It occurred to me after reading the Gaming thread and seeing everyone recalling fond memories about swordfighting, that we have no thread just about swordfighting. :D

I used to duel Dieki on a regular basis with our foam-wrapped pipe lightsaber style swords. We used to use wood, but after one of us received a real wound, mum decided plastic and foam was much much safer. So boring, eh? XD Anyhow, I haven't sword-fought in essentially two months because I'm still waiting for my hand to heal. :P But Dieki beware, when I can fight again, you. are. finished.

On that note, have any of you guys ever swordfought anyone? :D What did you use? Sticks? Broom handles? Pipe? Or even  real (as in, metal, sharp & poky, etc) swords?

Dad made us our own sword and shield out of wood. :dieshappy: So we all used to play fight with them. Was so fun, haha.

I used to sword-fight my older brother with plastic light-sabers we got from the store! But then we ordered some special high-impact training hand and a half swords! They hurt though...

Manda, what did happen to your hand? Did it get broke?

@Elanor - You speak in the past tense... do you not do it anymore? :(

@Namor - I want to get some swords like those. Or those LARP swords that are battle worthy. Problem being, of course, the price... and that mum wouldn't want us getting hurt and make us wrap them in foam or something.

@Carliss- Yah, we think so. But since we didn't get it x-rayed or anything, so nothing's for certain. (except for that it still hurts enough when I swordfight that I don't really want to do it) (other than that, though, the pain is just an annoyance and nothing more, which I'm very glad for. :D )

@Bethy - Sure it is! A tornado is air isn't it? XD (for the most part, at least)

My brother and I just used good old fashioned branches. ;) They looked pretty nice when we whittled all the bark off of them.

Alas, I haven't sword fought since I was 12 or 13. No one else sword fought with Caldera and I after a while, and we eventually grew apart as I quickly matured.

*raises hand* I have a set of PVC training swords! They do hurt, though! One of the most prone areas to hit are the hands. I had a very sore finger for a while. :x

Unfortunately, I haven't used them in quite a while, since there's no one out in the middle of nowhere with me to spar with, except a boy who has a crush on me. :P

Though, in the last week I've received an offer from someone to train with him, doing stances and moves out of a book and such, so I'm hoping to get better as that progresses!

I do fight with company once in a while. I told one guy he fought like a windshield wiper; luckily though he didn't seem to mind.

When we were a lot younger, Arien had these two little plastic hockey sticks. We used to swordfight with them occasionally. :D Then when he was fighting with our younger brother, one of the sticks cracked, so we stopped using them. I haven't really tried to swordfight anyone in years.

@Manda, sadly I do not sword fight anymore. We gave our swords and shields to two young boys recently. :dieshappy:

Ah! Swordfighting! We use boffers, which is a pvc tube covered in foam and then coated in duct-tape. We bought some thick rubber tube and added that on as a guard to keep the hands from getting hit.

Here's a tutorial on how to make one:

http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Boffer-%28Foam-Sword%29

BUT ... if you're interested in watching some very realistic sword fighting to get ideas for novels, I suggest you check this out. My daughter, Adele, found this, along with other resources. It is downright scary how fast these guys can "kill" one another. Note that the guards are absolutely critical to defend and attack simultaneously:

I've fought with plastic light-sabers, home-made PVC swords wrapped in duct tape (I got a jammed knuckle with those) and currently, the Nerf swords made of foam.

That's how we make ours - except with no guard and a whole bunch more duct tape. XD I didn't know that they had a real name. We always intended to add crossguards, but it just never happened... so our hands end up getting smashed at least a couple times a duel. (I've gotten used to it, though. :D )

We've had a play war with our friends before. We used pvc pipe coated in foam and duct tape, with...wire...as a hand guard...although some of the swords lacked even that...It was fun, though! We ought to do it more often so as to attain more skill. :D

Ooh, ooh, swordfighting!! *raises hand and jumps around like mexican jumping bean*

Well, to keep things short and to the point {beware the lame pun! }, I'll just say my younger brother did fencing for a couple of years, and I managed to learn some "proper" techniques off of him. Other than that, I've dueled with stick and branch, plastic tube, and so forth.

Oh, and once, when the house was entirely empty, and I was cooking dinner and got bored, I swung around some kitchen knives. For fun. *entirely coincidental that I was trying to attain the perfect Eowyn move*

Ok I'll go ahead and put out my two favorite characters :dieshappy:
One I have been forming and has been in and out of many books (With different names of course, but the character is still the same :dieshappy: )

The other is in my latest book and I think might yield a challenge for a
"small lass "such as thyself (Oh yeah... I used the word thy ;) )

First: Michael Black (The thieving con who has not a problem with taking candy from babies. He still remains a nice status and remains a... "good character" kind of person. He's kinda edgy though. Ehh... edgy and rude for witty and good-looking. he doesn't try to be evil... it's his occupation! He was born with his smooth tongue, sharp mind, agile body, and quick hands... He was born to be a con :dieshappy: )

Whoops... there goes the rambling. I just like Michael. I have discovered he has kinda became a part of me (not always a good thing)
PS. He has a British accent... warning.

Your next choice is... my last name! (fake)
Svensteel!
Born to be the son of the lord of gods: Svenwul-diecon. Has special capabilities in being in the direct line of the gods. Later on saves Sorrven.

Your choice!

And which little lady will I be battling? unless we are fighting eachother  uh oh... I'm scared... and toast; mince meat; chopped liver. Did I give those character summaries for nothing? Can we fight characters? I'd be dead against you... (*turns away so Faith can't see her laughing*)

Ooh, sword-fighting :D I've only sparred a few times, with some of my friends and Elanhil. We use bamboo, which is OK for a few spars. We made four swords; the swords which weren't coated in duct-tape splintered after the first few blows. The thin duct-tape coated sword broke into three pieces :P And then my fat, ugly, duct-tape coated sword survived without a crack or splinter :D It's the only one of the three still usable.

We cut pieces of bamboo about a half-inch thick, and stripped them of branches, etc. Then we bored a hole about two hands up from the pommel, and slid in a thinner bamboo piece for the cross-guard. Then you wrap the whole thing in duct tape :D They only take about an hour to make (albeit a lot of tape) so maybe we'll make disposable ones :D

When my brothers and I were younger we would use toy lightsabers and plastic wiffle ball bats and just go at it . We would be covered from head to toe with welts and cuts when it was all over. We loved it. Parents, eh, not so much.

Yeah one time I tried hitting my brother with a real sword in the head... he spent the three months after that in the hospital! Not the best idea for a birthday present for me...

(P.S. That was a joke)
