Post subject:  Hi!

Hi, I'm Cheyenne! I love to write fantasy, but because I'm a Christian, I often have dilemmas in what I should or should not write. And also, since Tolkien basically took every epic fantasy idea I could think of and put it in his novels, I wanted to find a place that could provoke my creativity.

About me: I'm weird, I'm a vegetarian, I'm almost sixteen, I'm considered legally blind in most countries, I love the outdoors and I joke about being a "professional hiker", I have been writing since I was ten, I have too much going on in my brain, I have two dogs, I fence (the reason I joined - I am a medieval fantasy nerd, and that was as close as I could get to actual sword-fighting), I am a painter too, and I think that's about it. I'm a born-again Christian too, but I figure that's already implied. xP

Anyhow, nice to "meet" you all. :)

Welcome to HWFantasy, Cheyenne! *sets off fireworks which spell out "Welcome to Holyworlds", then turn into a dragon that spews glitter as it swoops over everyone's heads *

You like to paint? Awesome. You should check out the Arts Guild. There are bunches of fun threads in there for us artist types, and of course we'd love it if you showed us some of your own art. ;)

I read your intro and I have only one thing to say.

You'll fit in nicely around here.

But since I'm here, I'll also say - welcome! Take a cupcake, make yourself at home, and do shout if you have any questions. It's okay if you yell in here - no one will even notice with all the other craziness going on. If you have a specific dilemma you're working through, browse the forums or start a new thread - we can most likely find an answer!

Thanks. And one is a golden retriever named Sandy, the other is an American foxhound-mix named Max. How about yours?

I have two Miniature Schnauzers, Pippin and Bonnie. :) One is black and silver and the other is all black. I'm a dog groomer and I often get Retrievers to groom, they're very sweet and laid back.

Welcome to Holy Worlds!

I hope this doesn't put a damper on things, but you'll soon realize you're surrounded by weir--um, creative people such as yourself. ;)

If you don't mind me asking, what is the extent of your eyesight or lack thereof? Can you still see a little? *wondering since you can obviously be online and reading posts and fencing* I'm just really curious. :D

I love the outdoors too. One of the reasons I was Nature Director at the camp I worked at this summer. Being around nature makes me realize how beautiful our God is and how much there is to learn from it all. It truly amazes me. ^^ I'm not sure what qualifies a person to be a "professional hiker", but I put on quite a few miles over various terrain at camp if that counts. XD

I've never fenced before, but it sounds like a lot of fun.

I really want to learn how to paint! I've never been able to wrap my mind around blending and layering colors, which is why I usually only draw with pen or pencil. I'm hoping to learn watercoloring this fall/winter though.

It's great to meet you as well! I hope you have a fabulous day!

Lol, it's no damper. I had an in depth discussion with my English teacher that it was a basic requirement for people who write to be weir - creative. ;)

Basically, without any glasses/contacts on/in, I can't see anything passed 6 inches away from my face; beyond that it's all fuzzy shapes and color. Though my contacts help me to see much better.

And that's pretty cool. :) I like being in storms, particularly with big, dark, rolling clouds, as it makes me wonder of the power of God. I love hiking through, because I love the smells, sights, and feel of God's creation. My dad and I just went to Bushkills Falls in NJ and we got to see a beautiful forest and see some amazing waterfalls. And I actually don't know what qualifies as a "professional hiker" either lol. I just tell my dad I could be a "professional hiker" and whenver people see me, they'll just be like, "Oh, it's that hobo in the woods." :P

Painting is not too hard. Watercolors is really fun, especially when you learn about all the techniques outside of the brush. So cool :dieshappy: Although it smears easier than the other paints, that's the only thing.
But if you have, say, oils, you just take the basic colors and shapes of the picture and paint them on first. They have no details or anything, but you have the colors that go in the picture and some shapes. Say you're doing mountains. You would have a blue sky, a gray mountain-like shape, and green on the bottom for the valley.
After that, you put in a few more colors that add some detail. Usually these colors are not the ones that stand out most; they are the supporting colors that give the picture definition and such. With the previous example of the mountain, the mountain might have some shadows on it. Since there is a sky, you could get away with making clouds, however far you get in them. Details on the valley could be started, or waited on until details in the back are finished.
Then you would add in the more prominent details until the painting looks real (if you're a realist) or however you want it.

Basically, the layering of a painting is going backwards from what you see in the picture.

And have a good day as well. Nice to meet you. :D

I'm flattered, lol. *shakes hand back*

And mostly the ethics of the meat industry. I have no problem with people killing animals and eating them, but I think it should be done naturally and humanely. So I have no problem with hunting or eating meat or anything like that. :) I'm a vegetarian, not a vegan though. I don't eat animals; vegans don't eat any animal products. I cannot live without my precious milk chocolate, ice cream, pizza, cheese... :P

Post subject:  Re: Hi!

*chuckles * Okay, so you're not really weird at all. :D The meat industry is revolting! (shudders at the images of Tyson Chicken Farms she has seen) We raise and butcher our own animals, so we know what they have been fed, how they have been treated, and that they were killed humanely. We are pretty picky about the meat we ingest as well. :D

*likes you even more, now *

Post subject:  Re: Hi!

Oh wow! I see now! If my eyes were that bad I'd freak out if I couldn't find my glasses. My brother and I are quite fortunate thus far now having glasses. All of my grandparents and great-grandparents have glasses as well as my parents. My brother, two cousins, and myself don't need them...yet anyways. I just have a really low reading glasses prescription because of eyestrain. *the result of reading a LOT* :D

Ooo, neato! My grandpa likes taking my brother and I on hiking trips. I enjoy it. ^^ Haha, "that hobo in the woods!"

That's extremely encouraging! I've used acrylics before, so watercolors seem like another experience in general. So it's like layers when you use GIMP or computer painting program such as MyPaint or Corel Painter? I've pretty much gotten used to those now. It depends on what my mood is when it comes to drawing realistically v.s. artistically.

I used to freak out before I had my contacts, because I can't see my glasses to find them lol.

Yeah, watercolors are almost a whole different world of painting in some ways. And I've never used those programs before, but if it uses layers, than probably.

My mother thought I was insane because we have that song on a CD, and I downloaded the whole CD just to get that song for my iPod. Now my exchange partner thinks I'm nuts too... all because my sisters and I were singing along.

Welcome! We're all wei- creative here.

Nah way, that's an epic song. It would be more insane not to download it or sing along to it. It's like, Junior and Veggie Tales; that says it right there.
