Has anyone ever read "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" by Elizabeth George Speare? :book: It's one of my favorite books! It's a historical novel based on the Salem witch trials. The main character, Kit Tyler, is wrongly accused of being a witch. If you've read the book you already know what I'm talking about.

Just wondering is anyone has read it. ^^

I've read it! :D

It was a while ago, but I think I really liked it... I should go find it and read it again. (In all my spare time. ;) )

I never actually went through the book, although I have heard about it. I got the first chapter from some book (like a teaser type thing). I should probably read it though. I studied the Salem witch trials and what actually happened (from a biblical and historical perspective), so it would be interesting to read now.

I read this book and loved it! I actually wrote a paper on it, where Kit was Kit Kittredge and time traveled...

I know this is going to sound morbid, but the Salem witch trials fascinate me! I've always loved reading books based on them. Another great book along the same lines is "Witch Child" by Celia Rees. That one was, if I recall correctly, an actual journal that was found stitched into a square of a quilt.

At any rate, I would suggest "The Witch of Blackbird Pond." ^^

I've read and studied the Salem Witch Trials so much it's pathetic. (anyone heard of the Crucible? READ IT!)

And I actually did a book reveiw of the Witch of Blackbird pond. I'm attaching it. I LOVE this book. I feel it does a better portrayal of Puritans than most do.

Yes! It has been a while since I've read it, but I definitely enjoyed it (and some of the author's other books). :)

Oh boy. . . I think I read this book when I was nine? Eight? Something like that. I absolutely loved this book. Though my sisters thought it was far too dry, I found it beautiful and fairly historically accurate. If you are a history geek like me, you'll notice the subtle mistakes, but overall, it was very well done. I would recommend it.

I agree with everything good that's been said about this book. ^.^ It's not perfect, of course; I know that several people (whom I respect) think that it's rather biased against the Puritans, but judging from what I know of the historical setting I think it was fair in its outlook.

Willow, your review was lovely! You did a splendid job of capturing the book -- thank you for sharing.

I also completely love this novel. There's a reason it won a Newberry. Wonderful book!
