That's fascinating, Aeleknight. My Grandmother actually grew up as the daughter of a plantation owner. I actually have fascinating family stories to tell about it. In fact, I owe my own existence to a black cotton worker who loved my Grandmother as a little girl, and saved her life (long story). However, I don't want to derail the thread, so if you want to pm me about it, we can talk. Sounds like we have a few similarities here. :D

That's interesting! (off accent) It's funny the similarities there can be between accents; for instance, New Zealand has differences to Australia. We say "fish and chips" but they say "fush and chups". :D

I'm telling you guys, I really don't have an accent, unless you are Australian or British, of course. ;)

I should upload an MP3 of me talking or something, just to prove my point. ;)

Aktually, we do na say "aboot." ;) If anything, it's "aboat."

I personally do na have a pyure Canaydian aksent. I assimilate different aksents from different peepul if I'm arount them enuf. So I have Canaydian, possibly a tiyny bit of Northern US, and a bit of Korean. :P

My German grandparents ihmmigrayted to Canada from Polant after Werld War Two, when the Poles expelled the Germans. I didn't inherit much of their aksent, except maybe the softer d's at the ends of some words.

Maybe some people from Cali speak English Proper, but a lot of you speak Valley Girl, which is most certainly NOT English Proper. It's like, not like proper English like at all.

*chuckles * Women born and raised in California find Valley Girl vernacular to be an insult, as very few Californians actually use it. It is mostly a Hollywood creation, and has been a stereotype women from Cali have been strapped with. In fact, it is considered extremely degrading when Californian women are compared with valley girl speak.

My Uncle learned this the hard way when my Daddy brought my mom home to the good old Midwest and he had the gall to say she must not really be from California since she didn't, like totally, like sound like a valley girl *bubble gum pop for effect *. Valley Girl is also a derogatory remark the men use, so most women in California don’t find it appealing, at all.

It is a stereotype. Less than 5% of the population uses it, including teens.

*shakes head * Now I must prove I do not have an "accent", in the traditional sense of an American accent.

*chuckles * I told you all I didn't have a low, soft voice.

Northern? *shakes head * I hear no northern in there. Besides, I've spent very little time, if any, up north.

Maybe I don't know the regions too well, but there is a slight over-annunciation of vowels in there...

Here's me, one who TRULY has no accent. ;) *has a boring voice*

EDIT: Ooops, .wav is not allowed. :/ I'll try and get it into an MP3.

*chuckles * You have a slight accent, Caleb, but not much.

Villi said I sound a lot younger than she expected. *giggles * I'm young, bubbly, and full of life and passion. I don't expect my voice to reflect age for a while. ;)

The over enunciation isn't really northern, though. I think the reason you guys think I sound northern is because I don't have the altered vowels like a southern accent.

However, this whole conversation is funny, because my friends in New York have Eastern accents, and they think my accent is funny. ;) So who has an accent is a matter of opinion, although both Caleb and I wouldn't be categorized as a specific accent other than American, I think. Like, when Americans talk about accents, they refer to a southern accent, or a New York, Texan, or Boston accent. They don't talk about California, Oregon, Nevada, and other various places.

*is not by far a linguistic expert*

I just have an NC/GA/Brazil/UZB accent, with a hint of Ohio and Michigan/Tennessee from my parents. I like to call it a radio or TV voice. ;)

*is ecstatic to hear voices!* :dieshappy:

Airi, you do have an accent to me! Although your voice is a lot higher than I imagined. You actually sound like an American version of my friend. :D She has quite a high voice too.

Elanhil, you also have an accent to me. You sound American. :D You sound much like the American accents we see on TV, which aren't as pronounced as some I've heard.

@Airi: I must agree with Vili, yours sounds young. Which is good, don't get me wrong! XD You don't sound like a kid or anything, just youthful like you said. ^^

@Elanhil: I honestly wasn't sure how high or deep I imagined your voice, but you sound a lot like one of my co-workers on camp staff. :D

@Both: I didn't think either of you had much of an accent on the recording. Nothing that said, "Oh! That's an Eastern accent!" etc. More like a personal accent.

Now I wanna record mine! (We'll see when that happens.) ;) I actually have a deep-ish voice, as far as I know.

*chuckles * I'm not sure why everyone assumes I have a low voice... I think the Lord gave me a perfect voice to match my personality, honestly. :D

Out of curiosity, why is everyone surprised my voice is higher?

@Aussie: Yeah, I knew you’d say I have an accent. ;) American, right?

@Aeleknight: You can convert them somehow; try a program called Audacity.

@Airi: Yep, American. :D I think the reason I thought your voice would be lower is because you have a very authoritative air about you, and I automatically put a lower voice with that kind of attribute.

@ Lady Bushmaid: I have audacity and it requests something like LAME to make those conversions

@ Lady Airianna: I was not surprised at the pitch of your voice, maybe it is just because I am new.

Awesome voices! Now I wan to recorrd mine, as well!

I think the signature of American accents, at least the more western ones, is that we---I---slur the consonants. Like, I say "tuh-MAY-doe" for tomato. Sample: I dropp' thuh tuhmaydoe on thuh grownd and thuh juice spladdered all over me.

* giggles * Recordings of people talking! *listens happily * I wish I had a mic I could use to record my voice, but I don't. :P

Airi, if you've got no accent that must mean I don't either, because you sound like the people around here. :D

Wow, Caleb... your voice is deeper than I always imagined it. O.o You're right on one account; you have no accent, at least as far as I can tell. But your voice definitely isn't boring.

There are lots of states, Manda, that do not have an "accent", so it wouldn't surprise me if you guys didn't either. :D

@ Hilly: *chuckles* I really like the info you put on the file... I'm with Airianna though, you have a light accent. :D

Yes. She edited her post on this page to include her clip. I like the mock accent she did for the first few seconds.
