Ack! I looked at your signature! You have a story called The Price of Freedom? So do I!!! Of course, mine has a dual title; the Price of Freedom or Never Doubt, but still!!! What's yours about?

Captain Lance Juno must face his fear of the afterlife and inner demons amidst the chaos and turmoil of war, all the while not turning into a heartless killer.

It's about World War Three in which a One World Government has been founded by Lucifen Maximum the First. A small group of independent countries have formed an alliance, the Alliance for a Liberated Earth, or ALE.

Post subject:  Re: Non-Fanasty

I guess considering they have the same title it shouldn't be too surprising that the plots are similar...

Twin brothers Ardon and Aberdeen are the joint leaders of a rebellion against the existing tyrannical government. On the brink of surrender, they realize they need reliable inside information and Aberdeen leaves to join the Ruler's forces. The two begin a delicate game of manipulating the battles on both sides, but when his own motives are questioned, can Ardon keep his trust in his brother?

Post subject:  Re: Non-Fanasty

This is a more detailed summary, since I wrote the last one at 5am.

Captain lance Juno was wounded in action during a raid that went sour. Calling a favor, he asks a friend of his to find out why. The reason, the leaders didn't give his strike team enough information. They knew about the minefield. Enraged at the loss of his squad, Lance confronts his superiors. They brush him off as getting soft and assign him to desk jobs. He learns of a new international
commando group being set up for ale and applies for the command position. Despite the officers reservations, his position is decided. They place him on a probation period and if he passes, he gets permanent command. If he fails, back to the desk job he goes with no hope for active duty.

OVERVIEW:

The year is 2029, and the world is at war. Malcom Lucifen I has taken control over large portions of the globe, and he has established a new United Earth government, himself as the Chancellor. Despite the appearance of its democratic government, the UEG is ruthless and rules with an iron grip. The few scattered independent nations have formed an alliance, The Alliance for the Liberation of Earth, or ALE.

Independent Regions:
-Switzerland
-Northern Scotland
-Northern Scandinavia
-Northern Russia
-Northern Canada
-Democratic Republic of Appalachia
-New England States
-Republic of Amazonia
-Himalayan-Kunluni Federation or HKF

ALE is also composed of the many rebel bands that roam the ruled areas. To add to the political mess, two more factions have joined the spotlight, the Knights Templar and the Brotherhood of the Natural order. The Brotherhood is dedicated to subverting the world into it's natural state, simple hunter-gatherer tribes so they can set up a new world order that goes long with their agenda. The Templar have allied themselves with ALE to defend against the Brotherhood. The Templar appear to want to defend knowledge, order, society, and freedom.
The leaders of ALE are John Greene, Armando Stocki, Zachary Damron, Ethan Roberts, Khuli Khan, and Raphael Robichaud. They lead America, Switzerland, Republic of Appalachia, Northern Scotland, HKF, and the French Underground. The Republic of Amazonia is led by Danuelos Sanabria.
Malcom Lucifen is aided in his job by Vinny, James Parson, Vivien Wilcox, and Igor Machten.

The smallest group of soldiers used is the unit, a group of five soldiers. Each unit is composed of a commander, medic, sniper, heavy weaponry expert, and an automatic rifleman. The standard weapon is the M8 assault rifle, for both sides. The Templar have their own. Each clip holds fifty rounds. It is also rumored that the two sides are developing powered exo-armor, whereas the Templar are known to already have it. Laser weaponry is in development.
The Souls of Steel are an elite commando group composed of ALE's finest soldiers. They do missions from demolitions to stirring up resistance in enemy ground.
The UEG's equivalent is the Enforcers. The Enforcer are an elite military/police force used for everything that needs to be done quickly, efficiently, and ruthlessly.
Air combat is normally vertical take-off jets and helicopters. Transports are used for air-drops.

And that's where our stories drift apart. :D Mine is a simple, fantasy, short, spy story, rebellion story, yours is an involved world war III, scifi, war story, rebellion novel. :D Good job with that, it sounds really cool. (I love scifi). I wrote mine in about two weeks, several months ago. It's on my website...

The Price of Freedom

Post subject:  Re: Non-Fanasty

Yours is really good.
My full title is "The Price of Freedom: The First Chapter in the Untold tale of the Souls of Steel, America's finest in World War Three." Quite a mouthful. Then I'll add Aidan Romero in it, an older Aidan, and tell it from different perspectives. Then I'll jump ahead about thirty years to a dystopia where Lance and Aidan are back, only older, but not as the main characters.

Post subject:  Re: Non-Fanasty

Thanks. :D

That's an incredible mouthful. That's as bad as one of mine: Raedon Shelki: The story of the most unusual first contact in the history of the Alliance.

(I want that scifi forum...)

Post subject:  Re: Non-Fanasty

The first two words make yours a little difficult.

Me too. All my stories are tied together in one way, shape, or form. Normally by a shared enemy, either Malxor in fantasy or the Brotherhood of Natural Order in Earth X, which is the nearly identical world the others are in.

Post subject:  Re: Non-Fanasty

The first two words are actually a name; an alien name. But meant to be a pronounceable alien name. :D

None of my stories share anything usually. They all take place in entirely seperate universes, situation, etc. I've not quite figured out how to write two books in the same universe unless they're directly related plot wise. :D

Post subject:  Re: Non-Fanasty

Just have other characters from other books show up, have names be known, just make it like Earth. If you write a book about the Alamo, and then in another book, have a character visit the Alamo or something, readers will know they're in the same universe.

Post subject:  Re: Janin's Non-Fantasy

I split this discussion off into it's own thread since it seemed to be dominating the original thread.

Well, it should really be called: The Price of Freedom, Science Fiction Stories, Writing in the Same Universe, and other Random Discussion.

Now I see what happened, I was a bit lost there.

Post subject:  Re: Janin's Non-Fantasy

Yeah, so was I. He actually should have split it two posts later. The first one, about Lightning Ranger was a response to something Shawn posted, and the next one I think was your first response to Ana's thread. It's after that that we get derailed, with 'The Price of Freedom' conversation.

Post subject:  Re: Janin's Non-Fantasy

Fixed it. If yall had stayed on topic there would have been no need for me to split any posts. ;)

Oh, picky, picky.
But thanks for fixing it. :D

Post subject:  Re: Janin's Non-Fantasy

I might make a thread for general discussions, because we get off topic sometimes. It's natural.

Post subject:  Re: Janin's Non-Fantasy

It is natural, which is why usually most of us let it slide, but this was a bit of a more extreme case :D

Post subject:  Re: Janin's Non-Fantasy

And now look at us. We're so off-topic now about being off-topic I'm not sure what we were talking about. I think we were just... chatting or something.

Post subject:  Re: Janin's Non-Fantasy

Possibly, but now I am befuddled to an extreme degree.

Sorry, but I'm from Nano, getting off-topic is somewhat of an art form on the ywp site.

That is like, so true. That's funny. I never thought of it that way. :D

No! Was it titled something like "The Prince of Yen's Fantasy"? ;)

Now I don't feel quite so bad about Shawn and I being off topic. We are at least semi on topic while being off topic. You guys were just plain off topic.

I think it had something to do with purple Emperor llamas falling in love with grandparents. All that in a steampunk role-play.
