ok, I am preparing to publish my first work: The Legend of Braim. I am hoping to do one more run through before sending it to Dorrance. I need some help with publishing. I am applying to New Hope Christian College, and I will be very busy with Bible classes and Pastoral studies classes, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips for marketing from home? I am already planning to submit it to Amazon in hard copy and ebook forms, but are there any other steps I could take from the college campus (best scenario = little or no travelling) to market and promote my book?

I highly recommend online marketing, as in, a website, etc. Be active on writer's forums (like this one :D) and reading websites like Shelfari. If you can't get well-known IRL due to time constraints, the next best thing is to generally be a well-known member of the writing/reading community online :)

Thanks Eru!

I have a website, and I'll look into Shelfari and some other writer's forums.

Listen to Andrew! He speaks wisely. :D

Online promotion is a great solution. That is primarily what I'm doing with my first book, Red Rain. Social networking is great; get people excited about your book, but don't spam! Your friends, such as those you have from HW, are essential. :D My friends, particularly those from HW, were SO helpful with generating excitement for Red Rain. Naturally the bulk of my initial sales were to friends. :)

A website is very helpful, even just as a place to gather all information about your book. Reviews are also great at generating awareness, so look for ways to have other people review your book on their website or blog. You can try a book trailer on YouTube, blog buttons that your friends can use, and such the like. And for social networking there's no end to the options - Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz...

Thanks Philadelphia!

Yes, I had definitely planned to use all of my friends at HW! Before joining I had thought it would just be a great place to collaborate on my book, but now I'm in I've also seen a few books promoted on here and definitely realized the potential :D

I have friends in several states, and they are all connected to my Facebook. I have thought about Twitter, but I waste enough time on FB already...

Thanks for the input. I will definitely be looking for ways to get my website noticed a bit more.

Hi, Esilis!

Best wishes with publishing and preparation for the ministry!

One thing that occurrs to me is that you give no link to your website in your signature. Place a link there so it's handy. Noticing this about your signature, I realized I'd neglected one for my own. Look below; I just added my link.

The other thing I know is that building interest in your book will be possible only with time, hard work and humility.

God bless you!

Greetings, Lady Pilgrim!

Thanks! I will need all the help I can get with publishing and ministry!

Ok, I think I fixed the missing link problem. I added a theological blog as well onto it, but I haven't done anything with that for several weeks.

Yes, I am anticipating a long period of interest and hype generating. Thanks for your support!

Looks good, Esilis! I know there's a way to hide a link inside of words, but am not sure how to do this.

Will visit your sites!

God bless you!

Here's how you use the URL code...

Type the text you want to hyperlink. Hightlight it, then click the button that says "URL" above the post box. That puts the URL tags around your words. In the front tag, put an equals sign after the word url and then past in the link. It would then look like this:

Code:
[url=http://www.aubreyhansen.com]My bloggie![/url]

Hit submit and voila! Hyperlink! :D
