Hey all,
(I was inspired by my post in this thread: here.) Being a somewhat geeky writer in real life, I've possessed several Palm OS PDAs throughout the years...have any of y'all had any sort of PDA at any time? I'd like to pretend I'm not alone but I probably am.

If you have had one, what kind? I've had a Palm T|X and a Centro. Have you ever used it for writing (So this topic can be remotely on-topic)? I have a fold-out keyboard that connects to my Palm that I've used for writing in the past

Nope, I just have a Palm Pre phone (which by the way is awesome!) :D Do you use it for all your writing?

Wow! I am totally jealous! :D (I've wanted a Pre since it came out! :D)

I used to do all or most of my writing on my Palm or on paper, but after I got a laptop I started doing 95% of my writing on it. But I still do a little tiny bit of brainstorming, perhaps, on my phone. :D

(P.S. I might PM you about your Pre...you're very lucky!!)

No problem, I know I am. However, I'm even more blessed because I didn't have to pay for it. The company I and my Dad work for pays for our phones. I was given the option of what I wanted because of the nature of my job. I needed something along the Blackberry line for my work, but I've heard bad stories about Blackberries. Anyway, I'll talk to you about it when you PM/ e-mail me.

How hard is it to type on these things? I've always thought it was cool that you can get Celtx apps (my screenwriting software) for ipads and such things, but I've heard nasty stories about typing on them... If typing wasn't a huge pain, I might consider saving up and buying a mobile device sometime, to be able to write on the go.

They're not too bad. I prefer a virtual keyboard to a physical one, anyhow (at least on cell phones). I type up long emails on my iPod when I need to and it's not a big deal. It takes getting used to, but after a while it's easy. ;)

(You can get full-size Bluetooth keyboards for the newer iDevices. I use one when I type on Dad's iPad and it's wonderful! :D)

My palm phone has a full keyboard at the bottom of the screen and I can type quite fast with it; almost 30 wpm. But it does cramp my hands up after an hour or so :P Which is why for any extended writing I much prefer my laptop.

Evening, I've never had or used a tablet or a larger-sized mobile device. How do those do for typing? Like, would you mind typing for extended periods of time on the iPad? How does the lack of tactile feedback play into that? *is curious about all ways to type* :D

iPads are easier to type on than iPhones/iPods. For some reason, having the volume on and hearing the clickety-click while I type seems to help. :D It seems to make up for the tactile feedback you would get with a regular keyboard. I've never typed for long on the iPad...whenever I need to do any serious writing I get the external keyboard. Though I think I have written a few emails on the iPad...anyways, it's bearable and you get used to it after a while. I know a girl at my homeschool group who takes notes during lectures exclusively on her iPad.

*nods* Interesting. I think I'll stick with my trusty laptop for writing, though an iPad would be nice to have =)
