See, I have a lost quote. I can't remember what it's from. Can you help?

If you have other lost quotes, post them here.

That's all I can remember. I think it was used once in a conversation between a father and son, and the son wanted to marry a girl who was probably controversial, but that's all I remember. It was a running theme.

I want to say it's Dekker, but I don't think so. Dekker's running theme was "Follow your heart," and I just don't see this fitting in. And it doesn't match the mental picture I have of a father telling it to his son.

Never heard that before...
Did C.S Lewis do this one?

Is that what it is, or did I change some words?

@Vanya: Actually, Davy Crockett said that Jaynin. But the words of the quote are correct.

@ Elanhil: Actually, the quote is
Quote:
The trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

And yes Elanhil, it was Lewis.

And I believe that was from the Lost Battle, and talking about the dwarves refusing to see Aslan. :D

No, that was actually in the Magician's Nephew when Uncle Andrew tells himself the lion is only roaring.

The dwarf quote is something along the lines of: They are so afraid of being taken in that they will not allow themselves to be taken out.

Yes, that's what I mean, Aiva.:D

I thought he used something similar to that effect when talking about the dwarves though, as well...OOOOOH! Wait. No. That as about "Being taken in" not "making yourself stupider"

Opposite problem. :D Being smart and trying to be stupid, or being stupid and thinking you're smart. ;)

Davy Crockett? Really? But I just read it! Recently! and I've never, ever... wait a second...

Doesn't make sense...

That is the only person I know who said that. However, someone else could have said it too. It is a loose enough quote that it could have been said by multiple different people, I suppose. But yes, Davy did say that.

I can't think of any quotes...but I do remember Davy Crockett saying something like that, in the Disney movie. ;)
