As many of you saw in the GD thread "This Summer" I will be working two jobs soon.

I will be the Nature Director at a Cub Scout camp, and my hours will be 6:30-7ish AM - 10 PM Tuesday - Sunday at 4 PM. During that time I'll be able to come on HW after 10:00 PM, or during some spare moments during the day. Nonetheless, my posting will be completely erratic. :D

I am also working my usual school year job as a receptionist/cashier/filer/envelope labeler & stuffer/cleaning lady. Overall, I'm an office-girl. On my full day off (Monday) I'll be working from 1- 5 PM.

This is my first time working two high energy jobs at a time, so I'm a little nervous about it, but I have faith the Lord will bring me through this summer still partially sane...or not so sane. ;)

Just thought I'd give everyone a head's up. ^^

~Calen

You poor girl! Drink lots of water, eat lots of food, get lots of sleep, and take good care of yourself, or mark my words! ;) *hugs Calen *

I'm not good at big sisterly stuff, for obvious reasons, but all of what Airianna said sounded good, so do that! :D And hurry back, too :D

@Elanor: Um...no promises on not doing too much. XD I'm in the grown up world now! :P

@Airianna: I will for sure be drinking lots of water and eating lots of food! We (myself in particular) are very adamant about staying hydrated in the hot weather. I see far too many cases of dehydration than I ever want to see. :pale: With all the walking I do, I burn off each meal in a hour and a half and am ready for the next meal! (I tend to keep snacks in my backpack then.) As for sleep, I will be tucking in earlier this year. We finish at 10 PM and take showers right after, so I'll probably be getting to bed around 10:45-11-ish. Although, it depends on when I go to bed the day I have a Staff Bible study.

@Eruheran: Ah yes, but you can say it in a brotherly/friendly way, yes? Thank you! I'll hurry as fast as the days go by!

~

I just got accepted for a Christian teen retreat today, so I'll get to leave camp for four days in July. ^^ Although, being on a team at the retreat is about as intensive as camp staff (or more so because you stay up until midnight+). *must take care of body and mind!*

Well I'm glad to hear you will be taking care of yourself, Calen, and I will be holding you to that!!! ;) *whacks newspaper against her palm for emphasis *

@Indestar: Thanks, Indestar. ^^

Honestly, I think that's the first indirect threat I've received on this forum. *gasp* The gall around here!

@Airianna: You're in on it too?!?!?

*reaffirming her determination to take care of herself for fear of punishment over the internet*

I'm moving into Staff City tonight. :o Actually, I'm not sure whether I'm ready for this or not, but I'll adapt quickly I'm sure. (I should since it's my fifth summer doing this.)

Thank you for the prayers! I survived day one without anxiety or homesickness. ^^ PTL! (Praise the Lord.) I just hope it lasts for the summer. *went home crying 3 times during staff week last year* Haha... *is a big baby* ;)

I'm all settled in my cabin with my roomie now. All we're doing this week is training and preparing for our first camp on Tuesday, I believe. Everyone seems to be getting along well, so that's pleasing to we senior staff members who will most likely not return next year.

@Jonathan: Me too. ;)

@Airianna: Thanks. ^^ Like eruheran mentioned, a majority of the senior staff are A.) recently graduated like myself and yes, most are going to college in the fall and B.) We've all worked at camp for 4-5 years and feel that our staffing season has come to a close.

@Indestar: I see. But have you ever asked, "Do council members have spies for other council member?" One must wonder. :D

@Shawn: Thank you very much, miss Shawn!

Whew! I've spread myself pretty well here in SO&SO, I must say. :D

Thoroughly exhausted, I have off from camp until Wednesday night!

Staff training went really well. I didn't get homesick and only had one minor anxiety attack that I didn't even go home for. (Another staff member went home sick and I feared the worst.) :P

My roommate and I get along...if you call not really talking getting along. We haven't bonded at all. She and two other girls who I've worked with in the past are one exclusive clique this summer. Long story short---I don't fit in with the girls. It's a little disappointing. :P

Ah well. There's another girl who I've known for a few years now (she's also my Nature Assistant) and I get along with her fine. I'm also close to a couple guys that I have worked with for the past 5 years. I'm sure I'll make it through the summer fine either way. I'm hoping it'll be better than last year. ^^

I apologize if it sounded like I was ranting. ><

I feel prepared to present the Forester pin for the Cub Scouts on Thursday, but I have a bit more research to do before I feel comfortably in assisting in teaching the Scientist pin. Lord willing, everything goes well. :D

That's it for my update. I'll be on more frequently until camp starts up again. ^^

Thanks for the update. I hope your short break, and the starting up again of camp, go well. :D

I'm glad you were able to check in with us! We are happy to hear you are still doing well, but will pray for relational barriers. :D

*Grandmother voice* Ach, praying too, Calen dear. *hugs*

And, on that note, be sure to relax and enjoy yourself! Let God spread pleasure through the business of this summer! Find joy in every moment, or at least try for best one out of five! :dieshappy:

Thanks for the prayers everyone. ^^ I think it's another opportunity God has presented me with to be patient and endure. I feel like my endurance has been tested often this year and last year. ;)

Our first camp is Thursday to Sunday! Crazy! Still wrapping up details for the pins I'm working on otherwise I think I'm about set. :D I get to set up the Nature Center tomorrow! (After my office job anyways.)

Well, I survived the first Webelos Overnight. They left today and I started my "weekend".

Overall, I don't have anything to complain about. I think everything went really well, excluding the first day. Things were a little disorganized because we have an unusually large amount of new staff who don't know what camp looks like yet.

PTL (Praise the Lord)! I don't think I'll be as lonely this year as I was last year for sure. :D My roomie and I bonded a little bit more earlier this week. She needed to vent and she didn't know how she was going to teach her Geography pin to the kids in the morning. So I stayed up until 1:30 AM helping her out. It was my pleasure being able to help. ^^

I'm also on better terms (not that I was necessarily on bad terms) with the other two girls. I had a chance to visit with them individually while we were having a pool party with the kids.

Also, teaching the Forester pin has been a breeze. :D It's a lot easier than last year's Naturalist pin.

At this moment I am beyond exhausted, and my cookies are done baking. I'm off to sleep as long and hard as I can before I go to my office job tomorrow afternoon. Then it's disc golf (or frisbee golf) with the family afterwards and back to Staff City!

@Jonathan: Yes, quite! :D

@Airianna: Thank you for your prayers. ^^ I am indeed taking care of myself. I've pulled a few late nighters *cough* 1 AM *cough* but that was because I had to stay up and work on activity pin details with my partners. (Which usually ocurred last minute and the day before we were supposed to teach it...) :P Otherwise, I've been getting adequate sleep and eating well. (Although I skipped hot dogs at lunch today. Bleh. Too many hotdogs a summer! Especially after 5 years of doing this!)

I have off until July 8th, so my presence will be more frequent this week. :D

Glad to know I'm not the only one who can't stomach one of America's icon foods.

I think it's nice to be on more as well. ^^

Yay! Calen! *hugs * I like all beef hotdogs (consequently, I'd be in trouble if I ate the other kind), however, I'm with you in that I don't like too many, too often.

I'm glad to hear you are being good. I won't comment on the late night stuff, since 4 HW members kicked me out of chat last night for my supposed naughtiness. I must practice what I preach, I suppose. :P

Are you staying plenty cool out there in the cabins and woods?

@Elanor: Ah, can you see me making more tracks around the forum lately? ;D

@Airianna: *gasp* That's really late! Even on sleepovers I find it rare for me to stay up. XD

I wouldn't say I'm keeping cool. Our last day before vacation (Thursday) it was nearly 100 degrees. I praise the Lord for the wind we had or it would have been a black flag day. (Black flag is when the heat index is 105 degrees and everyone in camp must go in the pool to cool off.) My cabin stays moderately comfortable for the most part. It's either humid and cold in there. My roomie, Katherine, sleeps with a fan on high so it can get a bit...chilled some nights. *layers* :D

I've attached a link of my summer lodgings. ^^

Update:

Hellooo! Summer camp may be ending early due to lack of registration for next week's camps. So I may be finished on Thursday or somewhere in that timeframe. I'll know officially tomorrow. Yay, I'll have some time to come on HW, aw, because having low registration is bad for us at camp... :?

We'll see how things play out. Until next time!

Yesterday was my official last day of summer camp with Cub Scouts! I'm not officially back because I'm helping out the American Heritage Girls who are having their camp Monday - Friday. On August 14th we are going up north (more north than I am already ;) ) for our family reunion until the following Friday that week.

So I may be popping on more. ^^
