So, I've been wondering this for a while... how many of you go crazy when you find a letter addressed to you in the mailbox?? Or is communication limited to emails and texts? Or do you stick to chatrooms? Is the post too slow for you? Or do you stubbornly stick to handwritten letters on writing paper bordered with teddy-bears? Do you kind of compromise, typing letters then printing and mailing them? Obviously the post is a bit slow when you have international friends--but what do you prefer, emails (or other technological forms of communication) or letters?

I love getting letters but I think most of my friends prefer the web because I seldom get any. Most of the letters I write are draft letters sent in bulk so I definitely type those. Cards and letters are really special but thoughtful email can be nice too. It's good to know that someone is thinking of you beyond the usual notification or chain letter.

I never get letters. EVER. I think the last letter I got from an actual person was probably about seven years ago. But honestly I don't have anyone to really send me letters - all my close friends live within an hour of my house and I don't know any of their addresses. I find it much easier and quicker to text them or message the on Facebook :)

I have two friends that I write letters to by hand. In fact, I met them through letter writing itself! :D What started out as penpals has resulted in two friends who live at the bottom of Australia that I look forward to seeing whenever we get the chance to make a trip to visit.

Sometimes I cheat and write them on the computer and print them; purely because I type faster than I can write. But I keep in contact with them mainly by letter writing or phonecalls, or the occasional text.

I used to have a lot of penpals, but over time letters got few and far between, and some were ones I didn't wish to continue keeping in contact with. The ones I still write to are the ones that have stood the test of time, so's to speak. :D

People that I know from HW I haven't met (yet ;)) I keep in contact by HW or Gmail. :D

I prefer hand written letters to emails if it's for something like just friendly hello, which my sister finds extremely crazy of me, because she doesn't like "snail mail"

Usually, I get a letter once a week from my Abuelita. That we call her "Blessings" and...that's exactly what they are, haha. All packed up in a little envelope with a one dollar bill and her famous little saying. They're fun to get. But I don't reply back to them, since they aren't the replying back kind of letter... Sometimes my sister just texts her to let her know they've come.

As for writing letters... I hardly ever get to do that. :( For multiple reasons, one of them being that I communicate with all of my friends using the Internet, and no matter how hard I try to bribe them they refuse to use letters. Teenagers these days...so used to email. ;)

The other reason is that I fear my handwriting is utterly wretched. :P So my mum makes me type up any business letters I may write, which leaves me without any letters to write by hand. * sniff * 'Tis a sad mailbox we have...

I like to write letters, but I always get busy, procrastinate, then feel guilty when I don't get back right away.

Phili is my only official pen pal, but we most often contact each other through email and Holy Worlds now.

Melody and I grew up together, but we would write to each other once in a while. Now we contact each other through email and Holy Worlds as well.

(Although I fell off the earth's map this summer and lacked much contact with them personally this year.) :'(

Sometimes I just feel like writing to someone even though they live in town. In general, I love getting letter. Especially when I know I can get back to them in a semi-quick fashion. ;)

I don't have a typewriter or a printer... so I can't type it out. And I don't really know anyone I can't talk to twice a week! So letters are really of no use for me!

I miss letters. I have some friends with whom I exchange cards on occassion, but no long, comfy letters.

Well, back a few years ago, I had a long mailing list of pen-pals who I would write messy scribbled letters to every week from Japan (where I lived). Since I was in first grade or so I'd write them, and kept it up for about seven or eight years. Then in seventh grade I suddenly realized that I got a real, actual reply from them..less than once a month. If that. Not each--just one reply from my six+ penpals! So that was disappointing. And I haven't kept it up since that realization. Although I would love to. I love writing letters by hand!

I know life can get quite busy (as in, major-super-ginormously-excessively busy), but if anyone would like to, I'm in! (let's just exchange addresses and such by PM. More private that way)

:D

Last year I realized that I missed my friends from college, and that I wished I had developed the habit of maintaining correspondence long ago, so I posted an appeal for correspondents (letter or email) on my blog. I got two takers :) and now correspond by letter with one friend somewhat regularly. I always type my letters after I write them, so I'll know what I said and am less likely to repeat myself, but not before---going through multiple drafts until my penmanship is presentable or my ideas are fully-formed enough to send, as I did with my first few letters, is tedious enough to teach me to write better first drafts. :)

I've thought of sending Hurricane a letter. :D I'm not sure if I actually will or not. . .

I have a friend who I only see about once a year and lives maybe three hours from my house. We've been sending each other letters for a year or two maybe, but we always slack off. :P I haven't actually sent her a letter in several months. . . She's also a fantasy writer, and I've mentioned Holy Worlds to her a couple times. I should really convince her to join. We even do a role-play through letters. Sometimes I type the letters, most of the time I handwrite them.

I believe my first e-mail 'pen pal' was BushMaid. I still have all of her old e-mails, I can't bear to delete them. :D In fact, we still occasionally e-mail each other, and she sends me forwards sometimes. :)

I love it all. Every form of communication. Surprise anyone? However, there is something special about holding a letter in your hand and reading it... I love my pen pals!!!

I thought I'd posted in here!

Anyhow, I love sending and receiving letters. When I moved to Norfolk for a few months I met a lovely Grandmother there who lived in Leeds but was visiting, so we exchanged addresses because we got on so well, and I write to her and she writes to me and sometimes we have telephone conversations. :D

And when I was in Norfolk I constantly received letters from home, my sister and I wrote to each other all the time, and Kathy used to send me little parcels with gifts.

I met a young girl when I was young (I was probably about 10 and she was say about 3) and we wrote to each other, she was so nice and called me Mother, I loved to write to her, and we never stopped. I have only met her once since but we always keep writing.

You could write to me, Milly, only it can be quite expensive to send letters abroad. :P

Hey y'all!

I have a question for you all. :D A friend of mine would love a penpal, and I thought since some of you like writing letters, I would ask all you awesomes if you would like a penpal in Australia! Her name is Emily, she is 16 years old and would love to write to a girl around her age. If you send me a PM, I'll be able to forward on her mailing address, and give her yours so that you can both start writing. :D

She hopes to hear from one of you!
