Hello all. My name is Sam Starrett, also known online as Marshlord and LordoftheMarsh. Lately I've primarily been using my real name. I'm a Christian fantasy writer(you can read some of my stuff at my blog here: http://samstarrett.wordpress.com) as well as an amateur theologian, a Christian Universalist, and a political reactionary with a preference for monarchy. I enjoy debate(Proverbs 27:17). My avatar, almost without exception, is Socrates(though I guess I'll have to make an exception here as human faces aren't allowed, right? A strange rule, but that's the owner's prerogative). I found out about this site from the member known as Esílis. I am pro-Crusades, pro-Christendom, pro-chivalry, anti-abortion, anti-feminism, and pretty strongly anti-Islam. I admire the strong Christians of history, men like Charles Martel. Those guys had guts. I despise the sissification which the Church has suffered since their time. I am currently working on a fantasy novel set in an alternate world with approximately mid-19th century technology and a bit of a Weird Western feel, though I don't follow the tropes of the Western genre too closely. So that's my introduction. I hope my arrival won't cause too many people to leave. |

Western fantasy is a cool subgenre. Thanks. I'm not sure quite how Western it will wind up being, as it's an alternate world and the last humans to arrive did so in the Renaissance. I know the hero goes west, I know the tech is at 19th-century levels, and I know there's a Wild West-style desert frontier, but politically, the landscape is quite different(the sequence of events starting with the American Revolution and leading through the French Revolution to World War I that destroyed old-order monarchical Europe have no equivalent in my world, Tolondra). So there's actually a King of Occida(the Western continent, roughly equivalent to North America), though his power is pretty weak if you go as far west as my hero will. |

Oh, well, it depends on which admin. Emeth doesn't do it unless he's being very silly. (it was he that did it to me this time) Ines up there greatly enjoys doing it to people, and has been known to do it almost randomly. Hannah, on the other hand, thinks everyone's names should stay the same for the duration of their time on the forum. Hannah's not much fun. * grabs one of her little sister's tacos* |

Sam, sir, it is good to have you. I think you will find plenty of God-fearing Christian writers on this forum that would be edified by exchanging thoughts with you. We welcome thought-provoking posts around here. The forum team's philosophy is that "debate" is edifying when undertaken in good spirit, which you seem to have. May God bless your time here. But, I will warn you - few people on here are serious 100% of the time. Especially in an intro thread! So have a cupcake, settle in, and I look forward to seeing more of your posts! |

A little modly insert here... As anyone who has survived Holy Worlds for more than a week will tell you, we're an encouraging community that welcomes anyone who proclaims the name of Christ in sincerity, regardless of church background, writing skill, political views, etc. It is the goal of the forum team to ensure that Holy Worlds is a place where members can voice their differing opinions - even debating over them - for the edification of others, without malice and hurt feelings. It is amazing how beneficial a contrary opinion can be when presented in good spirit. Holy Worlds is a place for that, and the forum team spends hours reading every single post to ensure that spirit stays in place. Never would we allow the neighborhood to "go," not even in one thread. If you want to ruin this forum, you will do it over Jay's dead body with his forum team spread around him in glorious array. Until you kill us all, the forum team will do everything to make Holy Worlds a place where every member - every member! - can find home. Yes, I'm getting dramatic, but I speak the truth. My point is - the neighborhood isn't going anywhere, and neither are our beloved members. While some humor is fine, let's not see the party turn into a rain shower that puts riffs between members or even gives them the wrong impression. Thanks, guys. |

"There goes the neighborhood" is just a little self-deprecating humor. In fact, I hope to contribute something edifying more often than not. A side note: I have a tendency to be rather sarcastic. This is usually taken well in person, but online, it's harder to tell. While I'll do my best to tone it down in light of that, if you do see me say something that causes you at first blush to take offense, please bring it to my attention before you get any hurt feelings. In all probability it was meant in good fun and the grin on my face was lost in the typing. |

(I just got in trouble with Jonathan for doing it just the other day. It wasn't anything you said that inspired me to post that modly note. It was the jokes about people leaving - and a post that sounded honestly hurt - that disconcerted the mod in me. Snark is good, but joking about people packing up and leaving doesn't encourage friendships with the newbie. |
