This is for people to explain their usernames. The second half of mine is after a semi-main character in my first book. I liked her name, and I liked her as a character, so I stole it (if you can call it stealing, since I made it up :P ) I chose the second half because as God's child, I'm a princess!

Ah, there's not much explaining to do about my user name. Mainly it was from looking through the directory to our home-school co-op. I noticed someone who spelled the name "Robin" with a "y" and thought that was pretty neat. Then I noticed someone else with a last name "Waltz" and thought that'd be neat to have the last name Waltz! And thus was born Robyn Waltz. ;) No, it's a character in any of my books... but perhaps someday.

My username...oh dear. It has a long family tree.:D Suffice it to say that it's my name on therebelution forum, so I figured I'd use it here.:)

But my real name has nothing to do with my username...AT ALL.:D

My real name is Carissa. Duchess Daisy came about in the following way, for those who are interested: Well, we studied the medival times a couple years ago, and I was a “Duchess” at our “banquet”. And I like the name and flower “daisy”. So when I was choosing an Age of Empires name, that’s what I came up with. (My brother Josiah wanted me to play with him.)

Also, the Daisy flower stands for purity, which is something I am striving for.

Ever since then, I have liked that name and used it. Now you know!

(This was on my introduction, but I thought I'd post it here in case any one hadn't seen it and wondered. :)

I know this is an old thread, but I hope it's OK if I post anyway:

My username (Alaethea) is a variation of the name of one of my characters. It's pronounced the same way, but the character's is spelled Aláthia, but sometimes I spell it Aláthea. I really need to finalize the spelling...

I'm thinking about changing my username to Arias (or Arias Myles... she's one of the few characters I've made who has a last name), since I use Sapphira a lot and it's not really very original (although I'm sure Arias isn't either :P)
What do you guys think?

My username has carried me through thick and thin all over the Internet. At one time there may even have been a joke that went something like, "That Neil guy irks me."

As to it's origins:

My name was originally coined by my brother, who was creating a tale called "The Story of Erk". (Yes, we're aware that it wasn't the greatest name in the world.) Neil the Third was king of the land of Erk, and initiated that lands golden age. Eventually, I inherited "Story of Erk" after my brother lost or forgot much of it's ancient lore. (A real shame, we had some truly incredible stuff, but we simply forgot or lost it all.)

So, I became Neil of Erk.

Well, I'm glad you posted on this topic Alaethea!
It looks like you revived it!

My White Raven username doesn't seem to fit very well amongst all these knights and ladies,
but it does have an interesting story behind it.
It is only one of many usernames I've had in my 10-12 years on the internet.
(others include liber8ed1, liberty, and "somebody else" which was lots of fun ;) )

When I was in about 4th grade my Dad got me started reading his science fiction and fantasy collection.
Somewhere in the hundreds of books and magazines I came across a story about a White Raven.
I've not been able to find it since, but can give you the general idea of it.
A prince was cursed to turn into a raven at night and roamed his father's kingdom by moonlight.
He encounters a beautiful maiden who is kind to him in his bird form.
He falls in love with her and begins to search for her by day but cannot find her.
After decades of searching he finds her.
But she is young and he has grown old.

The weirdness, the irony, and the sad nature of the story stuck with me.
I also thought it was fitting in light of my Christian life.
By nature I was black and sinful, Christ washed me white.
By nature I was associated with death and decay, but now I'm clean,
though a freak among my fellows.
;)

~Raven

These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshippers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.

All the things that have deeply possessed your soul have been but hints of it—tantalising glimpses, promises never quite fulfilled, echoes that died away just as they caught your ear... My username came about while helping Lady Esmeralda choose hers...

I was suggesting name and was reading through a list of ancient Egyptian names (which I researched because I am also writing a story set in Egypt)... I came across Irisis and then I just somehow came up with Shanai. I am not sure if I made it up or if I have heard it some where... I am famous for that. I wrote a song once and I was so proud of it, only to find out it was a worship song I hadn't heard in a few years. I was so upset.

Anyways, I put the two together and I loved it, so that is how my name came about. I will be using it in my story, too.

Egyptians are awesome! I recently read a book by G.A Henty; a historical fiction novel. It was about the Rebu and how they became slaves to the Eyptians. It was my first historical fiction novel I enjoyed as much as I should. I loved how Henty incorporated historical facts into the story.

P.S This is what I am doing for the review "Shang-hai" ;)

As far as I know, I came up with the name Celestria. She's the main character in a book I've started writing called "the Forest Bandit."

I have several other internet aliases, some of which are from my elvish language. But when I came up with the name "Elestar", I wanted something that sounded elvish, but wasn't. At the time, I didn't have a background for the name. Now, however, I know that Elestar was an elf from the ancient histories of my world. I just need to take some time and work out more details about her. At the moment, I've only got the knowledge of who she is, and some pictures from Google that look like her.

Interesting topic! :)

My name is the result of staring at a blank HW entry screen and trying to think up something interesting. A few months before I was studying Spanish and learned that the word for sky is cielo. I thought it'd be a pretty name if I changed the last letter, and thus I created a canine character named Ciela. I borrowed her name for my HW title, and added Rosa to the end, because I thought it sounded pretty. I changed it to just plain Rose after a while. ;)
Thus, Ciela Rose

Keeneye was originally the last name of a character in a novel I was writing. It was the first novel I ever wrote and the name just stuck. I think the name fits me as much as it does the character (even though I have glasses ;) ). I think it has many implications tied to it that are simply...sweet.

This year for school I am reading Lord of the Rings and I thought that because this site is about Fantasy Stories I thought I would use LOTR character. Out of all the names I figured I liked Strider the best so it was randomly chosen :D

My username "Calenmiriel" is Elvish and translates into my name...er a nickname I commonly get as a mispronunciation of my birthname. ^^;

I got Calenmiriel from a list of Elvish names Melody Kondrael emailed me. :D I use it as my username on the three forums I'm on.

I've gone through a myriad of usernames but my first one and my last are closely connected. While reading a translation of the Lebhor Gabala Erenn/Book of the Invasions of Ireland (the closest thing there is to a collection of Irish mythology), I came across the name Iarbonel the Soothsayer who if you compare with The Second Battle of Moytura, you'll find out is the ancestor of the Tuatha de Danaan, Irish gods who eventually became the first Irish fairies. That's all you actually ever hear about him, his name and lineage. Well, the essence of his name stuck in my mind for some reason I was entranced. I eventually swapped out the pagan "soothsayer" for the biblical "seer" and created Iarbonel the Seer. This was all long before I came onto HW. I was used to other forums with rather bizarre usernames so I threw in a little extra and came up "iarbonelseye010" but that was too hard for people to remember so I just randomly pulled "mr. squishy" out of my head which was causing too much hilarity for our Administrators. Even after I gave up Iarbonel, the essence of the biblical prophets had hooked onto me and wouldn't let go. I took another phrase that hung in my head "witch of Endor" and swapped it with Seer to have "Seer of Endor" but then decided that it might cause issues so I shortened it to Seer.
And for the record, I like Age of Empires as well.

Jay and the Marcher Lords have nothing against humor, just for the record. ;)

Say, would that by Age 1, 2, or 3? (Or all, or some?)

Note: Ebed is Hebrew for bondsman, Eleutheros is Greek for unrestrained (not a slave).

Mine came from the main character in my first book, and the main character of my second! :)

Yeah Seer, I was reading a book of Irish fairy tales the other day and came across that, and thought : I wonder if Seer's old name came from this! :)

My username is taken from an elvish name. Translated into English it means Dominic, which is 'bound to the lord'. My real name isn't Dominic but I thought the meaning was cool...thus, eruheran!

Did you translate it yourself, or did you use an internet elvish translator? I'd love to find out how you do that. :)

My Username is the name of one of the MC's from a series that I'm designing. Ordonel is a member of a Spec-Ops group called 'Xor Sector' (Xor means 'Shadow' in Pelnese, one of the languages of my Saga) and is one of their minor leaders. He rises to prominence, goes through alot of cool stuff, and I really liked his character. I have multiple aliases... B. N. Stahr is my pen-name (and blog name), I go by Thogmaster in a couple other places, but my Facebook (and real name) is David W. Hamilton.

Christianity isn't about brow-beating people into your religion. Christianity is about knowing that there's a God, no, rather, a Father up there who cares. A Father who really cares about you and is ready to lift you up when you need it. Christianity is about radiating that love into the darkness that fills the world today. And that's the most powerful witness you could ever give.

My username is from the title of my story, The Armorbearer, it is also from a prophecy I wrote for my story, and it is the title that my MC receives as the fulfillment of that prophecy. I know that armor bearer is two words, but for my story I wanted to make it a proper noun, so I made it one word to make it different.

I just randomly pulled mine out of my head. I ended up making it the name of a villain in one of my stories, which brought much criticism from my brother, eruheran. :( I considered changing it, but thought that would just cause confusion, and anyway, I abandoned the story so I guess it's OK.

Back to A.O.E., who has played the War Chiefs expansion? OK, sorry, off topic.

Mine is my real name. Since everyone else has a made-up name, I thought I'd better explain why I don't. It's not that I don't wish I had a cool fantasy name, I do. However, I would rather be myself at this point in time than someone made up. That's all. : ) I love how creative everyone is with their names. I'm certainly not that good at inventing them!

Sarah,

I would say you could always spell your names backwards, but it would be Haras, and I'm not sure that sounds so good. Reminds me of harass. XD

That is a good idea, Leirimnelac, why hasn't anyone else thought of that? Though, I agree, 'haras' does sound like 'harass',

I can't say coming up with my name was very creative - my real surname is "Marais" (like those who've been to my blog would have seen). I translated the French into English (marsh) and added "writer". But it is nice to say - I think so at least - and doesn't quite make me sound like a swamp monster... It also takes away much of the mispronounciantion of the surname that I get almost every day!

Ps. One of the greatest Afrikaans writers of all time (okay, okay, I know the language is still very new, but bear with me!) was Eugene Marais... Hmm... wonder how the family tree looks ;)

It doesn't make me think of a swamp monster, but it does bring to mind Puddleglum the marshwiggle in the Silver Chair. :D

Hmmm...my user name came from an old name that my friends and I used to play around with.

ROUGHLY, Wenial means "Twilight Maiden" and I think Willow sounds pretty.:D

Calenmiriel backwards reminds me of 'limerick' for some reason.
