Hey guys! Okay, so some of you may have seen my announcement, others may not. For your convenience, I will give you an abbreviated version:

I spent the day in a Dragon Orphanage today. Dragon Orphanage? Yes, that is what I said.

There is a somewhat exotic and little known creature called the Baby Dragon. They have chameleon like tendencies, but only change between varying shades of brown and green. Beautiful blue rings surround their eyes, growing, depending on their moods. Their bodies never get longer than a female’s thumb, but their tails are three times longer than their bodies. They are toothless (funny, I know) and their “claws” are harmless. What makes these creatures really fun is their social tendencies. They literally bond with their humans and draw comfort from feeling their body heat. So they make very nice pets, riding around on your body with you.

After some pleading with my Daddy, I adopted 2 baby Dragons. Yep, that’s right; the crazed dragon lover actually owns two dragons now. Thankfully they travel well; otherwise I’m not sure I could have convinced Daddy to let me buy them. We already have to leave Lexie with Grandma when we are gone, and I can’t see her taking care of my Dragons (not that I would really want my dragons left without my companionship).

Dragons of the same gender often struggle to bond, so a male and female dragon are the best companions, thus, I now have a male and female one. Nesting is possible, but few eggs reach maturity, and I would be lucky to have 1 egg survive in an eight year period. The first few days of their adoption are critical, since this is the time I will seal my bond with them.

So, I am asking for naming suggestions. No promise I’ll actually use them, I’m rather particular about names, but I would love to see the creativity HWers have to offer for my real dragons. I can’t fill out my adoption papers fully until I come up with a name, so it is high on the priority list. :D

I will show you guys some pictures after the bonding process.

Sir Sparks Not is my boy. I have a thing for unique names. :) He'll be Spark for short.

Now to figure out the girl...

Ohmygosh....!

You're giving me ideas in wanting dragons of my own now..!
>w <

Not too bad an idea though... *thinking about asking.*

What would I do when I went out and (like to a resturaunt or work) and couldn't take them? Would your dragns be okay all alone fora few hours??

And how did you find out about these little guys anyway~?

Oh yeah... Names.

Ah... Ahem! I don't if this matters...

But for some weird reason, Arwena and Branden (or maybe Rowan) are coming to mind for the girl and guy. :/

meh... I usually use this dragon name generator website sometimes to help with names ideas...

Anyway, could you put a pic of them? And maybe even the website of the shelter you got them from?? *is now really considering asking*

Okay, the adoption papers went out as Sir Sparks Not and Lady Emberless. :D

Crystluna: Okay, Dragons are exotics, so they are hard to find. I just happened upon a Dragon Orphanage in Pennsylvania, so I got lucky. There is no website for the Orphanage, I checked.

The Dragons are okay left alone for hours at a time, but they become quite frisky when left for a day. They also only eat every other day, and only drink water twice a day, so that makes a couple hour stint easier.

I will post pictures when the bonding process is over.

Okay, here are some pictures. We have Lady Emberless in the second picture and Sir Sparks Not in the first one.

Spark's duflap is rarely inflated, but I thought you guys would like seeing this picture, as opposed to just a picture of him with it deflated and flat against his neck.

They are both in their green stage in these pictures.

They are a type of Anole. They are actually called Baby Dragons, and they live in the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Many types of Anoles find human contact stressful. The Baby Dragons do not.

Those are officially the best pet dragon names ever. * stamps officially *

I am excruciatingly envious. :D

Yeah, I'm not typically a random names person, or a "name your pets movie and book names" kind of person. I like purpose and reason behind names.

Now that the names have been found and this is chatter, may I move it to General Discussion?

Yes, E, go ahead and move it, thanks! :D

Yeah, Bethy, Emberless is smaller than my thumb, and Sparks isn't quite twice her size, so they are pocket pets, as I refer to them.

Awww! They are so cute! *Begins to wonder if she could get one or two in Kansas...* So, is it better to get a pair, or does a single one do fine? Do they have to stay with you most of the time? What sort of living conditions do they need?

*Really loves Airi's Baby Dragons* :dieshappy: Hurry up and come to Kansas so I can meet them! :dieshappy:

A pair is better, because they are social creatures. If you have a companion for them, they handle separation better. If you pair 2 males together, or 2 females together, they will vie for attention. A male and female get along very well, but you do have to be prepared for possible additions.

Because the dragons are exotic creatures, they need lots of moisture, thus you have to sprits their home with water frequently through the day to keep 80% moisture for them.

*gave the dragons a banana today *

But if they can eat fruit, they must be omnivorous. Can they survive on fruit alone?

They cannot. They eat fruit for extra vitamins when needed. Fruit will not sustain them, at all. It is an additive.

What's it like seeing them eat the crickets? Do they stalk them, or do they wait until a cricket comes by them and then pounce?

Either or, depending on their mood. Emberless does more stalking, but that's just her nature.
