It's actually not too bad, unless you trip on a rock or step in a thorn bush.

I go around barefoot a lot, and it's really not too bad. My Mom stepped on a stray thorn from a thorn tree once and drove it all the way through her second toe (OW!).

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...

you can sit for several hours just thinking about your stories.

you plan to have a medieval wedding (this is mostly for girls though.;))

you drool over sword websites, and faerie costumes

you dream about death speeches, and radioactive icebergs

In my humble opinion, none of those are particularly for girls... though I don't think about radioactive icebergs.

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when:

You have drawn a map before you're twenty pages into your story.

You get inspiration from almost anything; something your sibling says, a video game, something you see in a grocery store, etc.

You've finished only one story, if even, started about ten, and have hundreds of ideas for more.

You've made battlefields for your story on a video game where you can create your own battles (mostly for guys).

Moderator's Note: fixed minor punctuation and spacing errors.

Don't know if this has already been said, but posting it anyway, since it's the only thing I have...

...when you or someone else misspells or mistypes a word and you say (or at least think) "That looks like a name! Maybe I could use it in my story!"

(For example, I got anwya when trying to write anyway. Doesn't it look like a name to you??)

...you talk about how something in a movie or video game isn't at all realistic, and don't even realize for a few minutes that fantasy isn't realistic anyway

Completely guilty.... I frequently talk about fantasy stuff as if it is real and makes sense just as real stuff does. Which it does make plenty of sense to me, but everyone else thinks I'm a nut :P

You accidentally call someone your character's name. (Yes, it's really happened to me)

~When someone yells one of your character's names and you whirl around, shouting, "What?! Where??"

This actually happened to me at a family gathering for Thanksgiving, I think. I have a cousin named Aaron. Funny, he looks and sounds nothing like the 'real' Aaron. :)

Sorry if I may post things that have already been posted, I didn't go through the entire thread, so we'll give it a shot, eh?

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...

1.) You sit at the dinner table watching a new book scene play in front of your face and your mom worriedly asks, "You okay, honey?"

2.) You sit down in your room putting different sounds and letters together to make up the perfect name for the character you made up.

3.) When you research the speech patterns of the time period you're working with and suddenly you find Jane Austen's works are more complicated than assumed.

4.) When you hear a song and you can imagine a book scene that has nothing to do with the book you're writing right now.

5.) When the guys in your books start sounding better to you than the ones you've met in real life.

6.) When medieval documentaries suddenly seem to be the most interesting thing you've seen in a while.

7.) When music effects the way you write.

8.) When you're writing and suddenly you pause, staring off into space, watching the story unfold before your eyes yet it never gets down on paper until the next day... or never!

9.) When your "big dream" before you die is to publish at least one of your stories.

10.) When your mom gets on you for having your writing materials everywhere in the house.

Wow, alot of these have happened to me, I must be a crazy fantasy writer :D

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...

1.) You ask your friend if they have seen a specific movie, explain what it's about, then realize it's the book you were just reading.

2.) When you spend more time writing/reading than watching TV.

3.) When you go to a zoo and imagine warping the creature in front of you into a new breed for your book.

4.) When people ask "What is your favorite movie?" and all you can think of is a book.

Well, I guess we share the same mind (twin thing) so I agree 100% that the things Lady Terra said are things that happen to me... I am going to think of some now... If I used someone elses, I am sorry (I only looked at a few posts)

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...

1) You walk into a hotel/building and you pick out all the furnishings or architectural designs you think would look great in your book... :)

2) You tell someone (who isn't into writing) about your book and go through all the details, then they respond "And what movie is this?" because they can't imagine you making up all this stuff for a story.

3) The guys in your book are better than the ones you actually know...

4) You watch TV an listen to the names of the people on TV to see if you want to use them or alter them for your book.

5) You listen to music and imagine the scenes of your book and match them to the music.

6) You walk into a forest and in your mind alter a few plants and then say the forest is from your book.

7) One of your friends parents come up to your parents and you over hear tham saying, "I wish my kids would do something creative for once... like you're kids."

8) Calling your friends the name of a character that you created when they act the way you think your character does...

9) Thinking the TV isn't as entertaining as writing. :)

10) Imagining scenes of your story unfold before you when you have nothing else to do...

11) You are in public and you are thinking of a part of your story you are stuck on, then get an idea that fixes your problem and shout "I have a perfect idea for that part now" and not realizing you said it out loud.

12) When your parents say "Stop reading and ____ (insert what else they want you to do)" :)

13) Those days when you want to write instead of having friends over, because you just got the perfect part you NEED to write, right then and there.

14) Adults you just meet looked surprised when they hear you actually write more paragraphs for your stories than text messages. (Atleast in my case)

15) When you are drawing maps, people, animals, buildings and plants for your stories and show them to your friends... then they look at you like you are nuts.

You know ur a crazy fantasy writer WHEN...

- You are told to stop reading and do your schoolwork.

- You design a restaurant themed with your book characters.

- You use words that don't exist in your stories. (e.g. "elucinitical" "Fragony" "scuminglup")

- You are NEVER, EVER bored. Because you can just go live in a fantasy world in your head.

- You like nightmares because they provide you with inspiration for stories

- You have talked for two hours or longer about a single book scene.

Wow! It surprises me sometimes how much everyone here is alike! I never imagined other people liked to make "music videos" with book scenes in their head. Or even enjoy nightmares! :D

Well, here's some more true life experiences I thought I'd add.

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...

1) - you have a conversation with your characters and sudden realize from the funny looks that you said it out loud... in public.

2) - you think other people are crazy for thinking you're crazy.

3) - you're reading and get so caught up in the book that you're about ready to cry for the characters and would like to send an email to the author telling her how wrong it was to put the main character through all that! Then you come to a blank page and get depressed because you have to write more before you can keep reading.

4) - you get into an argument with your friends and parents over whether your characters are real or not.

5) - you wake up and your first thought is "That dream would make a good book... if only I could remember what it was about."

6) - you quote your characters frequently in conversations with friends or family.

Wow, your post made me really laugh. :D

Happens to me all the time and when my mom tells other parents they say that they wish their kids would pick up a book for anything.

It's kind of creepy how many of these things apply to me... :)

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...

- Your wall is covered with maps that have sparked story ideas in your head.
- You have playlists in iTunes for each of your book chapters, depending on the tempo of the chapter.
- You randomly will dash off and scribble a few hurried lines.
- You have an entire folder on your computer devoted to writing
- You download eight different translation dictionaries so that you can have character names that actually mean something in other cultures
- You have two elvish name translators bookmarked
- You get mad at someone when they spell your character's name wrong.
- You could explain geography of a made up country for hours only to find out that your listener doesn't care about REAL geography
- Your librarian removes the two books a week limit only for you and allows you to check out up to six a week (this happened to me in Elementary school)
- You browse cookbooks for weird things for your character to eat.
- Sometimes at night you act out the parts of your characters and then your brother asks you what you're doing.
- You hit yourself with a chair to see what your character would have felt and then go around with a bump on your head for three days (also true!)
- You know how to spell Elvish names
- You ENJOY spelling Elvish names
- You always hate math.
- You have no qualms at spending on entire day fractalling your character
- You stay up till midnight writing down story ideas
- You sit up in a bunkbed with a story idea and hit your head really hard! (true, again)
- You get cramps in your hands from typing
- You are told to get off your computer by your parents and they don't change their minds even when you tell them that you're writing, and not playing a video game
- You pretend that your LEGO minifigures are your characters and act out scenes from your books
- People look at you funny when you say that your character asked for another chapter in the book.

It's so weird how I've done most of the things people have mentioned beforehand...

You're on a forum with a thread just to insult yourself, and you read ALL of it.

actually lots of the stuff was kind-of applicable, especially the Age of Empires Battle plans. ;)

I've done that with LEGO mini-figs and my friends look at me strange if I say anything about my charries wanting something, so much that I just don't mention it any more. :D

Yes...my charries can be quite demanding but I try to keep them quiet when outsiders are around.

Oh, man, this is a great forum! How did it take me so long to find it? :D Although I'm jealous... I wish I was as crazy as some of you guys.

Let's see...

- you fully intend to do NaNoWriMo this November, despite your family's insistence that you'll be too busy with college.

- you spend half of your day off finishing "Taggerung" (that was last week, "Mossflower" is today's. :D)

- you spend the other half of said day off on Holy Worlds!

...You're recovering from the flu, are bored and can't obtain access to your story on the computer. Therefore, you start re-enactinga battle-scene from your books with pen caps and a Nerf dart gun.

...You start muttering strange things to yourself in an alien language when somebody who's made you upset is still around.

...You take a wooden dowel, pretend it's a special weapon of your design, and have a mortal combat with a haybale.

...You're in your bedroom at night, your cat jumps on your bed (waking you up), and you think you're being attacked by a Wraith or Spectre of some sort that's mad at you because you terminated it during your writing that day.

Christianity isn't about brow-beating people into your religion. Christianity is about knowing that there's a God, no, rather, a Father up there who cares. A Father who really cares about you and is ready to lift you up when you need it. Christianity is about radiating that love into the darkness that fills the world today. And that's the most powerful witness you could ever give.

...When you listen to dramatic/depressing music and suddenly you're inspired to whack off one of your characters in a life changing death...(I don't do this often. It's only happened once!) XD

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. I only read this last page, but I was laughing so hard because I know exactly what you are all (all are?) talking about. This is the best forum ever. Why did it take me so long to find it?!

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...

You can talk to a friend for hours about a world that doesn't exist and that only the two of you understand/know about.

You scavenge all sorts of languages for cool names

You entertain yourself by pretending you are one of your characters (or even a character that hasn't been created yet) who talks with some sort of British accent. :D lol.

You try to explain to someone something cool that you just discovered about the story you're writing, and you just get a blank look and a vague "Mmhmm."

Hmm-hmm… May I just say… I feel right at home!!

Here's some more

 You go to library book sales looking for "old" books (and that doesn't mean from the nineties)
 The person at the library book sale know you and keep all fantasy books/books pertaining to knights/weapons/ancient cultures or history/art and mythology for you to peruse first…
 You are known as the "fantasy lady" at the library
 You know how much <insert type of> armour weighs
 You know how armour is made
 You are a girl but have (proper) books about weapons.
 You actually know which type of sword was used when and where – and why that is just the weapon for your character… (and you're a girl)
 You save a text on your phone with a new plot idea because it's the middle of the night and you don't want to waste time by switching on the lights first
 You buy dictionaries just because the language looks/sounds cool
 You keep on making up languages, no matter how hard you try not to
 You use your lunchtimes at work to write or do editing

Ps. Glad to see I'm not the only one with maps of fictional places on my wall and heaps of books all over the place!

Put whatever you're quoting between

. Or hit the "Quote" button on the post you're quoting, and delete all the stuff between the two sets of brackets you don't want to quote. :)

Fellows All,

You might just probably and most definitely (perhaps) be something similar to a totally freakish fantasy writer if...

- You like riddles, and you know how a raven is like a writing desk (scroll to bottom for answer!)
- You have two-way conversations with yourself.
- You wish kilts were back in style.
- You think a shovel or a broom would make an excellent weapon.
- When working in the garden, you imagine chopping your enemies to pieces.
- When eating meat, you imagine it was something you slayed.
- You look out the window, and when you look back at your computer there's a full paragraph.
- You visit the mall, buy nothing, but have at least three new characters added to your story.
- You think of an awesome villain, but turn him into a good-guy because he's just too cool.
- You cry when you think about the touching scene where the protagonist dies.
- You think, draw, and write about your villains three times as much as the good guys.
- You often charge your siblings brandishing a stick and shouting a war-cry. They watch complacently as you make invisible wounds in their flesh, complete with sound effects.
- You walk on floor-tiles as if they were little islands surrounded by lava.
- You wish there was such thing as water-proof paper so you could write in the shower.
- People ask you why you don't carry a phone. You ask why they don't carry a notepad.
- You wish Carrier-Pigeons were still around.
- You think William Wallace could beat any Jedi.
- You think Eragon is a rip-off of Bruce Coville's, "Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher," and the "Star Wars" franchise.
- You wish you had a mithril shirt, or a full suit of armor. If not to wear, at least to prop on your bedroom wall.
- You pose action figures in battle-scenes from your book.
- You realize it takes hours to make a decent stew, and so is not a good traveling meal.
- You spend an exuberate amount of time not participating, but observing.
- Anytime you're in the park and you see a rabbit, you wish you had a bow-and-arrow with you at that moment.
- Your imagination is so linked with your intellect it's dizzying.
- You pick up a rock from a stream because it gives you an idea of something, then two days later wonder why there's a rock on your desk.
- You hate shoes, and fail to see their purpose.
- You are never without a pocket-knife.
- You've read an entire dictionary.
- People think you're talking to yourself, but you know you're talking to your main character.
- Your ideas come to you while you're on the trampoline.
- You read other fantasy novels, and think of how you can implement their storylines into your own without ripping them off.
- You watch a movie and think of how much better you could have made it.
- You know it's all fake....unless you believe.
- You've wrapped your feet in cloth and string.
- Medieval clothing styles constantly look less and less strange.
- You don't wear a watch - you know the time by the sun.
- You wish you knew the star constellations.
- Your computer password is also the name of your character or world.
- You have a human skeleton model in your room.
- You learn where every vital organ is so you know the best way to kill someone.
- Your bedroom is looking constantly more like your world.
- You walk around your house, hooded in a blanket, pretending to be your character in disguise.
- You wish a burglar would come into your house at night so you could beat him up with your mystical fighting style and the weapons hidden discretely throughout your house.
- You've slept under the stars at least once.
- You wish you had multiple lives so you could try that crazy idea...
- You play hide-in-seek in your house, by yourself.
- You splash so much when you go to the pool because you're fighting off sea-monsters.
- You play tug-of-war with trees...and win.
- You've knighted somebody.
- You've memorized every line from "Monty Python."
- You think Harry Potter is an evil wizard but Gandalf is not.
- When you go to a fireworks show, you think of Gandalf.
- You think C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien invented the genre.
- You stare at the rain and ideas grow.
- You get three ideas before you finish your cereal.
- You wonder what boar tastes like.
- You wish an evil lord would take over the world just so you could take him down.
- You consider riding any animals that can fly.
- You wish you had a pet wolf or a pet lion.
- You throw away the manual so you can figure out how to build it yourself.
- You like poetry, though you've never read it.
