Awesome! I haven't heard of Khan Academy, but I know that Saxon is a whole heap better than UM (Understanding Maths), in my opinion.
Since we homeschool, we don't have a teacher, but Mum bought us a pack of discs with a man named Art Reed, a very good friend of John Saxon, who teaches all the lessons and appendixes out of the Saxon books from... 7/6 to Advance Mathematics, I think. He is really good! Have you heard of him?

Awww! Did you understand the Algebra? I know that when I was doing UM, I couldn't understand fractions, decimals, and percentages, and I ended up dreading and hating math. It makes a difference if you understand it fully.

I have not heard of Mr. Reed, but I will be sure to check him out. Since I teach at a Tutorial Home School Supplement, I have quite a bit of freedom in what supplemental materials I use (i.e. pizza, candy, toys, etc....) when teaching concepts.

I am currently praying about the idea of turning my classes into an adventure of sorts. Having each of the different types of types of concepts be a different land in the world of mathematics. As we would progress through each concept, we would face different different foes and use various weapons to defeat them. Math is an essential part of life, so we should be afraid of the trolls that lurk within its boundaries.

Ah, ok.
