Hello! I go by Phylis Patschske, and I just joined. About me: I'm a bookworm ;), and I like animals, people, apologetics, music, drawing, etc.
I heard about Holyworlds from a friend, and it sounded interesting since I've always thought out stories/books/poetry in my head. And as just a get to know you question: what is important to you in your books?
Thanks!
Phylis

Welcome Phylis! What a pretty name, by the way. :D I hope you have an awesome time here with all us nutty authors! I love music and drawing too.

As to your question, what is important in my books is that my storyline is complete, so that the reader doesn't feel like there is any more, or any less. This can sometimes give me writers block. But I will eventually get them finished! :D

Welcome to the realm! We are all crazy here, some just more crazy than others.

Important in my writing: To keep the reader guessing, to get carried away with the descriptions, and to make it seem like I am describing something that actually exists, no matter how far fetched it is. DETAILS DETAILS DETAILS MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahahah!!!

Welcome, Phylis! I hope the slight crazy fantasy writerness of Holy Worlds won't push you away. We are, in fact, quite welcoming once you get the hang of it. ;) I would know, I was a newbie a few months ago. Anyways, I don't need to be telling you these things, odds are you'll have a few PMs telling you them again. :D Just thought I'd say that you should feel free to act entirely random here, somebody will always be more random than you, therefore making your randomness seem...less random. Well, that was my welcoming rant. Now for my welcoming craziness.

*throws tacos in the air* =P As has been previously noted, the exits are on the left and right of the thread...but don't worry we have locked and barred them to keep anyone from accidentally tumbling out of them.

As for your question. The most important thing to me in my books is the development of the main characters. A book can have an awesome storyline, writing style, and invented fantasy world, but, in my opinion, the main characters carry the book on their backs. :D

Hello Phylis! I'm new myself. *looks at other longer standing members* Am I supposed to throw something?? Leaves. I'll throw leaves. Nice and green.

Important to me in a story? Hmm. I like to have a well rounded story. Characters I can identify with, I like thoughts and feelings from them, I like action (not just for action's sake, but to propell the plot), and I like plots to not have any obvious holes in them. Descriptions can carry me away in a poetic sort of way, but I don't need over-description. A word here and there can suggest and remind, and a paragraph here and there can set up a scene or introduce someone new.

....That is getting kind of long, so I'd better stop.

Hey, Phylis! To welcome you to Holy Worlds, I have baked some muffins for you. They are Oatmeal muffins. *offers a box, filled with the golden goodness*

I think what is most important to me, in a book, is that I really care about the characters. That means I have to be able to relate to them, in some way.
I also want to be so sucked in by the book, that my brow gets furrowed, my heart speeds up, and I lose all sense of what's going on around me.

But I still haven't figured out exactly what makes that happen.

Since I didn't have time to get to this earlier (I left for supper)...

The important things in my books are excellent writing and descriptions; a captivating, believable, and surprising story; strong characterizations; and a powerful theme or message.

Nice to see someone else who likes animals. :D Do you have a favorite animal or favorite animals?

Welcome to HW. Prepare for a "The Intro Thread Experience"
and whatever you do, do not question the glitter. Those who do often wind up chained to dragons or doors... sometimes for a very long time

Welcome, welcome, welcome! Sounds like you came to the right place. :D We have plenty of resources for writers and artists, so poke around and join in! Random is culturally acceptable around here.

Yes, glitter is the typical thing to throw - though a few other members have their specialties, like tacos and rose petals. I never throw anything - I just bring cupcakes! :D Do take one. :)

Where did you get your username? Is it your real name or a book character or...? I'm eager to see what happens when you get dubbed with a nickname. (It's inevitable, just to warn you.) With two Phil/Phyl's in the area, this should be fun.

Welcome to Holy Worlds, Phylis! I share some of the same love you do: animals, people, music, and drawing. :D

As for your question: I think well developed characters are extremely impotant in any of my stories. ^^

Oh my, I am so behind!

Welcome, Phylis! We are so happy to have you. With the multiple interests you listed, I know you will fit in well around here.

As a note of warning, these intro threads can get kind of crazy. However, what you really want to do is wait around for George the dragon. Don't leave the party till he has come. It is always well worth the wait!

Phylis

I tend to work on them in my head also. But I still have swelling folders of notes, scenes, and... just and.
(I am INTP personality type)

Most important in my stories.
I did not exactly choose this- my stories are very inspiration based- but my stories must be as real as a boring day, and as interesting as a gun pressed between your eyes.

I like to walk around in tight circles, and play π on the piano.
Feel free to be random... but feel free to be something else if you want: you can be Noble, Mysterious, Enigmatic, or Plain Samwise Gamgee From the Shire, or Anything Else.

I realized I forgot to answer your question, Phylis. The glitter distracted me, I'm sure. :P Right now I am currently focusing on plot in my stories. As of late I've had good success with short works, but some difficultly planning long works. So I am learning about structure and striving to get some long WIPs finished.

Welcome, Phylis! Nice to have you here! *throws popcorn to join the leaves, tacos, and glitter* Have fun! You know, popcorn is a pretty boring thing to throw.... I'm going to have to put my lazy brain to work and think up something better and more interesting..... *throws popcorn and pomegranates and pears and pancakes and potatoes and....and.....* Aw, nuts..... I need to put this thing to work more often so it doesn't give out so soon... I was aiming for an impressive list....

I got Phylis from "The Railroad Children" and Patschke (German) is my Mom's maiden name.
