Hey, lovelies. As some of you (aka, those who were there to experience my crazy CAPSLOCK ramblings) know, I'm seriously considering spending a year studying abroad (I'm leaning very far towards Denmark). And I'm super excited. But, there's the little fact that it's loads of money. And I'm a very poor teenager. So, I'm wondering if you guys have any brilliant fundraising ideas, perhaps a bit more original than the classic pasta dinner. What type of thing would you guys go to? What would you guys buy? How much money would you guys be willing to fork out on one thing? Would you guys go for more of a classical approach (cookies, pasta dinner), or something a bit more insane? Do you think there's any sort of fantasy/medieval type thing that I could do that would actually take in money, but also be loads of fun? Oh, and if anyone's been to Denmark or lives there I'd love to talk to you. Thanks, all! |

If you know any phenomenal cooks and bakers dessert auctions are great. People blow a quick 60 bucks if they know the stuff is good. It all depends on your area though. |

My sister and I knitted stuff - dishcloths, hats, scarves, and the like - and sold it for a missions fundraiser to great success. So handmade items is one thing. If you have a service that you can offer, you can raise money that way, too, though it would be a longer-term commitment. (I'm thinking along the lines of music or art classes.) I tend to be of the "make things and sell them" mentality rather than the "host a fundraising dinner" one. Here's a tip: relatives are a great market. I hope that was some help. |

Thanks for everything so far! If you guys could pray for me, too, that'd be much appreciated; that I remember what all's important throughout all this and am able to actually raise the money whilst staying somewhat sane and not neglecting school. Also, any advice on how to convince Mummy? My dad'll probably be totally cool with it, but my mom will probably be scared and sad about letting her 'baby' go abroad for a whole year. Also, this is far off, but please also be praying for my future host family, that we get along and are able to really learn from each other. Also, that I get placed in a pretty area, preferably with forests. Denmark is so small it'll be easy to get places, but it'd just be so much fun to wake up every day in some place really pretty. Oh, also that when/if I do go my family stays alright. Sometimes my mom and brother fight a lot, and at times it makes my dad really sad. My dad and I have always been super close, and at times I'm all that cheers him up. So just pray for my dad, and my mom and brother, too. Ohhh, and that I can learn Danish well, so that when I go I can actually make really meaningful friendships. I'm so looking forward to that. Thanks, all! |
