fix him some lunch. :) Then I listened to an audio drama of the books which scared him.

Any ways, I did later read out loud C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia while pregnant with Juliet. (Which he loved.) Eventually, I read the LoTR out loud also, to a larger family with 5 children listening. I have read a lot of stuff that I wish I hadn't (before becoming a Christian) and am really excited that there is such a great interest in writing Christian fantasy. It is a wonderful way to teach God's truths and reach others that may not be reached in other ways. Besides, we need them too, to encourage us, strengthen us, and keep pointing us in the right direction.

A warm welcome from one homeschooling mom to another! :)

I'm thrilled that Jay talked you into joining.
Knowing "Sir Emeth" and having "met" Juliet I admire you already!
Partly because you've raised these incredibly creative and interesting people.
Partly because you put up with them ;)

I'm enjoying reading some of your blog
and look forward to getting to know you better
(if Jay will let you use the computer long enough to post on HW.) *grin*

God's blessing!

Welcome Lady Lauser! I was so excited when I saw that "Jay's mom" had joined! ;)

Yay! You joined!! :D Hmm... maybe I should call you "Mrs. Lady Lauser" like Jay calls my mama "Mrs. Mann Mama". Except that Mrs. Mann Mama is more of an alliteration... oh well. :)

Hopefully now that you all have two computers you'll get to post pretty often. :) Oh, and don't worry, your writing is fine. :) We're just glad you're here.

Haha, that is funny. :)

Welcome, Lady Lauser!

Personally, I'm thrilled that you're on here. Now I can't help but wonder, who's the real leader of Holy Worldians? (just kidding)

Glad to have you on!

You can tell if a crowd is homeschooled if they can quote movies like the Aristocats without being self-concious :D . Right, Sir Emeth?

Um...no comment. (Yeah, pretty much gives me away.)

Welcome to our carnival of absurdity...er, noble center of fantasy discussion.

Self-conscious! Oh never....

"O-oh, you mean this gate key. "

"come, come....Algebra...Come, come..."

"You're not a lady. You're just a sister."

"It's a free sample."

"I suppose you haven't found out about the British consul yet? Of course not."

"Oh, I'm a dangerous criminal, I am. But it's a long story. "

"How do you like yourself?"

" 'Every wyrm has its weak spot,' as my father used to say, though not from personal experience I'm sure."

Welcome, Lady Lauser! I have to say, I'm glad to know that there are other parents out there that love fantasy, namely Tolkien's. It tells me that my dad isn't quite as insane as he might seem.

If it was possible to die from laughter, I probably would have. It's scary, though, I recognize most of those quotes (and use them myself).

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Did anyone ever notice that Viccini's trail of reasoning was utterly flawed and fallacious, and if he was as half as smart as he said he was (and really was in the book), he should have figured out the riddle easily enough and beat the "Man in Black"?

After I noticed that enough times to make me annoyed, I rewrote the scene with Viccini being logical. The problem was that the logical result of the contest would be that he would pose a similar riddle to the "Man in Black" but I couldn't think of one. So there rests that scene until I do. :)

Hahaha! I just watched the movie for the first time with the kids this week.
Napoleon was my favorite character!!

Napoleon:...Oxford shoes, size nine
and a half. Hole in the left sole, it sounds like.
Lafayette: What color are they?
Napoleon: Why, theyre black... Ah, now how would I know that?

I loved that! :D

He does make one good point: "Never start a land war in Asia."

Personally experience with board games has lead me to see the wisdom of that statement...

LOL! Very good. Though, one can indirectly start one through the unwitting ignorance of another person/player/nation, and then steal their victory, or take advantage of their defeat. That is how I always did it. ;)

Alas! No member of my family desires to play such games, and so I have very little opportunity to sharpen my skill.

Come to think of it, I may have been victim to such tricks.

In my house, I'm forced to play such games. Like Risk; I play it but I always lose because I can't gather strength because one or another of my family members weakens my borders. *sigh* You all sound like my scheming brothers when it comes to such board games ;). One of my siblings would craftily pit another family member against me, and I always lost.

Lady Lauser, I'm not sure whether or not you're interested in such, but do you play games like this? Or are you normally busy with other things?

You all have been so gracious and welcoming! Thank you!

Yes, we do watch movies and do enjoy them. It still amazes me how much the 'children' (Sir Emeth Mimetes included) remember and quote after just one viewing. :) Movies have also sparked a lot of interesting, fun, and educational conversations. However, I still prefer the conversations and discussions started from books we have read.

A quote from a George McDonald really struck me the other day. It is not particularly 'profound' but more poetical and made me think differently about the night.

From 'Thomas Wingfold'

"...the night on her nest was brooding upon the egg of to-morrow;"

Any ways, thank you for all of the welcomes and I am enjoying the conversations.

God Bless,
Lady Lauser

I have to confess that I avoid Risk and such games. I grew up playing them and never did very well. I would drive everybody crazy because I would play to just have fun and not 'try' to win. The more competitive members of my family did not appreciate my approach to playing the strategy games. :)

I do enjoy Pente, Cribbage, and card games like Rummy and Nurts.

Elpis, my daughter, takes after her Papa and does really well with the strategy games. At 10 years old she would play chess with her Papa and do so well that he would have to actually think about his moves. :) Not like when he played with her older brothers at the time.

You aren't in trouble mama. Hahaha. I am improved, but not stellar by any means. Mostly because I don't spend enough time on it to develop my latent skills. :)

Not necessarily. I haven't been homeschooled since 7th grade (unfortunately) and I go around quoting movies out of the thin air like nobody's business. As do my younger siblings who were never homeschooled. I don't think it's an exclusive symptom of homeschoolers.

In Christ,
Jordan
P.S. - I've probably collectedly quoted the entire movie of Robots in random order over the course of the past year or two :)

I think the difference would be the type of movies watched and the older children 'enjoying' the children's movies that they watch together as a family. :)
