Does it matter whether you read hardbacks or paperbacks? Those have very different page sizes.

Anyway, this sounds fun. I haven't done a lot of reading lately, so it'll be fun to have some motivation to read more.

Nope. We're just going by whatever the page number is, regardless of edition. Theoretically it'll average out...

Yaaay! :D

I have a question. How do you participate? I mean, I'm signed up on HWF (obviously ;) ) but I wasn't sure if you have to register on the site or just post here or what.

ETA: Oh, I see that signups start June 1. :D

Yes, Elly. Signups will start on June 1st. There will basically be a thread created where people can voice their participation in the contest on these forums.

Neither do I. (Though I have a ton of things I SHOULD read.) But these things are good at making people read more than usual. ;)

A reading list... that sounds intelligent. Maybe I should do that instead of randomly hunting for something to read all the time. :D

Well, I've only started... some I'm sure I probably won't find at my library. (Like old books.)

Ooh, I'm looking forward to this too! Can I use my Kindle? I think it has the page number on the different pages, can't remember now though!

My reading list isn't long in and of itself, but most of the books on it are long (or come in multiples). Redwall, LoTR, Riddle-Master, Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, Eragon, the annual rereads of my favorite Burnett books, and I know I'm forgetting a few things... plus I have this crazy idea to work through all the books I got at the last library book sale. Found a ton of YA novels last time.

I'm sure I won't get to even 1/4 of that... I read slowly. This program doesn't help me read any faster, but it encourages me to spend more time plugging away at it. :D

Well... I don't have what you might call a strict reading list. I have lots of rereads though (stuff I read over five years ago). And I have a personal library of over 3000 books in our house, so I won't run short on pages. * grins *

I have at least 450 books, but I've read most of them. :D I have a library about five minutes from my house and one about thirty minutes away from my house. (The one farther away is the headquarters for my area.) :D

Since nonfiction counts (yay!), I'll be reading lots of animal books. My library has an awesome selection of horse books. :D It'll be especially awesome when I get to ride Jasper again (my cousin's horse)...

You guys are getting me really excited! =)

Oh, and does anyone know how to tell how many pages I've read in a Kindle book? :S The classics I've been reading don't seem to have page numbers.

@Elly and Philli: Awesome :D My reading list has some of those books as well.

A lot of the books I'm planning on reading are longer though, so it takes me a while to get through them. I think I've been reading Emma for two or three weeks now, and I'm only about 57% of the way through. Oh, if only I still read an entire book in a single afternoon XD

@Jay: My goodness O.o We have a lot, but most of them are ones I read when I was younger (sadly I've yet to interest my siblings in reading). I have less than 50 books on my shelf, plus however many classics are on the Kindle at the moment.

I'm hoping I finally get a chance to go to the library soon. There's some Ted Dekker books I want to read (or reread, mostly).

This sounds like fun! I don't like lists, I always end up skipping around on my list and getting things all mixed up. I'll just go with the flow.

I will probably be doing this, though I don't have time for much. My reading list of books that I own consists of about ten books; otherwise my reading list is almost nearing one hundred. Alas, I do not own many books I would like to =(

I have over twenty books on my list... many of which are several hundred pages long and at least one that is over 1000. ;)

In just eight of my must-read books, they are all 135+ pages and total over 2150 pages. :D My longest out of those eight is. . . *checks* 540 pages. :D (Of course, it's a collection of other smaller books.)

I must confess, I'm not waiting until June 13th to begin mine; I'm starting with Homer's Odyssey. It's hard to believe students in ancient days memorized all three-hundred-something pages in it! And I've also got several other long ones. But for me, I'm trying to make content far more important than page count.

I think my main struggle won't be with reading; rather, with keeping track of everything!

By the way, I thought I'd add {since it's vaguely related}, that when I read books, I first count the chapters or sections and determine how many to read each time I sit down with that book. It's extremely helpful to determine how long it'll truly take to get through the book.

So when does this offically start? Cause I've already almost finished an entire book in the past two days and I'm really trying to hold back on my reading for this to start.

June 13th is when it officially starts. :D

Everyone has that problem, I think. You should have heard Jay in chat on his birthday.

"But that's two weeks!"

Yes we are! 'Cause otherwise I won't pace myself with the book and it'll either drag out forever or never get finished...

I should make a list so I can decide which book is first. Hard to set goals for finishing a book if you don't know which one you're reading...

Just as a heads up... God has opened the floodgates and showered us - literally! - with generous prize donations. We have a ton in store, and that means we need to kick participation up a notch. We need more people in on this! We'll need to promote like the crazy authors that we are, and we'll need your help with that! More details forthcoming, but in the meantime, spread the word - however you can! :D

I can't help but find this comment slightly amusing. You seem like you're eager to get it over with...before we start!
