Ah, there's not much explaining to do about my user name. Mainly it was from looking through the directory to our home-school co-op. I noticed someone who spelled the name "Robin" with a "y" and thought that was pretty neat. Then I noticed someone else with a last name "Waltz" and thought that'd be neat to have the last name Waltz! And thus was born Robyn Waltz. |

My real name is Carissa. Duchess Daisy came about in the following way, for those who are interested: Well, we studied the medival times a couple years ago, and I was a “Duchess” at our “banquet”. And I like the name and flower “daisy”. So when I was choosing an Age of Empires name, that’s what I came up with. (My brother Josiah wanted me to play with him.) Also, the Daisy flower stands for purity, which is something I am striving for. Ever since then, I have liked that name and used it. Now you know! (This was on my introduction, but I thought I'd post it here in case any one hadn't seen it and wondered. |

| Post subject: | Re: Usernames |
My username has carried me through thick and thin all over the Internet. At one time there may even have been a joke that went something like, "That Neil guy irks me." As to it's origins: My name was originally coined by my brother, who was creating a tale called "The Story of Erk". (Yes, we're aware that it wasn't the greatest name in the world.) Neil the Third was king of the land of Erk, and initiated that lands golden age. Eventually, I inherited "Story of Erk" after my brother lost or forgot much of it's ancient lore. (A real shame, we had some truly incredible stuff, but we simply forgot or lost it all.) So, I became Neil of Erk. |

Well, I'm glad you posted on this topic Alaethea! It looks like you revived it! My White Raven username doesn't seem to fit very well amongst all these knights and ladies, but it does have an interesting story behind it. It is only one of many usernames I've had in my 10-12 years on the internet. (others include liber8ed1, liberty, and "somebody else" which was lots of fun When I was in about 4th grade my Dad got me started reading his science fiction and fantasy collection. Somewhere in the hundreds of books and magazines I came across a story about a White Raven. I've not been able to find it since, but can give you the general idea of it. A prince was cursed to turn into a raven at night and roamed his father's kingdom by moonlight. He encounters a beautiful maiden who is kind to him in his bird form. He falls in love with her and begins to search for her by day but cannot find her. After decades of searching he finds her. But she is young and he has grown old. The weirdness, the irony, and the sad nature of the story stuck with me. I also thought it was fitting in light of my Christian life. By nature I was black and sinful, Christ washed me white. By nature I was associated with death and decay, but now I'm clean, though a freak among my fellows. ~Raven |

My username came about while helping Lady Esmeralda choose hers... I was suggesting name and was reading through a list of ancient Egyptian names (which I researched because I am also writing a story set in Egypt)... I came across Irisis and then I just somehow came up with Shanai. I am not sure if I made it up or if I have heard it some where... I am famous for that. I wrote a song once and I was so proud of it, only to find out it was a worship song I hadn't heard in a few years. I was so upset. Anyways, I put the two together and I loved it, so that is how my name came about. I will be using it in my story, too. |

Egyptians are awesome! I recently read a book by G.A Henty; a historical fiction novel. It was about the Rebu and how they became slaves to the Eyptians. I have several other internet aliases, some of which are from my elvish language. But when I came up with the name "Elestar", I wanted something that sounded elvish, but wasn't. At the time, I didn't have a background for the name. Now, however, I know that Elestar was an elf from the ancient histories of my world. I just need to take some time and work out more details about her. At the moment, I've only got the knowledge of who she is, and some pictures from Google that look like her. |

Interesting topic! My name is the result of staring at a blank HW entry screen and trying to think up something interesting. A few months before I was studying Spanish and learned that the word for sky is cielo. I thought it'd be a pretty name if I changed the last letter, and thus I created a canine character named Ciela. I borrowed her name for my HW title, and added Rosa to the end, because I thought it sounded pretty. I changed it to just plain Rose after a while. Thus, Ciela Rose |

| Post subject: | Re: Usernames |
I've gone through a myriad of usernames but my first one and my last are closely connected. While reading a translation of the Lebhor Gabala Erenn/Book of the Invasions of Ireland (the closest thing there is to a collection of Irish mythology), I came across the name Iarbonel the Soothsayer who if you compare with The Second Battle of Moytura, you'll find out is the ancestor of the Tuatha de Danaan, Irish gods who eventually became the first Irish fairies. That's all you actually ever hear about him, his name and lineage. Well, the essence of his name stuck in my mind for some reason I was entranced. I eventually swapped out the pagan "soothsayer" for the biblical "seer" and created Iarbonel the Seer. This was all long before I came onto HW. I was used to other forums with rather bizarre usernames so I threw in a little extra and came up "iarbonelseye010" but that was too hard for people to remember so I just randomly pulled "mr. squishy" out of my head which was causing too much hilarity for our Administrators. Even after I gave up Iarbonel, the essence of the biblical prophets had hooked onto me and wouldn't let go. I took another phrase that hung in my head "witch of Endor" and swapped it with Seer to have "Seer of Endor" but then decided that it might cause issues so I shortened it to Seer. And for the record, I like Age of Empires as well. |

My username is from the title of my story, The Armorbearer, it is also from a prophecy I wrote for my story, and it is the title that my MC receives as the fulfillment of that prophecy. I know that armor bearer is two words, but for my story I wanted to make it a proper noun, so I made it one word to make it different. |

I can't say coming up with my name was very creative - my real surname is "Marais" (like those who've been to my blog would have seen). I translated the French into English (marsh) and added "writer". But it is nice to say - I think so at least - and doesn't quite make me sound like a swamp monster... It also takes away much of the mispronounciantion of the surname that I get almost every day! Ps. One of the greatest Afrikaans writers of all time (okay, okay, I know the language is still very new, but bear with me!) was Eugene Marais... Hmm... wonder how the family tree looks |
