• you use the word "reigns" instead of "rocks".

• you love hearing the crinkling of a page when it's covered in words.

• you answer to your pen name.

• you look around wildly whenever you hear someone say anything that sounds like one of your characters' names.

• you think it would be cool to own a suit of armor.

• you tell people not to state the obvious when they say you're crazy.

• it makes your day to hear someone say you are strange.

• you want to teach your horse direct reining (one-handed reining) so that you can carry a sword in your free hand when you ride.

• you also think it would be cool to teach your horse to be steered only by your legs, so you could shoot a bow while you ride.

• you wish you had enough skill to be able to shoot a bow while riding.

• you insist on calling your friends the name of the character that is based off of them.

• you name all of your pets after animals from your story or fantastical creatures.

• you like the sound of a clicking keyboard and/or a scratching pen.

• you smush yourself in the corner of the shower and run icy water down your
back to get an idea for what it feels like to be tortured in a little cell.

• you rehearse your prison scenes in the shower.

• you occasionally lock yourself in the shower in the dark to get an idea for what it feels like to be in solitary confinement.

ROFL! SO SOMEONE ELSE DOES THE SHOWER THING?!?!?!? LOL! You have no idea how happy I am to hear that I'm not alone. ;)

Going with that idea...

you've smacked yourself in an effort to get "the white imprint of a hand on your cheek" :D (It's never worked. I must not be trying hard enough. ;) )

I'm beginning to wonder if you guys really do all of this... :? :D

The hand imprint works alot better if you have someone else do it. Ask a sibling, they've probably wanted to smack you hard, just once, for years!

...You act out conversations between your characters aloud.

I think I freaked out a coworker the other day when I blurted out "The Walven have the stench of Jandrous in their nostrils now... Let them go forth and taste the blood of our enemies!"

 oops!

Exactly lol, but imagine my above post in this scenario... I work in the butcher block at a grocery store and had a rather large knife in my hand at the time.

You know you're a crazy fantasy writer when...

You start referring to yourself as "We" and "Our" and "us"

You have tried to construct crop circles in your front yard.

You have ever required that someone address you as "Conqueror" or any other version of that.

Oh, yes! =D

-- When you take a drink from a particularly fantasy-looking cup you fake a poisoning scene, just for fun. Mother comes in at the 'on your knees dying' part, much to your chagrin.

-- You plan out dialog in your head while you're falling asleep, and realize you've been lying in bed awake for three hours. (Of course, after which time you start stressing about staying awake and not getting enough sleep and miss another three hours =D)

Hmm... I've never missed school because of writing. Another one of the many downfalls of being homeschooled. I mean, come on! Whatever happened to personal me (and ARC) off days?

Well, here's another one I just realized today:

- when you think one of the coolest things is to walk in an old graveyard looking at the names and imagining what their life was like. (Good character names and story ideas too!) :D

You had me laughing out loud when I read these. My younger brother asked me, "what" and I read it to him. He thinks I'm crazy. (This the first time someone has been down here when I was laughing at the computer.)

Hmm? Me? Oh yes, he is an innocent little third grader.

He has actually asked to join Holy Worlds before...He has his own world called Kazool or something like that of which he is the president. It has an amazingly complete history and he recently tried to start a book about it, but he gave that up.

I am literally laughing out loud at some of these! I did the solitary confinement thing, except in the trunk of our car. (Bad, REALLY bad idea. I did it in a hatchback. Don't ever do it in an enclosed trunk. NEVER.)

~you love working with beets because afterwards it looks like you've slaughtered someone.
~you have peeled strips off said beets and stuck them on your face. (Has happened. I have pictures.)
~you have actually walked around a crowd following one person and trying to get a decent picture of them without them knowing.
~any large stick in your yard is instantly converted to dagger, sword, or spear, depending on the size.
~you hide behind various potted plants and pretend you are in a jungle. This also happens in the spring at stores with large displays of potted trees. Also likely to happen behind clothing racks in large department stores.
~candles adorn whatever free space you can get, and books cover the rest of it.
~you have looked up the address of your favorite author in the White Pages and seriously considered calling him or her. (True. My mom and I looked up Patricia McKillip this afternoon. :D )

I'm discovering more all the time. :) I just need to write down what I normally do every day...

Maybe this is just crazy, but:

...You skip youth group so you can re-enact the bloodiest war in history and eat pizza and watch the two towers.
...You spend one hour in front of the mirror trying to find 'fantasy hairstyles' (never done that, but it's a good idea now that I think about it.)
...You go outside without a coat (for about 15 minutes) so you can identify with what your character is going through.
...You ask your friend if he is doing NaNo, and he says he doesn't have enough time, but he gets 7 hours of sleep so he must have enough time, and then you are confused.

I don't know how this would work if it's REALLY cold, but I've been outside in the winter in a sleeveless shirt... if you expect it to be cold, it doesn't seem as cold. Mentally try to find the cold air comfortable and refreshing, and pretend the cold can't sink into your body.
Come to think of it, you'd probably only come up with that sort of answer if you were crazy...

I have found it's easier to run faster and longer in the cold than when it's really warm outside.

Actually, I know what you mean exactly. Especially when we rendezvous (re-enact the 1800's-1840's). All we have is the fire to keep warm and when we're demonstrating there is no fire! After a week you start thinking that 30 degree weather isn't that bad. Not that I enjoy the cold, but it's not such a startling difference of heat from the inside of our canvas tent to the outside world. (Of course, we do have a propane heater for warmth at night.) ;) I must say, it is pretty miserable when it's 30 degrees and raining out. Brrr! Then it really gets in your bones!

Same here! :D I do that a lot.

Haha, it wasn't even below freezing here. XD Some northerners might have even said it was warm. I actually wasn't thinking about it until my dad asked me why I didn't have a coat on, and right then and there I changed my reason. :D

When you:

- Narrate your life and emotions in your mind
- Spend most of your time on this forum

...you scan over this entire list.

...you find the list only mildly frightening and not extremely disturbing.

...you realize that you've done most of the things on this list, except for some of the really bizarre ones.

...you then post something on the list.

~you pull knives out of the knifeblock repeatedly, just to hear that cool sound ... again.
~you have literally tied and gagged yourself on your bedroom floor and pretended to be unconscious.
~your sister comes in on said scene and you explain all the history behind it to her -- through the gag, just to get a feel for it.
~you listen to epic music in the middle of the night.

-You write in half fear of your sister because she wants to know what happens next
-You decide to go pull knives out of the knife block
-The best way to write a scene is to act it out
-You second Jonathan's comments

--You pretend knives (bread knives, steak knives, butter knives, etc) are swords and freak your mother out because you constantly challenge other members of your household to duels with them. (particularly the bread knife, 'cause it's long. :D Yes I have done this. Problem is, we've only got one bread knife... :P)

-- You scrap knives together to hear that nice shinging sound. :D

-- You convince your brother to pretend to be dead so you know what it looks like.

-- You sword fight when it's below zero to see what it's like (by the way, it's very very cold! At least, when only wearing a cloak. With a winter coat it's not too bad, but you can't move fast enough to fight well).

Only a cloak, Amanda? That would be rather cold. I hope you don't live in the city.

JK. :D I seem to have turned the conversation to knives...

I have always wanted to challenge Walmart customers to duels using tubes of gift wrap. I always have.

...you repeatedly hold your dagger whilst writing and pull it in and out of it's sheath.

Gift wrap wars. Anyone heard of 'random acts of culture' or 'Improv Everywhere'? A group of people could go into wall-mart and start a gift wrap huge sword fight.

- You enjoy the feeling of wearing a long skirt or dress that blows in the wind and having your hair down.

- You try to grow your hair to your knees.

I don't remember if I've posted this one...

...when putting away the dishes, you pull out one of the larger knives, and turn to your siblings who are sitting at the table. You tilt your head to the side and try to look slightly crazy while carefully running your finger up the blade of the knife. Your mother then tells you to put the knife away before you hurt yourself :P

...when you type "your mother" without realizing it even though she doesn't like being called mother, because you're used to using it when you write.

Improv Everywhere -- aren't those the people who did the Star Wars: Episode IV reenactment on a subway in NY? I saw a video of that... that was awesome... it has inspired me to try to do something like that. :D (in which, my brother and one other duelist will reenact Anakin vs. Obi-wan in a mall... unfortunately we dont' have costumes or stunt lightsabers yet...but someday!)

Yes, I can fully relate with that one. I don't wear long skirts or dresses except when I'm rendezvousing. Here's what I've done with this:

1.) You secretly feel epic with the wind blowing against your skirt and loose hair while standing on a hill over looking a lake.

Elisanna wrote:

I'm getting there. ^^ Okay, It's only about bellybutton length, but still! XD Although, I think I'll have a problem if I start sitting on my hair. Tailbone is a long as I'll allow it, I think. ;D

I feel epic just standing on a hill overlooking over a lake with the wind blowing, regardless. :D

-Outside in the rainy (or not) fall weather is the best place to make up adventures.

I've done that several times. I stopped though, cause it really started freaking my eight year old sister out.
