What would you want your eulogy to say if you died today? The epitaph on your gravestone? What would you say if you had time to write one last letter to your family before you died?

This is a very thought-provoking exercise, and I thought it might help somebody (no one in particular) to look at their life and perhaps realize that something needs to change.

If I died today, I hope that whoever gave my eulogy would say that I was a kind girl who cared about others more than herself. A hard worker, but a person who cared about how others felt, not just getting the job done. Someone who would always listen and help with others' problems, no matter how many she had of her own. The type of girl to be competitive, but lose gracefully. A strong Christian whose walk with God was obvious, a light to those around her. Loving, encouraging, supportive, and helpful. Defensive of her family, friends, faith, and anyone who was being picked on. Someone who the world would miss.

If I died today, I would want my epitaph to say:

Loving Daughter, Sister, and Friend
Dancing with Jesus

If I had time to write one more letter to my family before I died, I would say this:

Dear Dad, Mom, and four brothers and a sister who might want to remain anonymous for the purpose of this HW post,
First, I want to say that I love you all so much, more than anything in the world. I don't know what I would do without you.
Dad, we're always at odds about something or other, but you're there when I need you.
Mom, you gave birth to me and put up with me for almost nineteen years. That deserves a grand parenting prize.
Brother #1, dude, bro, guy, man, make some better friends. Don't go down the road you're headed for.
Brother #2, you have a talent for being annoying, but underneath that, when I can push past it, you're fun to be around.
Sister, my favorite (only) sister, you're beautiful just the way you are. And don't touch my stuff.
Brother #3, you're a special boy and we all love you so much. Keep gobbling. (family joke)
Brother #4, you're a very sweet, smart, and loving little guy, and I hope that stays a big part of your character as you grow older. I wish I could be there to see it.
I love you all so much, I want you to know that. Thank you for being my family and putting up with me. I'll see you guys in Heaven.
Love, Elizabeth

How would you want to be remembered if you died today?

If I died today, I doubt I would care what my eulogy said. I'd be too busy praising God in Heaven.

This is an exercise to see how you can make yourself a better person now, Strono, not a philosophical question.

If I died today...hopefully people would remember me for my smiles, not my frowns, for my patience, not the times I snapped at people...hopefully they would remember a godly young lady who always tried to do the right thing.

But would they? It is certainly motivation to live each day as if it were one's last.

A last letter to one's family? I like that idea...I'll have to do that when I have more time...

Great thread, Liza! Very thought provoking...thanks for putting it up here.

I want to be known as someone who was always loving Jesus and always loving other people. Otherwise, I'm not sure what that will look like, but it's what I want more than anything, no matter what the cost...

Hmm, not something I've thought a lot about to be honest. :D

But I have thought recently that sometimes when people die suddenly in a freak accident or etc, they try to pass on a last message to family sometimes. So it's a nice idea to prepare a last letter to them yourself - I love that idea.

As for a Eulogy, I don't know. However, I'd love it to have a scripture on, and be about God and His wonders rather than all about me. :D

No idea what I'd want my eulogy to be. But I do know that I would love my gravestone to read one or both of these: "She gave it all, and more than she had" and "Loved well, obeyed with joy".
