Post subject:  Dream Careers and Goals

Everyone always has a job that they want to do at some point or another, be it spy, astronaut, cowboy, or garbage-man. How many people actually get to achieve those though? Probably not many, except perhaps the garbage-man.

What is your dream career? What job do you actually do? If you could, would you change anything?

P.S. The choice author is a given, but you can say what you wish to happen there as well.

--------

I've had lots of careers that I've wanted to be. I've dropped cowboy because of too much horse-back riding. I've dropped astronaut because of all the math involved. :'(

Currently, I hope on being an underwater archaeologist, writer for National Geographic, and extreme sportsman. Eventually, I plan on summiting Mt. Everest.

For writing, the biggest goal is to write something for the SW universe that's canon.

What about you?

Post subject:  Re: Dream Careers and Goals

I have a really diverse areas that I am interested in at the moment... I've worn many other prospective hats as well. Ballerina, astronaut, hairdresser, detective, gymnast... The list goes on. :P

I am currently enlisted as the resident Lieutenant on a submarine that may or may not be built yet, a marine biologist, a writer ( :P ), and an analyst/cryptoanalyst for the NSA.

Another espionage worker? We must be secretive... ;)
The submarine job sounds cool, and reminds me of another job of mine. I'm currently one of the four rulers of the Republic(Used vaguely, more of an oligarchical republic) of Mehetia, an island that the four of us still need to buy with our allowance money.

Ooh, detective. I'd forgotten to put that on my list.

Pastors and missionaries are legit. That's really sweet.

In the realm of actual possibility, I see myself hopefully becoming some kind of biological researcher in a lab somewhere. Less likely - I hope to cure Huntington's Chorea sometime in my career.

In terms of dream jobs, I'd like to write a few successful books so that I could be supported only on novel writing.. and then perhaps blogging, a la Hyperbole and a Half. And then I'd wake up at 11 every day and eat poptarts in my pajamas and write things for a few hours before retiring for the day.

Big aspirations.

Post subject:  Re: Dream Careers and Goals

Actually, BC, your dream job is an idealized version of my school-day. A biological researcher is a cool career, I don't think many people think of that.

Nothing wrong with being a pastor or a missionary, Inesdar.

Hmmmm......I would have to say that I just want to be a Mom, of course not just any mom, a mom of twelve boys! That would be my dream.
Also I am through to beauty school next year so I have some type of skill I can work from home and do...Oh and did I say wife (which is a job in itself), yes that shall come before all the little boys!

My greatest aspiration in life is to be a faithful wife and loving mother to as many children as God sees fit to give me. During my spare time, I hope to continue writing.

Bye the way, Inesdar, I admire your longing to be a pastor or missionary someday. That's a very worthwhile and God-honoring job to have - not that I'm saying other jobs aren't. :D

Best Scenario: I get really gold at piano and become a concert pianist or something of the sort. ;) *coughunrealisticmecough*

Realistic and sort of good scenario: I get a degree in NICU nursing and become a NICU nurse. Pretty simple.

I laughed. 'Nough said.

Ultimate Goal:

I'd like to be a wife and stay-at-home mom where I can home-school my kids. (Wouldn't be surprise if I pass on my dyslexia like it was to my brother and I.)

My dream of being a stay-at-home mom is not out of obligation or that I look at it as the sole reason of my being, but I've really appreciate what my dad has done to keep my mom at home with Caldera and myself. I'd like my own children to have that opportunity as well. ^^

I've had several dreams in the past as well.

Ballerina - I'm too clumsy. :P

Waitress - Ehh, if I have to, I suppose. I just wanted to learn how to balance six plates on my arms. :D

Movie Star/Singer - I'm film shy and don't have a trained voice for singing. (Not to mention I'm too self-conscious.)

Teacher - I can do that if I home-school!

Blond and blue eyed - Yeah, that didn't happen, and it never will.

Veterinarian - I'm squeamish, so that's out. (And I realize I prefer some animals over others...)

Massage Therapist (as of last May) - Although I have an extreme passion for it, I have tendonitis and loose ligaments in my arms. I would only do myself harm in that field of work. :'(

Graphic Designer/Graphic Arts - At the school I'm looking at it requires a Math Concepts class which has Geometry. Since I have dyscalculia, I will not pay for a class I will fail, so that's out too.

In the end, I am taking the year off to seek what God wants me to do before heading to the local community college. (Breaking tradition, I know.) I'm going to look for another part time job in the fall (two parts make a whole, right?) and then I'll be taking Community Ed classes to explore other career opportunities. I may also take one class at the community college from January to June to get a feel for the school. Then I'll enroll in September 2012, Lord willing. ^^

(I'm paying for my schooling so I want to avoid debt at all costs.)

That's a lot of good careers here. I would consider going to a community college, but none offer majors in underwater archaeology, so I plan on going to a university in Australia to study it.

Missionary's a good goal.

Post subject:  Re: Dream Careers and Goals

I used to want to be a teacher, animator, archeologist (that was before I realized dead things really weren't all that cool), rancher, zookeeper, and an artist.

I was definitely an overachiever. Now there's nothing I want more than being a writer and perhaps illustrator. Someday I'd like to be a stay at home mom and perhaps get the chance to adopt a few kids. But right now... I'm happy being me. :D

I've always wanted to be an author. A very well known author who has published many books and poetry collections. :D

I have also had ideas to be a veterinarian, pediatric nurse, or data entry typist.

Plus, I want to be a wife and mother. :D

Post subject:  Re: Dream Careers and Goals

I want to be an Assistant Director in Independent Film, eventually moving up to Producer. (And I want to option the producing rights to Lady E's book... but that's another "unrealistic me" moment. )

I'd love to dance, but never learned. I'd love to be a singer/actress but I decided against that a long time ago because film or stage you have to be willing to do anything. And even though there are parts I can do that wouldn't compromise my values no one likes picky actors. I decided against being a professional musician because I don't have the patience to practice that much. I am tossing around the idea of majoring in Musical Composition though...

And, of course, there's always writing.

Varon: A data entry typist enters information like addresses, personal names, names of businesses, etc., into a computer and does typing. But I decided against it because now most everything is electronically entered into a computer, not typed.

Haha, Varon, that's my life's motto. :D

Quote:
Don’t you sit and mope
Don’t you ever doubt
That you can be anything you want to be

I believe in you
And you must believe too
That you can do anything you want to do

There’s a whole other world
That’s waiting to be found
It all belongs to you
If you’ll only look around

And I believe that your dreams can come true
I’ll be waiting there for you
I’ll be watching all you do
I’ll be dreaming of the day
When you finally find your way
And you become all you were meant to be

Don’t you lose your head
Don’t you ever dread
That you cannot do what you want to do

Your life belongs to you
There’s nothing you can’t do
If you only know what you want to be

You can be if you dare
That’s all the reason why
The castle’s in the air
And you must learn to fly

And I believe that your dreams can come true
I’ll be waiting there for you
I’ll be watching all you do
I’ll be dreaming of the day
When you finally find your way
And you become all you were meant to be

I've wanted to be a lot of things - a farrier, a farmer, a violinist, an FBI agent, a Luither, a dog breeder, etc. As for now - a wife and mother, a teacher, a writer of children/tween's books, a musician/composer etc. And I'm sure (uh, positive) that that will change. And I'll probably never write a famous book, maybe just one that through it some kid out there will spend their time profitably.
My Sunday-school teacher (who is my older brother) taught just today on Dreams/Hopes. What with all the graduations, its on people's minds, right? He was teaching how we need to keep our eyes on Christ, and He will draw our life together. This world is an unreliable, ugly place, and we won't always be able to fulfill our dreams. We may be smart, diligent - and it may not work out. That's why we must have a purpose beyond our dreams. Man is a shadow, a passing breath, a vapor, "but the substance is of Christ."
Yeah, I have a wise brother.

Then there's the inevitable published author fantasy. Seriously though, I'll probably be a missionary in one of two places. :)
