With the arrival of NaNoWriMo, a lot of us are going rather crazy in our quest to write 50,000 words in the month of November. In honor of the "You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when..." thread, here is is a place to post all of the symptoms of NaNoWriMo. ;)

You know you're a crazy NaNo writer when...

• you stayed up until 12am on November 1st just so you could start your NaNo novel.

• you set your voicemail message to:
"Hi, you have reached my phone. I'm currently taking part in the insanity called NaNoWriMo, which means I'm dedicating my November to writing a 50,000 word novel. It might be awhile before I can detach myself from the computer, and when I do I may seem schizophrenic, but go ahead and leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I have regained sanity. *beep*"

• you dressed up as your NaNo MC on Halloween as a way to prepare for November.

• you have posted in this thread. ;)

Well, that's all I have for now (got to get back to the ol' word processing doc) but I can't wait to see what ya'll come up with. ;)

~ Evening

Whoo-hoo! X)

I may have to change mine now :D
Although mine would sound more like:
"Hi. It's November, so I'm probably either writing or hunting. It may be a while before I answer the phone, and I'll probably forget to call you back, but you obviously had a reason for calling, so leave a message and I'll get back to you eventually."

I'd mention being attacked by my characters, but I don't want to appear entirely insane :P

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer...

--If you're already crying over your characters stubborn refusal to do things in a timely fashion.

--Your mother is already worried that your school work will suffer during November. (it might. just a little.)

--You don't eat regular meals anymore. You just snack all day as you type. (guilty as charged. :P )

--You are furious because your speakers are broken and your boombox is skipping and thus you are left music-less and uninspired and bitter and are going to die lonely and frustrated on a broken down cot in a weary, dirty old--er...*grimace* Never mind about that one.

--You are procrastinating terribly by posting on this forum.:D

~ you now bring your laptop with you everywhere and you write on car drives.

~ your dad is ready to kick you out of his office because you are constantly using your keyboard and the 70 clicks per minute is annoying him.

~ your desktop background is your novel's cover-art, or some other NaNo-related graphic.

~ the numbers 50,000 and 1667 recur in your dreams.

~ you were annoyed when you went to a fancy restaurant because your mother would not allow you to whip out your laptop and write while waiting for your food.

You know your a crazy fantasy writer...

-When you want to participate in a NaNoWriMo, but find yourself stuck in a prison called life with schoolwork as your jailer.

-When you wonder if all your school related words and essays will add up to 50,000 words by the end of the month. (I think I'll have to do a word count sometime.)

-When you dream you wrote a 100,000 word story in one month based on ninjas, a burning building, and moldy cheese. (It was a good dream until I got to that last bit.) :P

(This is an imagined one for if I was participating)
-When you have a million ideas all planned out to the ending scene, but get stuck on 500 words and under when you finally start writing.

True!

Also very true. I'm working on a rough draft of a term paper this month so that alone should get me half way there.

Happy NaNoing all you free, young, grasshoppers. ;)

-When November is your busiest month of the year, but you're idiotic enough to do NaNo anyway.

(Not all of us are free grasshoppers. Schoolwork isn't the only jailer on the block. Try "day job." ;) )

*Nods* The "day job" is only half the reason I can't do Nano. The household responsibilities contributes to my inability a lot too.
I may not be a crazy Nano writer, but I am a crazy Nanoer fan! I’m cheering everyone on.

Good idea!

I can identify with this!! Although I wasn't even allowed to bring my laptop. I fell behind that day and had to get up early the next morning to catch up!

-You find your self using as many words as you possibly could in what should be a short sentence but you turn in to a long sentence just because you need to reach your goal and the best way to do that is to make your thoughts as long as possible! (ok, not really. You could make your novel richer or something.)

-Your progress in reading a certain book grinds to a halt.

-You have a conversation like this:

Friend: So what have you been doing recently.

You: [glancing up from notebook] Writing.

Friend: What else?

You: Just writing.

Friend: Don't you sleep or anything?

You: No, just writing.

-You use as little internet as possible because you are worried that on November 25th onward you won't have any megabytes left on your internet plan and won't be able to be whisked away to the winners page! (Gasp!) ;)

That's all I got right now.

You read these: http://www.nanowrimo.org/node/3748387 and find yourself smiling and laughing, because you know they're so true.
If you're in a bad way, check them out. They're the 10 Commandments of NaNo, and hilarious. But thou shall not let them get in the way of your writing!

You know you're a crazy Nanowriter when...

You go to bed after midnight, all November.

You eat a diet of halloween candy, and cheetos, all from the comfort of your keyboard.

You know what it means to get your "Write or Die" on.

You type your words into this and it will eat them, flash the screen red, and yell at you if you don't keep typing in words with rapid regularity. :D

^ I love those things! Is that the one that will play obnoxious music loudly if you stop? That's great to use in the middle of the night, you get the fear of stupid music and your family if you wake them up. :)

You take your computer everywhere you go, even on lunch break, but you can hardly write because you are so sleep deprived.

I've used that during the last 10,000 words for my 50,000 words. It's very nice.
I stayed up till midnight and welcomed Nano into the Eastern time. :D

You know you're a nano fan when you finish all of the 50,000 words on like the 6th day and the 13th day.

• when the days in November are counted according to milestone word counts. (Eg: November 7 = one day past 10k; November 22 = a day to 40k, etc.)

• when you become temporarily myopic from working so hard late into the night.

• when you ⌘+S everything. Google searches. Forum posts. Online games. ⌘+S. Everything, every few words. ⌘+S. (Adapted from a post on the NaNoWriMo forums, it would be CTRL is you're not on a Mac.) ⌘+S.

• when your teacher (who totally supports your insane venture) starts off one of her classes by telling a story that is basically a message for you to get some sleep.

• when you are having a conversation with said teacher, and she tells you that you need to get some rest, and you just blink at her...

• when you think that eleven is a ridiculously early bedtime, and you will never get any writing done if you have to go to bed that early.

• when you carry a thumb drive of the latest backup of your novel just in case your computer blows up while you are out, because losing your novel-in-progress would be the worst thing that ever happened to you.

• when, when you are asked in Sunday school if you have any prayer requests, you ask people to pray that you will finish NaNo on time (and retain some fraction of sanity...)

• when you "type" whenever you are not on your laptop; on the kitchen table, on textbooks, etc. Everywhere.

• when you believe that the most wonderful sight in the world is seeing a vertical blue bar pass a diagonal purple line.

• when this smiley fits your optic state pretty well:

~ you waste precious time finding good/inspirational quotes from the peptalks, create a .DOC of them (with the quotes resized, bolded or italicized to create emphasis) and print it out to put on your bedroom wall...... I did that two years ago.... There are 8,766 hours in a year....

I'd have to agree with Shawn--I do a lot of these too without even NaNoing =D

Wait, normal people DON'T count time in words? Strange...

Nolan- And though I don't understand why this happened, I know that I will when I look back someday, and see how you've brought beauty from ashes, and made me as gold purified through the flames.

Azriel- And who do you think you are, running round leaving scars, collecting your jar of hearts, and tearing love apart? You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul, so don't come back to me. Don't come back at all...

When you dream that all the words in the world are flying around you in a vortex and you do not know how to get out. (I just thought of this)

-When you abbreviate NaNoWriMo to NaNo.
-When you think November's real name is NaNoWriMo.
-When you are proud of your character's flaws.
-When you have four pens and two notebooks in your backpack and two pens and one notepad in your pocket.
-When you set your homepage on the internet as Write or Die.

-When you have three play-lists and two CDs that are titled; writing music.

-If your mother is worried that you will get "too creative" because you are coming up with so much? (what is that supposed to mean?!?)

-If you have moved your refrigerator into your room so you can get food and write at the same time.

-If you fight with fellow nano-ers about who gets the fridge on their side of the room.
