I find Melchizedek fascinating, though I'm not sure if he's my favorite. The Jews kept priests and kings separate, but Melchizedek lived before the founding of Israel, so he was able to be both a priest and a king. Melchizedek is somewhat mysterious, and one of the prophecies about Jesus said that He would be "a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek", symbolizing that Jesus would be both a priest and a king.

Interesting you should say that, Jonathan; I just read about Melchizedek a morning ago, and I too find him fascinating. :D I was always of the belief that Melchizedek was Jesus, for two things: firstly because when Abraham met him on the return of a battle, Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of what he had acquired, since a tenth is the measure of a tithe, and tithes are always offered to God. Secondly, in Hebrews, it describes Melchizedek to be the King of Salem, (salem meaning peace) king of righteousness, and " without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God". (Heb 7:3) To me, it sounds much like Jesus. :D

(Hope I didn't derail too badly there...)

It's on topic since it's about a person from the Bible who was mentioned on the thread. ;)

I don't see enough evidence from the Biblical text to prove Melchizedek is Jesus, since it says that Jesus was in the order of Melchizedek, that Melchizedek was "like" Jesus, that Jesus was a priest "like" Melchizedek, when it could have simply said that Melchizedek was Jesus.

*nods* That makes sense, thankyou for sharing your thoughts, Jonathan. :D

You're welcome. :D

It might be interesting to study Melchizedek in depth. :book:

We should have a HW Melchizedek Bible study. :)

I cannot possibly pick. Other than of course JESUS, I love Peter, Paul, David, Jacob, Joseph, and so many more!

Stephen is someone who has always fascinated me. I love how it says his face was like an angel when he began to speak before he was killed. I wish the light of Christ shone through me that obviously! :)

Stephen was amazing, wasn't he? :) I also admire Daniel for how diligently he sought the Lord when he was shown such remarkable things by the angel.

I really like Daniel, his 3 friends that were thrown in the furnace, and... I know I have more but I can't think of them right now. :P

Hmm.

I like Elihu, from Job. I find it interesting how he, the young guy, who hadn't spoken until then, ended up being the most right of the five. In fact, he wasn't rebuked by God at all. I don't think anything he said was untrue (in terms of what was said or in its application).

Favorite? I don't think I could call Elihu a favorite...It'd probably be one of the prophets for me.
God bless,
Crushmaster.

I've read Job at least a dozen times in my life and am still confused over who was right and who was wrong, and what they did wrong. :P We ought to discus this sometime.

Daniel is quite awesome, yes. I like Jeremiah a lot too.

I have a thing for J's, apparently.

Jonathan is my all time favorite, for many reasons.

Next in line is Joshua, then Joseph, and last of all, Josiah. :D

One of my 2 favorite male names is also a biblical J name, although that is off topic. :D

Jonathan was definitely really neat. I like him a lot. I really like Ruth too, just because she was such a faithful, meek, and brave woman. She inspires me.

*nods * Jonathan had so many admirable character traits, and not just in the story of David and Jonathan. He was worth emulating.

Also, Jonathan understood true friendship, while balancing it with true honor and respect for his parent.

Plus, he is one of those few characters that the bible never recounts a wrong action he has done. Not to say that he was sinless. :D But he truly was following after the Lords commands, unlike his Father.

*minni “rant” over * :D

*applauds the good rant* :D

I love Paul. I loved how he didn't let what he was and his past get in the way of his furthering the Gospel. I love the fact that he didn't let anything hinder his passion for Christ.

Yes, Jeremiah is really cool! He also seemed really humble and sympathetic, while still being strong and truthful.
