So, HW is crawling with talented musicians. We have harp players, pianists, violnists, and nose-blowers. I was just wondering how many of us (if any) play percussions. Drums? Shakers? Tambourine? Anyone? I play tambourine, egg shakers, and I'm a beginner at playing the frame drum. Anyone else like to play percussions? |

My dad plays drums...but he's not on HW. Umm...I hit just about everything my hands come in contact with to make tunes using the different sounds and pitches. I don't think that's an instrument, though. |

Haven't heard of it? I have my eye a duombek right now, at: this site It's 40 bucks! Pretty good price! Djembe: Attachment: Djembe.jpg [ 2.26 KiB | Viewed 565 times ] I like this one! I've been thinking on getting one; yes I play it. Cajon: I have a friend at church who has one of these. So simple really. I like the Mienl brand, I have some Meinl hand drums right now; they are pretty good! Attachment: Cajon.jpg [ 2.06 KiB | Viewed 565 times ] Ibo drums, cuica, marching snare, tambora, quinto, cow bell, bass drum, klong yao, botojon, wood block, rain stick, Yamaha and Coda, accoustic and elec... anything at all! Riq: http://www.ethnicmusicalinstruments.com ... rqdrbt.jpg Yeah frame drums can be pretty expensive, but if you put it in perspective they're still cheaper than guitars or pianos. I found my two frame drums on amazon.com. I paid $23.62 for the 12" one and $39.99 for the 22" one. So you can find them cheap if you know where to look Svensteel priest of Kylor wrote: Ibo drums, cuica, marching snare, tambora, quinto, cow bell, bass drum, klong yao, botojon, wood block, rain stick, Yamaha and Coda, accoustic and elec... anything at all! Everything is cheaper than pianos! I say... my goodness at the price of those things! You'd think you were buying a cello or something! Seer wrote: *Must meet Svensteel IRL* Hehe... (That would be cool! If I could only make it to one of those conventions...) |

I haven't checked piano prices, but I'm fairly sure that hammer-dulcimers could give them a run for their money in price. Svensteel priest of Kylor wrote: Hehe... (That would be cool! If I could only make it to one of those conventions...) Yeah. Wish I could make it to one as well.

If there was one in FL, I'd probably be able to go. Unfortunately, I'm only in FL for the summer, then it's back to TN for college. But I think we're drifting off topic now (though not really, since we're talking about percussionists meeting in real life) |

You'd win! I'm still pretty green when it comes to percussions. |

You're going to college in TN? You do realize that I drive to TN every two weeks, right? We could meet sometime. |

So sad. HW has hundreds of members and only two of us play percussions. |

Yeah! Well... there are a couple of people that said they like to bang on stuff and hit things... that counts right? |

Seer wrote: I haven't checked piano prices, but I'm fairly sure that hammer-dulcimers could give them a run for their money in price. I don't know... A Steinway grand piano costs as much as a house. But they are some of the best pianos out there, which means they would also be some of the most expensive. Anywho... I've always thought playing percussion would be fun, but I've never tried it. |

There are musicians that use trash cans as drums. I'd say drumming on things with your hands can count. But that still only brings us up to three. |

Ooh! And timpani! (or kettledrum) I have never played one but I have stood next to someone who played one in an orchastra, it's really cool! Looks pretty easy too! You move a little lever to switch the tones of the drum and hit it! |

It's nice to get to hide behind a piano! But a couple of songs I do are all by myself when I play on sundays! |

Svensteel priest of Kylor wrote: It's nice to get to hide behind a piano! But a couple of songs I do are all by myself when I play on sundays! Yep! I'm not really a performer, so it is very nice to have a piano to hide behind. I play by myself, and people are looking at me... but I can't see them. *would try to add something on-topic, but knows almost nothing about percussion* |
