The books in the Dragon King Trilogy by Stephen R. Lawhead are:
Book One: In the Hall of the Dragon King Book Two: The Warlords of Nin Book Three: The Sword and the Flame
I enjoyed this series, but I also have mixed feelings about it. It is well written and interesting, with the flaw being that the villains are occasionally cartoonish, and this takes away some of the suspense.
Have you read this series? If so, what did you think of it?

I haven't read them yet, but they are sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. So I will be interested in this thread.

I've read the series through once; meant to go back but have been busy.
My biggest complaint was a couple scenes in which the violence crossed the line I set up for safety, and therefore I pulled my imagination back out of it. This affected the rest of the book because I didn't trust the book enough to allow myself to get 'into' the story.
It seems from my recollection that I thought some of the characters were flat... or maybe just some scenes dragged on for a long time... I don't remember. I just remember that writing-wise it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. <smile>

The Dragon King Trilogy is written in an old-fashioned, storytelling type way, which does create a bit of distance with the characters. I personally liked it being written this way, since it's different than the modern style of writing without feeling archaic. It actually reminded me a little of how the Redwall books are written.
